| If what wp is insinuating is that the mints were not used in 2005, I have not seen much news on this so I'm sure we'd all appreciate if there was a proper source of information proving this one way or the other. I sure will not be adding to the book sales to find out. |

PLEASE READ S L O W L Y AND C A R E F U L L Y
The former England opener was part of the team that won the ""2005 Ashes"" series against Australia when reverse swing was key to their success.
Cricket laws forbid the use of "any artificial substance", specifically to be applied to the surface of the ball.
"According to the laws this is illegal - but we won't outlaw sucking sweets," an ICC spokesman told BBC Sport.
The Somerset man's international career is now over because of stress-related problems, but he was the man England nominated to look after the ball, not only in ""2005"", but also in the home series against Australia four years earlier.
So how did the Aussie media get it wrong??????? |

| Here's the funniest part of this story. The Australian media have got the story totally wrong. Trescothick was talking entirely about the 2001 Ashes series. |

who cares why he wears it. Possibly the same reason 10's of thousands of fans do it at a game and the fact that since he was a kid hes had it thrown at him from all quarters about sun protection, esp in Qld. Bichel was another that wore it, Geoff Dymock..... the list goes on in Oz, I dunno why or really care.
Arent the implications about wearing zinc cream more than a tad obvious to ALL-including the umps, ICC, match referees and opposition. I mean its hardly ever gonna be a subversive tactic now is it? Im not saying that there arent and wouldnt be benefits to a bit of zinc finding its way on to the ball but the reasoning behind it isnt based with same intentions.
Whatever the mint was it cant be much diffrent to the old P.K though now can it and weve been chewing on that out in the middle for decades. Let it go through to the keeper i say.
Having said that, a mint is hardly a bottle top is it?!
Why shoot a Pom when theres Pakis out there that should be more firmly in peoples sights. |

How can it be cheating?
If it was done in 1984,yet outlawed in 1987!
After 1987 it would be cheating ?
So when they outlaw MINTS in cricket! Then it will be cheating! |

Perhaps, the most famous example of "BTW, I Cheated" would be the US cycling team that swept all before them at the 1984 LA Olympics. Despite the Eastern European boycott, most expected the other European powers and the Aussies to challenge
the US team dominated, and it was put down to the new technology of the rear disc wheel employed by the US team.
Two years after the Olympics, the US cycling team doctor published a paper in a reputable sports journal on how blood doping ie donating blood, storing it and transfusing it into the same athletes in the days before the event, had caused massive improvements in times and performances.
Despite a massive uproar, the US cyclists were allowed to keep their medals
The practice was outlawed in 1987.
But perhaps the most remarkable feat was the Aussie mens pursuit team won gold beating the Americans who were blood doped and using superior technology!! |

Luv_goat, I'm not selling him down the river and call him a nutter, I'm merely saying that this is pretty much the only explanation that I have for this happening.
When has anyone ever come out and said "oh, btw, I cheated" without having any sort of evidence laid against them before? No one in their right mind anyways. Can you come up with ONE example?
If you can't come up with one example, then with what explanation are we left then? Yeah, there is the obvious possibility that his publisher pushed him to include something spicy in order top help book-sales, but to use soething like that is extremely stupid, if not mad in the first place. Which still leaves me to think that this chapter is not yet closed. |

Re:England cheated to win ashes! (PREVIEW)
I think that Tresco needs to be asked what motivated him for writing what he did. But then, he HAS been diganosed with mental illenesses, so...
------------------------- ------------------------- ----------
1. What motivated him? An appreciation for truth and honesty perhaps? His conscience could no longer allow him to remain silent?
2. So he's only a poor man who we should leave alone WHEN it suits but if he writes something which doesn't suit then you'll sell him down the river and call him a nutter?
Why am I not at all surprised. |

This MINTGATE episode will leave a sour taste in poms mouths.
Even the players will be hiding their tarnished M.B.E's from prying eye's who might ask them the embarrassing question of how and why they received it. |

Someone asked what would we say if it was revealled Lee used Zinc on the ball last ashes - well in Australia he would be hung, drawn and quartered!
Much like every decent Aussie still shudders when the names Greg and Trevor Chappell are mentioned.
I can't understand any fan trying to justify their side cheating!
The Ashes were 3 years ago, and in the past - true, it can't be changed. But I would have expected most of England to be up in arms about this as much as, if not more than, the Aussie fans.
A system built up over a period of years so that the side can manipulate the ball against the laws of the game is a massive kick in the guts for cricket.
If it was Austalia I'd be calling for a few heads. |

Ok so I'm English and maybe a bit biased but don't you think maybe it was Glen McGrath stepping on a ball in the warm up and putting himself out of the series that won us the ashes.
It's a bit sad that after all this time you can't take losing the odd series here or there. What with "Dad's Army" playing unfair boring rugby, Team GB (Great Britain) rellying on other British athletes to come fourth in Beijing and sticky saliva rather than a strangely good English summer and you losing the worlds best fast bowler winning us the ashes. |

Frankly there hasn't ever been a test side which hasn't sought an advantage wherever possible, unfair or otherwise...
Tresco was just stupid enough to make it public, I guess his 'illness' meant he didn't earn as much as he'd like and figured this might make up the difference.
Warne is too clever to ruin reputations by admitting when rules were broken for a bowling edge, besides, he can earn plenty from doing a commercial or two when he needs runs out of extra sticky hair gel. |
