Rookies Learn Ropes At Camp

Fri 12.12.2008 - Steve Ricketts

ROOKIES from five NRL clubs will assemble in Brisbane today for a camp which could make or break their aspirations as professional footballers.

The Broncos, Cowboys, Titans, Storm and New Zealand Warriors have nominated the elite of their youth crop to attend the camp, which officials hope will help put the players on the right path in football and life.

The NRL can only do so much and the rest is up to the individuals, but as the demands of professional football increase, on and off the field, the players are being afforded every possible assistance.

"The rookie camp is a good bonding experience for the boys and they also get to interact with kids from other clubs."

The Broncos under-20s were beaten 28-24 by Canberra in the 2008 grand final, with five players promoted to the NRL top 25 for 2009.

They are Gerard Beale, Ben Hunt, Andrew McCullough, Josh McGuire and Will Tupou.
