| Only if Seattle make proper use of all that cap space and draft picks. |

| I'll stand by my earlier comment that the team that did the best outta this one was Seattle. |

Wait - not damage their cap? Wallace is waaaaaaay overpaid.
It's weird - because both fanbases are happy with the trade, merely on what their teams have got RID of.
Smith'll be ok, West's an upgrade on what they had... but Wally won't do much.
In no way shape or form does this make them any where NEAR Boston or Detroit, at best it puts them close to par with Orlando (and in my opinion, it doesn't).
Not only that, the team got older. This may well be the trade that ends up seeing James in a different uniform. |

Don't dismiss Smith don he is actually an improvement on both sides of the ball over Gooden.
Wallace if he plays ok is a bonus because I think the trade was more based from the Cavs side on the improvements to the team that Wally,West and Smith will bring than on Big Ben.If he starts playing decent defence again that would just be the icing on the cake for them. |

| Not a great deal for the Cavs but probably the best they could manage with what they had. They improve whilst not damaging their long term cap situation. |

You sir, have not been paying attention. Ya godda be kiddin' me ne0n...
Ben Wallace has been point-blank awful for the Bulls. Why do you think they call him 'The Corpse' in Chicago? Joe Smith? Gimme a break.
West is an upgrade at point merely because they HAVE no-one at point.
Wally's the only decent thing in this deal for the Cavs... unless Ben gets to be 75-80% of what he was in Detroit.
Chicago are stoked to be rid of Big Ben... but they're jammed at guard slots now, and have traded Ben's millstone for Larry's albatross. Positives for them are that they now have minutes to give Tyrus Thomas/Joakim Noah. However, I'd suggest that this is Chicago writing the season off - look for them to trade either Deng/Gordon in the off-season.
No, the team that did best outta these three is Seattle. |

don... that's a pretty good deal by Ferry... in acquiring Ben Wallace, Wally Szczerbiak, Delonte West and Joe Smith
wheew... the East suddenly becomes a 3 way field with Boston maybe regretting not sneaking in a last minute deal onto their roster...
Seattle obviously don't care and Chicago would be thrilled to get rid of Ben Wallace..
Pretty good dealing all around... |

3 Team deal - Chicago/Seattle/Cleveland
Ben Wallace, Wally Szczerbiak, Delonte West and Joe Smith to Cleveland...
Ira Newble and Donyell Marshall to Seattle.
Larry Hughes, forwards Drew Gooden and Cedric Simmons, and guard Shannon Brown to Chicago.
Is Danny Ferry THAT stupid? |

| Apparently it's not so cut 'n' dried. Van Horn will be expected to show up for a physical, and be prepared to play... and they're not quite sure if a) he'll pass the physical, or b) be prepared to do so. |

A very nice retirement present for him a few million bucks for his signature on a few documents.
Mckie is now getting paid by 2 clubs not to play for them having been bought out by the 76ers and now Memphis, If he keeps going at this rate he will be paid more for not playing than he did as a player. |

| Amazing thing for Keith Van Horn, who is retired (has been for 18 months) - he'll be bought out of his contract, just as Aaron McKie was in the Gasol trade... |

The trade of Jason Kidd to Dallas appears to be back on. The Mavs and Nets on Sunday had reached an agreement in principle sending Kidd to Dallas along with Malik Allen for Devin Harris, Trenton Hassell, DeSagana Diop, Maurice Ager, Keith Van Horn, $3 million and two first-round picks.

Stackhouse's comments have put a rather large hole in the deal with sources saying that the Mavs would be barred from resigning him if he is part of the trade.
This was important to both teams with the Mavs wanting him back for depth and the Nets wanting him to sign the aranged deal with the Mavs because it would have an offset clause in it that would allow the Nets to reduce their cap liability and amount of his buyout and thereby save themselves a lot of cap space and money |

Not so fast...
Devean George blocked the deal.
A provision in his contract situation ('Early Bird') gives him the right to say 'nuh-uh'.
I'm betting he's putting the pressure on for more for him. |

Few points -
* Stackhouse will be bought out by the Nets... and can then resign wherever...
* The Mavs also send the Nets the league-maximum $3 million, the Mavs' first-round draft pick this June and a first-rounder in 2010.
So, not quite as cheap as Gasol - the Lakers didn't give up a player in their top 9. The Mavs gave up both Harris, and George. And in a few years time, Harris will be a very, very good point guard. |

kidd to dallas a done deal....apparently. the west is getting absurd. i cant believe these blockbusters. and i guess that makes 2 teams now (dallas and pho) who have mortaged thier future to win now. at least one, or maybe even both, are going to be very upset.
on the kidd deal, apparently the mavs can resign jerry stackhouse in a month as the nets have agreed to waive him. so the only major piece they gave up was harris and back-up centre diop. not quite like the gasol deal, buy pretty good. kidd will give them the toughness that they so desperately need. |

I think it's losing a bit of its lustre.... maybe an US v Europe or Internationals would be far more entertaining...
And as deserving as they may be Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton? Rasheed Wallace? Chris Paul? Brandon Roy? David West?
solid players but hardly entertaining...
BTW The game itself is a lottery, all comes down to who wants it more in the final 2 minutes... |
