so we can officially cross Lebron out of the MVP race...
it will be between Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett and whilst a CO-MVP award would be nice, a lot of the media coverage has gone to the Celtics giving us a fair idea of who will win it.... |

Tomorrow - Seattle in LA.
And post two 'tough' games, where are the Lakers? Still sitting atop the Western Conference.
To be honest, I have no idea how they won vs Dallas/vs Utah. Was pretty sure they'd lose one of those two when Gasol went down. I guess they all 'believe'. Turiaf's been a workman, and Odom's been a monster. |

<<I still think the Lakers will lose today, and slip down the ladder.>>
*cough-cough*
Not so... 'present', huh?
Didja mean 'today' as in (US) Thursday? Beat the Jazz, on their home-court, without Bynum or Gasol. Never, ever looked like losing. |

<<it will be for a political reason as he hasnt won one>>
How could you possibly state that? a) If they give it to him, it's well deserved... b) the very reason he HASN'T won one is 'political reasons'... |

Be a pretty neat trick if they did... considering they don't play. |

Lakers won by two points, so I wasnt that far off:) Led by 25, and nearly blew it
Now, Don, didnt you predict that Lakers would top the Western Conference???
I still think the Lakers will lose today, and slip down the ladder. |

hey regarding the Rockets 22 win streak..
I read somewhere that it proved the West was over rated and that Boston and Detroit would have cruised through if they were in that Conference....
Simply put Houston proved the West is not necessarily full of good teams and their records have been bloated by playing the East which bar 4 teams are in basic free fall |

i agree with don on this one. whoever draws houston in the first round, whether houston has home court or not, would feel very comfortable with that matchup. i am not saying houston couldnt win, just that i think they are highly unlikely to win, especially without yao.
but great winning streak though. 2nd longest ever. amazing accomplishment.
<<So much for that bit o' *wisdom*, huh?>>
hahahaha. i hope harba comes out and declares the blazers are no chance of making the playoffs next year and that oden is gonna be a complete bust ;) |

No offense Urri, but during the streak you beat teams that were either way under strength (LA), or teams that are young and erratic (NO), despite rankings.
That's not to say it's not a fantastic achievement, but I think that when a team has a 22 game winning streak that propels them to the top of the Western Conference standings, and no-one talks about them being a chance to win the title, it speaks volumes.
But I agree: a miraculous feat, especially given that half of it was sans Yao. And it should be celebrated. |

| It took the best team in the league to snap the streak. Their record of consecutive wins was a major highlight of the regular season. For a lot of the streak they didn't even have their best team on the court. Many of the NBA ana/lysts have been saying that it was a miraculous feat. Which it was. |

Boston snaps Houston's streak, thrashing them in their own home: 94-74.
<<LA Lakers will slip to 7th in the West by Friday>>
So much for that bit o' *wisdom*, huh?
LA def Dallas, 102-100.
Best player on the court Lakers vs Dallas: Kobe Bryant. 29 points, 7 assists. At one point, LA was up by 25 points mid-way through the 3rd quarter. |

Yup. Of course it's just 'my' claim... no-one else anywhere has stated that Kobe's playing NBA basketball.
And of course how the Lakers do whilst two out their best 3 players (the two guys who can start at center) are out would indicate if 'I know what I'm talking about'...
Nice assertion ne0n...

Well done to the Rockets, beating the Lakers.
Still - I don't now count the Lakers as an elite team without Gasol.
Whatever tho' - 22 on the run is a mighty impressive feat. |

neon, having a look over the teams that houston have beat over their streak, i have to say, a large part of this streak has to do with their schedule. only new orleans (twice), cleveland (twice), golden state and dallas are playoff teams that the rockets have played, in addition to two good teams outside of the playoffs in denver and portland. add to this only 7 of these games have been played on the road. but in saying that, over a 20 game period, there has to be a letdown game where things dont work, the oppostion is too good, or you dont get a couple of game changing calls. to their credit, they havent allowed this to happen. so i guess, whether its a cushy schedule or not, they most certainly deserve their streak. as far as a legit title contender goes, i will reserve judgement until they complete next week (lakers, boston, new orleans, golden state & phoenix).
a few other things:
- bynum running on a treadmill. don, that must be good news, even if it has taken a little longer then first thought. obviously you dont want to rush him back, but you would think the lakers would want him back on the court by the end of the month to give him a good three weeks to get his touch and game fitness back.
- oden had his first training session today since his microfracture sugery. reports say he was looking good, throwing down a couple of dunks whilst doing some individuals. hopefully all keeps progressing smoothly.
- and as for GM of the year, i reckon kupchak should get it but he has to share it with chris wallace. it would only be fair. |

| some points on the Rockets winning streak... does anyone see them causing any damage in the playoffs? what does this say about Yao Ming? AND why couldn't Boston or the LA Lakers achieve this... is it all about the schedule? |

| Rockets match second longest winning streak in NBA history. What a feat. If anyone has watched a Rockets game recently you would have seen a team playing great basketball. Amazing cohesion. Let's hope T-Mac can get out of the first round of the playoffs for the first time in his career. |

If Boston can get the best record in the league and homecourt in the NBA Finals which is getting more realistic, I seriously reckon they could pinch a title ala Detroit....
master_ah, the Celtics by no means have dominated the West if you look at their road trips but at the same time seem to have had no problems against the likes of the Spurs and Mavs at home...
just imagine a Boston v LA finals series... wouldn't be surprised if the NBA pushed for it.... {wink, wink} |
