Interesting comments from Phil on Kobe's mindset leading into the season.

Is this true or an attempt to play mind games with Kobe by the Zen Master I wonder?

Agreed ne0n, he's made an absolute mess of the team, and paired with Jim Buss it's a nightmare.

I really do wish that the Lakers would move on, and actually build a team... but it won't happen...

well whatever happens as long as Mitch Cupcake is around as Lakers GM, they'll be wandering the desert for years..

in Australian sports particularly Aussie Rules you can become a member of a sporting team and enforce changes to a board and get rid of stupid GMs through the democratic process...

In American sports that doesn't exist unfortunately...

You guys state: well, Atlanta would be good blah, blah blah...
Ignoring a) that Kobe'll never go there, and b) for the Lakers franchise to operate as it currently does, they need a drawcard. Kobe is, Josh Smith isn't.

What fans millions of miles away want is irrelevant.
If we're discussing on a purely fantasy level, lemme know.

Sloppy... sorry bud, but you just don't get it, huh?

I don't give a rat's ass whether they have superstars in there, but it's a SIMPLE FACT OF THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS FRANCHISE that they will want to have... nay, NEED to have a superstar there, or they simply cannot sell tickets.
Me discussing this is merely acknowledging a fact of the franchise, rather than proffering opinion.

Far too often here the realities of franchises et al are ignored and it delves into simple fantasy/opinion.

don, i just dont understand you laker fans. you seem to be more worried about whether or not jack nicholson or brad pitt are going to reknew their season tickets then putting together a team that is capable of winning a title. you could have called me out out on the atlanta trade in so many different ways on how it wouldnt work, but you focus on josh smith not been a superstar or jack nicholson not wanting to cheer on al horford. i would have thought this would have been the least of your worries.

answer me this: would you rather cheer for the lakers with kobe, lamar and little else win 40 to 45 games, possibly sc *** into the playoffs, nd get eliminated in the first round, OR, trade kobe and all the baggage that goes with him, get some good young kids with a whole lot of potential, maybe some cap relief, and build towards winning a title somewhere down the track??

from my perspective, i have had to endure the rebuilding process over the last couple of years. whilst it is no fun seeing your team lose ALOT, you do get a certain level of satisfaction from watching players develop, and you hope that this development will lead to something bigger down the track. dont get me wrong, 2 months ago, i had the blazers penciled in for 4 titles over the next 12 to 15 years. now, i would be happy with one, and i am not even remotely confident of that one. so there are no certainties with the rebuilding process. but if, for example, your lakers could put together a team with bynum and horford in the front court, smith and walton on the wings and critteon a point - you wouldnt get excited about that??? man, that gives me a semi raja just thinking about it.

i hope you dont take this the wrong way. everyone sees things differently, maybe that is the case here too.

Another thing you're ignoring in an Atlanta scenario sloppy is the absolute necessity to have a 'star' in LA.
With the ticket prices, and celebrity fans there, they don't come in to watch Josh Smith.
Can you imagine Jack Nicholson standing up & cheering for Horford? Not unless he's standing beside Lebron, who's wearing purple & gold...

Phil Jackson and Kobe had their first run in and the season hasn't even started..

Jerry Buss riles Kobe up and leaves Phil Jackson to deal with the fallout... that's unacceptable......

Who *wouldn't* you trade for Kobe?>>

very intersesting indeed. i think bron bron and wade are on the money, but as good as duncan is, i would think he is too old. i would look at dwight too, but i have concerns over amares health so he is a 50/50. i would also throw in al jefferson too ;)

as the situation currently stands, i dont think the lakers can trade kobe for anything close to equal value. there are so few teams that kobe will actually go to, and if he does, then the trade will gut them, so they will be no good anyway. if the lakers wait till josh smith signs his extension, then maybe a trade with atlanta for josh smith, al horford and pieces would be decent for both teams. but i severly doubt kobe would want to go to atlanta so it would never happen anyway.

Errr... No way LA trades Kobe for Tracy McGrady. On his absolutely-effing-best day, T-Mac is Kobe-lite.

Put Kobe in the East, and with you, ne0n, sloppy & me, the team wins games. Simply put, guy can (and has) won games all by his lonesome.
On Dallas/Phoenix - both teams would jump all over having Kobe, as long as they don't have to gut their teams to do so - at the moment, they aren't over the hump. Doing something like getting Kobe may get them there.

More importantly, which teams do you think could win if Kobe was traded to them, keeping in mind they'd have to lose some good players to make the trade work. Apart from the top teams that don't need Kobe anyway, e.g Phoenix, SA, Dallas nothing jumps out at me. Ming and Kobe?

The list they came up with was rather short:
Lebron
D-Wade
Timmy

And 'maybe' Amare & Dwight.

ROFL!! Kobe's started moving personal things out of his locker....

That's the sort of things we do at work when we know we're not going to be around for much longer...

I also noticed Kobe was fairly casual about not suiting up with this 'injury'.... which is unlike him as he is such a competitor that he would play on one leg...

By Jerry Buss, coming out and saying what he said, Bryant's main priority will be to keep himself in showroom condition... what a disaster!

Stays this year and then unless Bynum puts up big numbers this season he will be traded next off season after demanding a trade and confirming he will opt out of his deal.

The chances of such a trade are VERY low.
