It concerns me that JB would command that type of salary. Simply from a Club point of view.

With the Gold Coast team coming in, you'd have to make sure you find room for both your stars and youngsters otherwise it will be hard times ahead.

The aging players would likely be in 'veteran' status. So it would be in the clubs IMMEDIATE interest to look after their stars and get them to stay.. however that puts the club in a hole 5 years from now.

Lappin, Power, Black, Bradshaw, Notting etc. (all ageing, but timeless) are examples of players Brisbane have built a dynasty around.. But will they still be playing when the Gold Coast team comes into play? It may free up some salary cap room, but if they DO leave, WHAT a hole to fill.

The newbie names we will HAVE to keep in the coming years are J.McDonald, Adccok, Patfull, Risky, Roe, McGrath, Drummond, Begley, Stiller, Hooper, Shermann, Berger, Merrett, Hendersen, Clark, Corrie, Brennan (*sigh*), Proud and Charman. These guys are the way forward.

I say Sign Brown, offer him 1.1 a year.. Surround him with these guys I've listed, who will all be solid players but only 4-5 have the potential to be all australian class. You may get away with paying them 'a little bit less than the big fella' in order to keep everyone, then once JB hits veteran status that frees a little wiggle room to negotiate with your players/trade players.

The downside, I see is lures from rival clubs (look at last year with Brennan, Hadley, Drummond et al involved in trade talks) and if Voss gets the Gold Coast Coaching role, In 2 years, I can see Adccok being lured to the Coast with a Hefty paycheck and perhaps a captaincy.
