Re:Gavaskar removed from ICC Reply to this message
But I thought ICC was run by the BCCI? No? So how can they remove an Indian? Or maybe it easier for people to rant about BCCI hegemony and ICC-BCCI nexus of conspiracy blah blah when things don't exactly go their way.

Hm, "Dinosaurs" vs. "Monkeys".

Which one a derogerative term and why? 50 Points to the first one to supply a correct answer (but be quick, this post might not last THAT long)

Cricinfo's take

[QUOTE]Sunil Gavaskar, whose dual role as chairman of the ICC's cricket committee and trenchant columnist has caused concerns in several quarters, will be given the option to choose either function, the executive board of ICC has decided.

Gavaskar's position came up for discussion at the ICC board meeting in Dubai last week and Malcolm Speed, the ICC chief executive, has been authorised to take up the matter with Gavaskar. The decision was unanimous.

They are expected to meet in Dubai later this week, an ICC spokesperson confirmed to Cricinfo. It is believed that Gavaskar is currently holidaying in Dubai.

"Gavaskar is a cricket legend, but it was felt that his as ICC cricket commitee chairman was in direct conflict to his role as a journalist and commentator," said a source close to the situation. "ICC has not taken a decision in this regard. It is Gavaskar who has to decide now which role he is comfortable with. It's completely up to him." [UNQUOTE]

Re:Gavaskar removed from ICC Reply to this message
Not entirely accurate I think.
The story I heard was that Malcolm Speed had told him to choose between journalism and his chairmanship as there is a conflict of interest and the vote was related to that.

Gavaskar removed from ICC Reply to this message
SUNIL GAVASKAR is to be forced out of his position as chairman of the ICC's cricket committee.

A vote was carried at last week's executive committee meeting in Dubai that India's record-breaking batsman and former captain blah blah blah should be asked to resign because of a conflict of interest between his honorary ICC position and his paid role as a columnist and commentator.

It may explain an article by Gavaskar over the weekend, describing England and Australia as "dinosaurs" who cannot "open their eyes and see the reality".

Quid Pro Quo. Bright enough for you?
Signed
Tyrannosaurus Rex
