| You make a lot of sense so I'll throw in my abridged two cents. Having moved over to Australia from the Staes a couple years ago (love et al) I see basketball alive and well n kicking here. The truth however is you get the NBA's best together and let them play for a while together and it's essentially over for other teams. The key is of course figurung out who is the best, the best team players. Dosn't mean all the big stars get an automatic bye. I personally welcome the flow of international players to the NBA, more please. Their skill sets are more rounded and more constructive to team play and winning championships. Look, throwing guys together that normally don't play together is hodgepodge at best. | People keep on citing NBA stars as proof that the USA is the best basketball country. Interesting that they do not mention the stars of the NBA who are foreign born, ie Pau Gasol, Dirk Nowitzki,Tony Parker, Yao Ming, Manu Ginóbili, Hedo Turkoglu and Steve Nash. As I said in an earlier post, there is no doubt that the USA is the most successful country in international basketball, but that they can be beaten. This is why the US went from the Dream team to the Redeem team to recapture national pride after losses at the world level. As countries such as Argentina and Spain have proven a star team can beat a team of stars. This is why in FIBA rankings the USA are 2nd at the momment. As for NBA FIBA rule differences lets focus on the biggest 2. Firstly NBA the zone is an illegal defence, but the 3peat Bulls showed how to run a man on man so well as to be a zone in disguise, so nothing there. And 2 the ability in the NBA to take 3 steps on a layup as apposed to the international rule of just 2, this does nothing more than allow for flashier moves to the hoop in the NBA. So at the end of the day, rules differences don't come down to much. Yes the USA is the most successful country, but boy oh boy do I love watching them get beaten! |

| ARE YOU SERIOUS? Dude granted San Antonio is boring as hell to watch but are you kidding me with the boring bit? International rules were made to stop us Americans from making international teams look stupid! International rules slow the game down so much more. I play basketball here in the states and when I spent last year in Australia and had to transition to international rules, it was difficult. The style of play here is so much more aggresive compared to international ball. I am not sure what you mean when you say that the NBA dosn't use plays... Maybe that just shows your lack of basketball knowledge, or it could be that your still bitter that America dominated Australia by 31 points in the Olympics. Either way the USA is undoubtedly the king of basketball. Just like you guys should be running the table in league, union, and criket. All of these sports I learned and participated in during my year in Aus. I will be the first to say that I am disapointed in the United States participation of world sports, but I am happy we atleast feild teams in some. We do have a lowsey union team, and we have just created a cricket team. Of corse yall will crush us in both I am happy to see America embrassing the sports. | Yes the USA is the most successful country in basketball internationally. However in recent years they have demonstrated they can be beaten (mens by Argentina and Spain to name two). Likewise in the womens. As for rules, yes basketball was invented by James Naismith (an american, but a naturalised Canadian) however the NBA does not use the FIBA rules used by the rest of the world and the Olympics. |

| Lithaawhoo! I am a big NBA fan from way back, when I use to watch the DOCTOR play. I know the U.S.A have alot of showboaters and stuck up arrogant misfits in the league now but the U.S.A have alot of talent. The only reason they might lose any games is there egos get in the way, let's take e.g last year they won the Olympics with ease, why, they played as a team. Team work is something that is hard to come by when your the STAR of your NBA team, the go to guy,the big dog on your team, now put all these types of players in one team and you'll have problems.
