I guess we all have an opinion as to what happened and IMHO i reckon the minty swing had a bearing on the outcome.
But being unable to admit that they used the mints in 2005 is beyond reason. |

Personally, i dont think the mints made 1 iota of difference to the result, we should have been able to get on top of that attack regardless. We didnt consistently enough and got copped for it.
That doesnt change the fact that the act is questionable regardless of when it was done, 01 or 05. |

You want to cherry pick quotes?
Ok I'll repeat this one
"The responses to Trescothick's revelations have been revealing by themselves. The story was broken by an English newspaper, but none of the English broadsheets deemed the matter significant enough to follow up or comment on. The Australian newspapers pounced on it with obvious relish. The Australian, the nationalist broadsheet, led with a headline that left no room for equivocation: "England cheated to win Ashes."
But the reaction from players was instructive. It only came to light later that Trescothick was referring to the 2001 Ashes," |

------------------------- ------------------------- ----------
August 25, 2008 FORMER England batsman Marcus Trescothick has admitted in a new book he illegally shone the ball by sucking on breath fresheners during the 2005 Ashes series.
The virtually unplayable reverse swing generated by pace bowlers Simon Jones and Andrew Flintoff-- which was crucial to England's Ashes triumph over Australia - may have been caused by Murray Mints, which, as with other artificial substances, is illegal.
The saliva from these mints aided swinging, Trescothick wrote in his autobiography 'Coming Back To Me'.
"I was firmly established as the man in charge of looking after the ball when we were fielding,'' he wrote in an excerpt which appeared in Britain's News of the World newspaper.
"It was my job to keep the shine on the new ball for as long as possible with a bit of spit and a lot of polish.
"And through trial and error I finally settled on type of spit for the task at hand.
"It had been common knowledge in county cricket for some time that certain sweets produced saliva which, when applied to the ball for cleaning purposes, enabled it to keep its shine for longer and therefore its swing.''
Australia left-arm quick Nathan Bracken was verbally lashed by Jones after the 2005 series for suggesting the use of mints was common in English cricket, but he says he was misquoted and did not want to comment, Fairfax media reported.
Trescothick, who retired from international cricket in March due to stress-related illness, also used the mints in the 2001 Ashes series and narrowly escaped detection during the Headingley Test.
"For the first time, as I dived to gather the ball at square-leg, I landed on my side and a shower of Murray Mints spewed out of my trouser pocket all over the grass right in front of the umpire,'' he wrote.
"Fortunately neither he nor the two batsmen seemed to take much notice as I scrambled around on all fours try ... |

Still Mr Bingle doesn't seem too worried about it. He must be too busy working out who's going to wear the zinc cream now he's lost his naughty little monkey.
I wonder if he wore it on his fishing trip. |

I'm sorry but there's nothing new there. He doesn't mention the 2005 series when he admits using sweets.
But the opening para is carefully worded.
"FORMER England cricketer Marcus Trescothick has reportedly admitted using sweets to alter the ball's swing during the 2005 Ashes series."
Note the use of the word "reportedly" |

Also just google the words Trescothick + Mints to find lots of stories about his and englands dirty deeds. |

Just for you..plain as day ok.
From the words of tresco from his book.
Marcus Trescothick's new autobiography where he has admitted to illegally shining the ball by sucking on mints during the 2005 Ashes series which was won by England.
+++++++++++++++++
We're going round in circles and disappearing up our own @rs eholes here. All we're hearing is "He said this" and "he said that." Not "I did this" and I did that".
All you're doing is quoting the journos' spin and assumptions.
You know what happens when you assume.
You make an "ASS" of "U" and "ME". |

Sorry KWC, I wasn't clear enough. I meant post the part where Tresco said he had shined the ball in the 2005 ashes, not where the reporter concluded that becasue he admitted it for the 2001 ashes, he must have done it for the 2005 ashes too. |

Hahahahah it was 3 years ago and STILL the whingeing Crims are going on about the 05 Ashes series, get over it boys you lost. Are you going to cr@p on about losing the 2008 Olympics to the Brits for the next four years and blame the cyclists for using mints between runs?? Are you going to whinge about losing the 2007 RWC quarter final to England because they played a game that wasn't suitable for you guys????
The bitter sweet irony about Aussies whingeing about cheating is hilarious, why do you think Andrew Symonds wears suncream even on cloudy days?, he's black for gods sake and has probably never sunburnt in his life, the Aussies use the cream to shine the ball you fools!!!
and what about Gilchrist's over appealing for LBW's in the past 15 years, he's been responsible for cheating more wickets than ANY other player in the history of the sport and yet no other cricket fans complain about him.
Now please Aussies, STOP whingeing and just get on with your lives. I know cricket is the only sport you have over England these days but it's time to stop being so bitter, you fast becoming the laughing stock of the sporting world |
