Next year, whoever tries to rip our arms or legs off, we'll do the same to them and rip their god damn arms AND legs off.

Manly got killed by the storm. But the storm tried to turn nathan cayless into nathan armless, by trying to rip his arm off.

Re:bring on them eagles Reply to this message
We all know that sonny bill williams doesn't care about being banned. Last year, he got banned, and then when he came back, he got banned again, and then later, when he came back, he got banned again .... etc.

On the other hand, we all know that thurston, lockyer and johns don't go around doing bad tackles. And thurston's tackle had nothing in it to start with, so those fools should have just shutted up and not pushed the issue. And, in the end, the right decision was made. Thurston is/was innocent.

Re:bring on them eagles Reply to this message
Some peoples thinking is if it is Thurston, Johns, Lockyer they shouldnt be suspended because they are the stars and fans want to see the best players.
While they are uninterested when the average player fron Canberra or Penrith cops 3-4 weeks for the same offence.
Sonny bill minimum 2 weeks, Thurston minimum 1 week.
But we know how it turned out.

Re:bring on them eagles Reply to this message
Statsy, you're looking at the effect and not the cause. The judiciary must become consistant. The way that offences are penalised, reported and then the rulings of the judiciary all leaves a lot to of people mystified.
Now I would not like to have their job at all, you have specialists in all sorts of fields (including sports medicine, physics, human movement) bringing new ideas to the table. Unfortunately the more we define what an offence is the more scope there is for experts to defend against it. the JT spear tackle incident was a classic example of a tackle that went wrong, it should never have gone any further than the onfield penalty and then the unbeleivable line the defence took just amplifies the defeciencies in the system.

grrpot.....AGREED! YOU ARE SPOT ON. JT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED FOR WEEKS FOR HIS ACTION. But if he gets off from a spear tackle "ow i can't lift him with my sore sore shoulders"

[The 4 reasons I am going off about it ... (1) It is far from sporting (2) It goes against the "Spirit of the Game (3) You can not do that to a ref in any sport (4) He is the Captain of a team - What example has he just given to both his team, and his young supporters. Funnily enough, the first 3 (but in this case - more 2 n 3) can be penalised by the ruling body of our game.]

I totally agree with you, unfortunately the ruling bodies, the media and in general the public allow/accept this behaviour. The code of conduct is so broad in it's statements that any dissent/gesture/bad language etc towards an official, opposing coach, opposing player even towards members of the public can be penalised, yet it is not.
The only way to police this is to be consistant and in the NRL judiciary that concept is not known.

Re:bring on them eagles Reply to this message
Yet you rarely see that sort of tripe. I can understand the reason he was questioning the call, dont get me wrong, but it was the little petulant display at the end that shocked me. Sorry, but you do not see that every week. To use another sport as an example, what he did was akin to a batsman being given LBW, walking up the crease .... questioning the ref why he was given out, and then shaping up as if he is going to hit the ump with his bat.

The 4 reasons I am going off about it ... In an age where refs are occasionally getting bashed at local grounds, this was a far from positive example of sportsmanship from an NRL Captain. The NRL and ARL introduced measures to cull this trash, seems it only depends on who does it huh?

Re:bring on them eagles Reply to this message
Sorry grrpot, the wording in nearly all of your posts asks the reader to become as anti-civil as you.
I am convinced that you post silly comments to incite others to do the same, if I appear to be biased then that is wrong because I don't wish to be.
No I haven't read the players code of conduct and have already stated that I found Thurston's action to be unprofessional, however he didn't get penalised or cited so apart from questioning his behaviour as setting a poor example for others to see there is not to much else for him to answer too.
On the same thread of setting poor examples every week in nearly every sporting contest I watch there are players mouthing off to refs and/or mouthing or using unsportsmanlike language, it would appear somewhat norrow minded to isolate one player for one incident when the general behaviour from sportspeople is to set poor examples

<I still believe that if you cannot make a positive contribution or comment then simply don't make one at all.>

Yes Mein Fuhrer !!!! How silly of me to ask a question, especially one about an unsavoury incident. Well bite me ... I am not going to stop talking about the game just because you don't like the discussion ....

And my other ramblings ..... What happens to the player who shapes up to a ref ? He gets nailed by a review committee thats what !!!! If the same thing had happened 2 weeks earlier in Townsville, and it was Mason instead of Thurston doing it, you would be calling for his head. Amazing double standard huh?

Didn't commit a foul ? Have you even read the Code of Conduct for Players. Guess not huh?

Re:bring on them eagles Reply to this message
I didn't say or imply that you said he threw the the ball!
I simply stated that he hadn't committed a foul, imo the boundary of foul play would have been crossed had he thrown the ball.
As for your other ramblings, especially the stabbing comments, I still believe that if you cannot make a positive contribution or comment then simply don't make one at all.
I respect your right to an opinion on who or what is the greatest player in the game, i doubt whether it is your..... A**e !!!!!

Re:bring on them eagles Reply to this message
Read my post .... did I say he threw it ??????? NO !!!!

At least you say it looked unprofessional, but I disagree about whether it was a foul. If you k0k a fist at a ref, but don't throw down, have you committed a foul?

I question his actions and I'm the fool? Seems to me the fools involved here are JT and his supporters .... seriously, if this guy stabs a woman 100 times you lot would probably say she had it coming.

"Greatest Player In The Game" ....... My A**e !!!!!

Yet again grrpot you continue with the name calling and carry ons.
Thurston didn't throw the ball at the ref, therefore did not commit a foul.
as unprofessional as it looked he didn't actually commit a foul, it's a bit similar to some one thinking you're a fool but not saying it, the thoughts there but no boundary's are crossed.

Re:bring on them eagles Reply to this message
Wow, you seriously have issues kitten killer. I mention the dummy spit and sooky actions by your teams "captain" and you come back with name calling.

Kitten Killer, I have no reason to be jealous of the NQ side .... after all, my team has won a GF this century. And the last time our sides met .... August 07 ... we carved you up !!! Jealous .... hardly !!!!

So, back to my question for sane supporters ..... was that any way for a captain to act? Considering a captain would be fined for bagging a ref, and can be fined for as little as touching a refs sleeve, should there be a penalty for acting as if you are about to hurl the ball at the refs head?

good work grrpot and doggiecassa. You have again confirmed your favourtism for the most silly comments to be made on any post, anytime you want to make a positive contribution feel free, we will all welcome it. Until then please leave your spoilt brat comments in your head where they don't offend poeple who are happy to support their team and enjoy a good game of footy. Well done Manly on your win, well done Cowboys for your efforts.

Re:bring on them eagles Reply to this message
And the doggies did so much better, didnt they???
The better team on the night won - there was no major conspiracy. Refereeing was ordinary, but had no outcome on the result.
Manly were a more consistent team during the season, and I would not begrudge them a GF appearance
