"Has any team ever got the no.1 pick 2 years in a row?'
remember when Orlando got Shaq and Penny back to back in 92 and 93? Prior to that Houston drafted the twin towers of Olajuwon and Sampson in 83 and 84... |

Oden will be back , no doubts about it.

Amare is still a lot less explosive than he was pre-surgery.
____________________
True, but he is getting there.
During the 2007 playoffs Amare averaged 25.3 points and 12.1 rebounds. He is one of the best big men in the NBA.
There is hope for Oden as well. |

Oden has a good chance of coming back but it isn't a sure thing that he will either make it back or if he does be as effective as a player.

Oden will recover, no doubt about it.
Amare Stoudemire had the same surgery, and is now one of the best (if not the best) big men in the NBA. |

Darius Miles had the same surgery as Oden last season and currently he's drifting between continuing his NBA career or pursuing an acting career....
BTW I was thinking point guard phenom OJ Mayo becomes eligible next season for the draft but given some of the incidents he has been involved in would the Trailblazers given their team policy, still go ahead with Mayo?
I know its a big WHAT IF? but as I mentioned before when David Robinson went down for the season for the Spurs.. I just knew they would wind up with the No.1 and Tim Duncan..
I feel it with the Trailblazers too... |

I reckon Portland will do the best they can but won't do too well.
There is a silver lining for the Blazers. They can get another good draftpick, and come back for the 2008/2009 season with a great young team. |

hahaha. thanks master, makes me feel a whole lot better. not sure whats going on with miles - i know they want to get rid of him but they cant trade him (no one wants him or his large contract) and they cant buy out his contract (already brought out stevie franchise). interesting to see what happens here.
i think you can write off pj brown or webber joining the team. those kind of veterns want to play on a championship calibre team to get that elsuive ring, not be part of a rebuilding program.
i would have thought that with oden we would have been looking at 35-40 wins. now, i reckon somewhere around 20-25 would be about the mark. we will end up with another high lottery pick, but it is only a small consilation for what would have been one years worth of development of oden in the nba as well as working on chemistry and combinations moving forward. this really sucks. but give me a few days and i will put a positive spin on it. |

| But looking on the bright side for the Blazers , Darius Miles is apparently in with a chance of playing this year which I am sure will make up for Odens loss :) |

yeah ,your right, I forgot about the randolph trade.
And I dont see a band aid solution, they will play the season out and get another good draft pick. |

| I doubt they'll go for a bandaid fix that will hurt them in the long run (cost of a veteran contract)... |

mandati I think it'll be interesting to see if they can improve on their 32-50 record...
They'll be basically entering the new season with the same roster but missing a front court with Oden absent and Randolph traded away...
with the likes of Chris Webber and PJ Brown still on the market... we'll find out whether the Trailblazers will concede or give their fans some sort of hope of a minor play off spot.... |

Gotta feel sorry for the portland fans.So much hype when they drafted oden.I wonder if their season ticket holders can get a refund..lol...
Mind you , they still should go ok(no i am not talking play offs ,but an improvement from last season. |

wow! I don't think anyone expected this... and how Portland wish they could get Zach Randolph back... LOL!
I think this'll be like when David Robinson went down and the Spurs wound up getting Tim Duncan sort of situation for the Blazers as they'll unfortunately be again in the running for a top 3 draft pick....
I do feel sorry for Oden but he should stay positive as he has youth on his side and Amare Stoudamire and Jason Kidd have proven that you can successfully come back from microfracture surgery.... |

Not good news ,just hope that he turns out to be one of those who recovers fully and not one that ends up having career ending problems in a couple of years time.
It also shows just how big a gamble drafts can be as everyone knew he had knee problems amongst other medical issues and yet most would still have taken the risk and drafted him number one.Sometimes I guess even a sure thing isn't a sure thing. |

FU CK .
i have had a bad feeling about this one for the last couple of days. all i can hope for now is that he makes a full recovery and isnt bothered by this stuff in the future.
but on the bright side, the blazers arent even gonna have to try and tank to finish up with one of the worst records in the league. i can see another top 6 pick coming on. find ourselves a decent SF, and then add oden and fernandez (who is doing very well in the euro champs) and we will be right to challenge for the playoffs the folowing season.
but man that is such a long way away. |
