Before the toss at the Gabba test where Nasser WhoSucks won the toss and sent the Aussies in, the barmy army was in full voice singing "Five nil. Five nil. Five nil"
The PA announced England had won the toss, and sent Australia into bat. There was a collective groan, thirty seconds silence until the barmy army started singing " Four-one. Four-one . Four-one" |

The bowlers also prefer to bowl on the 2nd day when the pitch has harden up & has more pace in it.
Ricky said he wanted to bowl if he won the toss but they have ended up batting & just need to string together a few partnerships. If they can get to 250 then it looks to be a good score and a little less pressure on the bowlers. |

Just shows how much of a goose Nasser Hussain was.
The best thing a touring side could do in Brisbane is bat first and get some runs on the board.
The opposite has happened in the past and it has set the trend for the next few tests. This test is going to go the same way. |

I suppose the major difference is that Nasser did it on a belter of a pitch, thinking he had an imposing bowling attack and could give England a lot of heart by giving them the chance of ripping through the Aussies early and setting the pace of the series.
As it turned out, the attack was nowhere near as good as the build up suggested (not helped by Jones' knee injury).
Vettori saw the wicket and knew early scalps were a given. Unfortuantely for him, this session and most of the next will be better for batting. The Gabba trend says wickets fall in the first 2 hours, not many in the next 3, more wickets in the last hour.
I fear the Kiwis may struggle to keep the pressure up and the Aussies may get away from them. If NZ batted, I'd suggest the wickets would've come quicker and they'd be too deep in the batting order to make the most of this second session. |

| If you look over the past series the side batting first has prevailed. And a few toursits have won the toss (NasserHussain in particular), bowled and blew it. Regardless of how bad the pitch looked NZ should have batted and attempt to post some decent runs. Australia would have batted. Well, they are batting anyway and may look shaky at present but they'll push through and get the runs. Gabba always offers promise for bowlers on first day but always evens out very quickly. |

| The Aussies will send em straigt in, the only chance the kay ones have, and a slight chance at that is to bowil first and take 3 or 4 in the first session. |

Are you going to ask this same question EVERY test bellboy?
The Aussies don't win the toss, so it will be up to the Kiwis to decide what to do! :) |

I know everyone is saying green top and should have a bowl. But call me old fashion, I think if Punter wins the toss, I really think this Aussie side should bat.
Good to see Roy back in the side.
