Re:England Cricket Tour Canceled Reply to this message
Funnily enough Anderson's form v India hasn't been bad
Off cricinfo;
James Anderson, England's second-highest wicket-taker this year, has already made a mark in India, capturing six wickets at 13.16 in one Test. Anderson has particularly troubled Tendulkar, dismissing him on four occasions at an average of 19.50, and Dravid, who has fallen to him three times, averaging 17.33. Dravid is out of form, a fact Anderson may well look to exploit.

Re:England Cricket Tour Canceled Reply to this message
1. they won't

2. Broad will be back in for the second test and will replace either Harmisson or Anderson. My guess is that it will be Anderson, unless he takes a five-for.

Re:England Cricket Tour Canceled Reply to this message
Rather begs the question though Sven ; Would Broad or Anderson have been left out, had the former been fit,in favour of a 3 plus 2 line up.?
We'll have to see when the second Tests comes up.
Worst case scenario is if England lose two nil. Oh, hang on didn't another team lose to India by that margin recently ? :}

As opposed to Rashid, you mean? I think it was a "flip-a-coin" case between the two. I'm rather surprised that Owais Shah has missed out again. Same with Bopara.

In Strauss we trust..? Only on a really good day.

Kip, you're not going to like this.
Graham Swann is in the starting eleven.

Re:England Cricket Tour Canceled Reply to this message
The talk here about neutral venues prompted me to think of this place which is just a couple of miles away from me.

http://www.wightfarmholidays.co.uk/islandinfo/bram bles.aspx
Del space between m and b of brambles.
What could be more neutral than a sandbank that only exposes on spring tides, and is situated halfway between Southampton and the Isle of Wight ?
And , on her last voyage into Southampton, a month or so ago, the QE2 ran aground on it, requiring four tugs to pull her off, thankfully on a rising tide.
Oh the crazee Poms.

Re:England Cricket Tour Canceled Reply to this message
I'd tend to agree Kip. Although I consider Rashid needs another season or so before he gets in, to select Swann as the potential second spinner in a 3+2 bowling atack , over him makes little sense

Re:England Cricket Tour Canceled Reply to this message
I think it's great news that England are going ahead with the Tests vs. India and I take back my comment from yesterday about the English board being run by a bunch of pansies.

Be great though if they have a Plan B such as an alternative site - possibly a neutral country - if there is a remote chance of another disruption.

Yeah, I can see that already...

Cop: Cuppa tea?
Scoundrel: Yes please.
Cop: Alright then, why did you do it?
Scoundrel: I want a lawyer. I know my rights.
Cop: Damn, you're a tough nut to crack, aren't you?

Re:England Cricket Tour Canceled Reply to this message
good points chucker but in cases like this sometimes it is better to be overtly cautious. as for deterring further possible attacks, i would recommend that they release video footage of their "interrogations" of the surviving gunman from the original attack :)

Re:England Cricket Tour Canceled Reply to this message
It is a difficult decision, and no matter which way the touring team decides, they will be open to derision
If the English cricket team tours, it means that a huge number of security officers ( and probably elite SAS types) are diverted to protect the cricketers, whereas they would otherwise by used for general work protecting the community and anti-terrorism work
If the team doesnt tour, it sends a message that terrorism affects the daily routine in India, people have been affected indirectly, and reinforces the desire for others to act

Re:England Cricket Tour Canceled Reply to this message
read a news flash article earlier that claimed that six gunmen have been shot dead at the mumbai airport. makes you wonder if this isn't the start of a series of attacks on india, hopefully not.

however i think the best idea would be to move india's home games elsewhere for the moment. lets face it most of their money is made out of tv rights (i've played cricket infront of bigger crowds than was at the last test v Oz) so all that really needs to be done is to make sure that the BCCI doesn't lose out monetarily by maintaining their tv money rights.

and -heaven forbid this, but if in the event of a terrorist strike or disruption, has the two Cricket boards come up with any alternative plans - possibly in another country- where they can complete the series?
