I don't think he'll come back at that point, but the Lakers now have the luxury of easing him back into it... making sure he *is* back at that point by the playoffs.

You're forgetting one thing: because as well as the Lakers have been playing, they still have Bynum to come back...

Another unbelievable effort by Byrant. 30 points in the last quarter to save his teams a$$ cause they were getting outplayed i thought. Gasol is obviously the piece the Lakers puzzle been missing but i dont think it is affecting Kobes MVP chances in the slightest. But damm i wish it was.

Im still rating Dallas as the dark horse i hope these to get to match up again come playoffs!

I'm looking forward to those challenging games for Houston. It will really give some indication how far they have come under Adelman and if they have any hope of matching it with the favourite teams in the playoffs.

I thought the Rockets were over with Yao gone but they continue to impress. Theyve got the Pacers next at home, which i imagine theyd win but then i think then theyve got Dallas in Dallas (or maybe at home but either way theyll go down) In the next few weeks theyve got the Hornets twice, Kobes and Boston and i suspect thats about were it will all come crashing down.

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
"He didn't cooperate on any of our defenses."

-- Mavs coach Avery Johnson, explaining the futility of the many defenses Dallas used to try to stop Kobe Bryant.

HAd a good laugh at this quote..

15 straight for Houston... A tie for a franchise record... Beat Denver convincingly today!!. 5 players once again in double figures. This is a whole new team under Aldeman as coach. Amazing record of consecutive wins! Credit where credit is due!

I agree it should help ...In a lot of articles they say the team(lakers)are now 10-2 with gasol ,12-2 etc with gasol , it sort of takes the emphisis away from kobe and I thought that may hurt his chances.

Gasol going to the Lakers helps Kobe's MVP claims rather than hinders it because winning lots of games is one of the more important qualities that voters have looked for in past MVP's .

And by the way I didn't say the Spurs were pretty fantastic I said that by the standards of a "good but not amazing season" this was a pretty fantastic one.which is totally different.

<<You do know that the Spurs are on top of the Western Conference standings don't you?>>

And gimme a break.
They've actually won less than LA, and are on the same amount of wins as 3 other teams. Yes, currently on top. But hardly the typical season. If you're going to declare the Spurs as 'pretty fantastic', then there are at least 6 other teams you'd better attach the same description to.

Given that most 'people-who-know-what-the y're-talking-about' think that most NBA players now hit their peak in their late-20s to early-30s (again, depending on the individual and position), and that the key players in the Lakers team are 29 or younger... they're fine. But thanks for worrying.

Re:NBA Season 07/08 Reply to this message
The Lakers really aren't that young don. They might have young players but look who plays the minutes for them rather than who is on the roster.

The ages of the players who have played more than a third of the minutes for the Lakers this year:

Kobe 29
Odom 28
Fisher 33
Walton 27
Farmer 21
Bynum 21
Turiaf 25
Radmanovic 27

and since he got there Gasol 27

So 2 young guys,1 bit older than you think guy in Turiaf,1 old guy and the rest 27-29.

The Lakers are younger than most of the other contending teams rather than young.

"San Antonio will probably do their usual thing and start demolishing teams in the playoffs after a good but not amazing regular season."

You do know that the Spurs are on top of the Western Conference standings don't you?. That is a pretty fantastic "good but not amazing regular season".

I don't give Orlando much of a chance of winning the East this year.Detroit and Boston are clearly better than them IMO and the Cavs would probably be favourites and win a series against them.

For the West I'll take the winner of the Spurs-Lakers series whenever in the playoffs it happens.

For the East Boston over Detroit (as long as they don't freeze again when facing Lebron)

Toronto -Cavs looks the only competitive 1st round game in the East ,The West looks likely to have 3 or 4 good 1st round series.( the Warriors don't match up well with the Spurs as the only doubt).

Re:NBA Season 07/08 Reply to this message
I think the Lakers might push that back to later in March - they're doing fine, and best to have him back strong, and run into the finals.

Holy gods... I cannot believe where the Lakers are now.
Beginning of the season, I wasn't sure they'd even make the playoffs!
Amazing how a maturing (from 'very young' to merely 'young') roster, and one good trade can improve not only the side, but Kobe too.

Re:NBA Season 07/08 Reply to this message
its a remarkable situation with the rockets. fourth in their own division, yet they would be a clear third if they played in the eastern conference. it just doesnt seem fair, but thats the way it goes i guess. this western conference play off series is gonna be unbelievable from game 1.

very happy (and certainly a little surprised) with the win today don. the lakers have been a juggernaut since pau came on board, and certainly deserve their number one ranking at the moment. but to come out and knock them off with everyone contributing was a great effort. the blazers have been pretty horrible since just before the all star break, but a few more wins like this would be a great way to cap off what has been a very successful season. add oden and (hopefully) fernandez, plus a late lottery pick, thats a heap more talent coming in next season.

on the lakers - whats the go with bynum?? i havent heard anything about him for a few weeks. is he still on track for a return in mid march??

Re:NBA Season 07/08 Reply to this message
@ne0n - yup, in his CAREER, T-Mac has never won a playoff series.

@urri - they are still a team that's only ranked FOURTH in their division. And whilst you're right on that it's an amazing streak, in that time they have only beaten 3 teams that are over .500. The only teams of note they've beaten are New Orleans and Cleveland (and I don't rate Cleveland as a truly elite squad).

Awesome win to Portland today slops - stopping the Lakers streak. Pretty impressed with the Lakers at the moment. Pre-season I had them not doing too well at all. But even given that they're missing Bynum, and have the 2nd toughest strength-of-schedule, they are a game clear on top of the West.
Can they maintain this? Dunno, but I am enjoying it now.

Re:NBA Season 07/08 Reply to this message
neon. Bit different this season. They started like s/hit and are really turning it on in the business end of the regular season. A much improved and well rounded team compared to the past. The coach I believe has done an exceptional job. One more win and it will match a franchise high for games one in a row and it is not the start of the season!.
