Te'o Gunning For Round One Jersey
BEN Teâo doesnât expect any favours from new WOW Brisbane Broncos coach Ivan Henjak when the 2009 season begins.
The former Wests Tigers second rower knows that form will be the deciding factor of the make-up of the Broncosâ scrum when round one kicks off against the Cowboys on March 13.
âThere is a lot of competition here and I love that because it makes me push to my potential,â he said.
âWe have a lot of good back rowers here â Lagi Setu, Corey Parker, and a lot of younger ones too like Will Tupou.
âThere are spots open but it is up to whoever wants it.
âI think that is healthy for the club and it keeps all the older players on their toes.
âWe are a young side so it is time for blokes to step up and I think that in itself is healthy.â
Since arriving at Broncos training after playing for Samoa in the World Cup, Teâo has felt comfortable straight away.
Brisbane is a good fit for this former Gold Coast schoolboy.
âI have settled in pretty good - we have been training hard and I have settled in to my new place, and I am getting to know the boys in the team,â he said.
âI am enjoying Brisbane. Itâs very different â Sydney is very fast.
âAnother big plus is I can shoot down to the Gold Coast on the weekends and see some of my old schoolmates.
âThis is all new so I feel like I am starting all over again.â
But his focus is solely on getting one of those back-rower jerseys for the March blockbuster against the Cowboys.
âCome round one, my goal is to have got through the pre-season feeling confident and also be a starter in that first game,â he emphasised.
âMy first goal is to keep on improving on my game and my second goal is to be starting in that game.â |
