Broncos Sign Premiership Winner
Thursday, 12 November 2009
THE WOW Brisbane Broncos have boosted their front row stocks with the signing of premiership-winning prop Scott Anderson.
The Broncos have lured Anderson, who grew up on the Gold Coast, fresh from coming off the bench in Melbourne's 2009 premiership win.
The 23-year-old Anderson said being back close to family and friends was a big factor in his decision to sign a two year deal.
``Coming back to Queensland was a big part of my decision," he said.
"I have been very lucky to have been in such a great team at the Storm and been in two grand finals, winning one.
``The Storm have a lot of good front-rowers, some of them young and coming through.
``I found my opportunity at the Broncos - I'm ready to go to a club and try to get another premiership with the Broncos.''
Anderson played 18 first grade matches for Melbourne last season, averaging 29 minutes a game, finishing the season impressively.
He played for the Tugun Seahawks before joining Melbourne and was a Junior Kangaroo, but said he was not disappointed to end up at his home city NRL club.
``I'm only an hour away from my family and the Broncos are a good club who have a history of developing props, with Petero Civoniceva and Ben Hannant,'' he said.
``I think it will be really good for my career and to get the opportunity I sort of deserve.''
Anderson will report for Broncos training on November 30. |

Broncos voted as most popular footy club
AAP - October 30, 2009, 11:42 pm
The Brisbane Broncos have knocked off the Sydney Swans in an independent ratings survey to find Australia's most popular sporting team.
It completes a double for the NRL's Broncos who also came out winners in TV viewer rankings compiled by brands researcher Repucom in a study of 2009 television audience numbers across the NRL, AFL, rugby's Super 14 and A-League.
The Swans took the most supported tag from the Broncos in 2004 after their golden AFL premiership run.
But September figures released this week by prominent pollsters Roy Morgan - who surveyed more than 20,000 people on topics ranging from peanut butter to football teams - put the Broncos' supporter base at 1,202,611, knocking off the Swans (1,163,872).
The AFL's Brisbane Lions came in third on 879,597 in the poll which asked people which team they supported in each code.
Broncos general manager of commercial operations Terry Reader said topping the survey gave some negotiating clout and appeal with sponsors in a very competitive market place.
"It's a great result for us as the outcome means a good flow on for our sponsors and corporate partners who invest in our brand," he said.
"It shows they're getting a bit more bang for their buck.
"It shows the Broncos are well liked and well received and that they get exceptional exposure in the national market place.
"We're really proud of the result when you think we've been around for 22 years and some clubs have been around for a century."
Melbourne Storm, who appeared in the past four NRL grand finals, winning two, have gone from 497,000 supporters in 2004 to almost 800,000 in the 2009 results and are fourth overall despite being based in AFL heartland.
Industry communications director at Roy Morgan Research, Norman Morris, said the poll results would make interesting reading for the AFL and A-League, both planning new teams for Sydney's western suburb ... |

I don't like revolving doors and thats wot it looks like BUT he is only 12 months in!
your estimation of 12th....is way off! There is too much going for them and the pool of talent yet to be unearthed is beyond your intellect!! Sure the standard of the game has risen (thanks to the QRL & Bronco's), so its totally expected and may I say ABOUT TIME the other NRL clubs got there act and put decent teams together!!!! NO THANKS TO YOU LOT here!! |

Henjak gets another assistant at Broncos
AAP - October 22, 2009, 8:18 pm
Brisbane's appointment of Anthony Griffin as Ivan Henjak's latest assistant will be well received by those who know his ability to develop young players.
Griffin, who'll join Allan Langer and Peter Ryan as one of Henjak's assistants in 2010, has enjoyed two outstanding seasons coaching the club's under-20 side.
A number of his 2008 pupils, including hooker Andrew McCulloch, winger Jharal Yow Yeh, forward Josh McGuire, halfback Ben Hunt and centre/fullback Dale Copley, played first grade this season and more have been earmarked to play in 2010.
The 43 year-old father of three had been an assistant coach with Melbourne and Queensland Cup coach of Redcliffe for three seasons until former Broncos coach Wayne Bennett convinced him to take over the club's Toyota Cup side in 2008.
He took them to the grand final in 2008 and fell one game short of repeating the performance this season.
His experience with the club's young guns will be an enormous help to Henjak with as many as 14 of them involved in Brisbane's future plans.
"I feel after the long experience I have had coaching for 15 or 16 years that I can now offer something to the NRL team, said Griffin on Thursday.
"I'm ready to work at the NRL level now." |
