report from the pies latest intraclub match in South Africa.
Irish rookie Kevin Dyas at times looked like he's been in the system for years, and in a three-minute patch in the third quarter streamed forward on two occasions for two excellent running goals. |

| Absolutely! This time last year i was hoping to see Marty Clarke get a game at any stage, and we all know how good he has turned out to be. So bring on Dyas i say. Hopefully he gets a gig against Adelaide next weekend. I cant wait to watch it on 7 at 3 in the morning! |

A FORTNIGHT ago, in the final training session before Collingwood left for South Africa, the younger players were put through a kicking competition. It was a simple matter of turning and hitting a leading target in a knockout drill.
Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas and Marty Clarke were among those competing. Fine kicks all of them. None of them won. The winner was Kevin Dyas. Haven't heard of him? He is the new Irishman at Collingwood. He kicked an oval-shaped ball for the first time last year.
Sounds like he is coming along nicely!! |

Some news on Dyas...
http://bigpondvideo.com/afl/43123 (remove spaces if required)
The official line from the Pies is he is ahead of Marty at the same time last year. As in his skills are better.
I would agree (from my limited viewing last v this year--training) with that, although i would say Marty read the game better at the same stage.
Having said that he looks pretty good close in & could be the inside mid we are looking for. More physically developed than Marty was & looks a real prospect. |

| I helped coach an Aussie Rules side in Belfast. We had a large number of Irish playing oviously. The only down fall with the raw product is there kicking(used of kick a round ball) & having to handball when being tackled(not used to being tackled). Either one of those negatitive's is easily ironed out. Ireland is an untapped resource, there's many more Martin Clarke's in Ireland just as good if not better. |

COLLINGWOOD'S mining of Ireland has continued with a second teenager in as many years signing to join the Magpies.
After a month in Melbourne training with Collingwood and sampling life in Australia, 19-year-old Kevin Dyas returned to Ireland to consider the offer of a two-year contract to join the Magpies as an international rookie. Yesterday he contacted the club to accept.
Dyas, who plays Gaelic football for Dromintee in the Armagh Senior League, will now be pre-listed by the club as an international rookie ahead of the pre-season draft and will be training with the club come December.
The recruitment comes after the stunning success of compatriot Martin Clarke in converting from Gaelic and not only playing but excelling at AFL within 12 months.
Collingwood had done extensive work with Dyas in Ireland and Britain before bringing him to Melbourne recently for a four-week training and familiarisation trip. He impressed the coaching staff and was even advanced on where Clarke was at the same time.
"They are very professional, a team that takes the game seriously, with a very professional game plan. I would be going out to give it my best shot, there would be no point wasting my time," Dyas told Irish media.
Collingwood recruiting manager Derek Hine said Dyas was extremely quick and a similar type of player to Clarke.
"Kevin played more of a defensive game in Gaelic and Martin more of an attacking offensive game but his speed and his agility are outstanding," Hine said.
"He is 182 centimetres and I would think he would mature into a Paul Kelly-type of build, extremely quick and good lateral movement. When he has the ball, he has the same sort of awareness as Marty (Clarke)." |

Armagh underage star Kevin Dyas has been offered to chance to become a professional footballer with Aussie Rules outfit Collingwood.
The 19 year-old has been invited to sign a two year contract after impressing the Magpies during a month-long trial.
If the Dromintee starlet agrees to move Down Under he will link up with former Down minor star Martin Clarke at the Collingwood club.
Dyas becomes the sixth Irish player to be offered an Australian Rules contract in recent seasons. |

| this will be the tip of the iceberg, any club that does the hard yards and sources these kids will find talent. and I think the irish kids are starting to see thier game as a stepping stone to earning big bucks over here. |

ARMAGH’S rising star Kevin Dyas boarded a plane to Australia last night to begin a month-long trial with AFL club, Collingwood.
A representative from the
Melbourne club flew to Ireland last weekend to watch Dyas play for his club Dromintee against Crossmaglen Rangers in the Armagh
senior championship. Dyas was superb and the game ended in a draw.
Dyas will be met in Melbourne by Down’s Martin Clarke who has proved to be a sensation since joining ‘the Magpies’. Dyas and Clarke were opponents in last year’s
MacRory Cup final. Clarke represented St Louis’, Kilkeel while Dyas played for Abbey CBS.
The Dromintee lad spearheaded the Newry school to Hogan Cup glory when he scored 2-1 in the All-Ireland Colleges’ final against St Pat’s, Navan. Since leaving the Abbey,
Dyas began a course at the University of Ulster.
This year, he was on Jordanstown’s Sigerson Cup panel, the Armagh U21 squad which won the Ulster title, and Joe Kernan’s senior squad. Dyas also received an offer from
the Brisbane Lions, but Collingwood proved to be his first choice. |
