In fairness to David Rodan and him being a Power fan, I will not hold it against him that his fellow countrymen at the moment are in the process of acting like Mugabe, and ripping up the rule of law book when it comes to conducting their everyday business in Fiji. Then again, Carlton have been acting like that for years in the AFL, in fact, the AFL in it's own right under the leadership of their Fuhrer in Dumbo tend to make up the rules as they go along to help promote their interests in the stock market. Let's face it, when it comes to new teams entering the AFL, they tend to hand out lump sums of cash like banks do with a line of credit, then expect the teams to pay it back, even though they don't seem to listen much to what certain teams want by way of TV coverage or when they prefer to play their games for best exposure and times preferred for fans etc etc. Yep, looking forward to the SHOWDOWN between the Power and Crows first up in the NAB cup. The gloss of the rivalry has been diminished by the coporate bigwigs at AFL house once again. The fat four eyed sloth was seen brushing shoulders with many at Flemington on Tuesday. Gee, surely AFL clubs money aren't being invested in horses these days????

he can't state categorically he will only play for one club, that is influencing the draft and illegal. What carr did is say "Other clubs can draft me as long as they are happy with me living in adelaide." Now, to add to this Ben can only be drafted by approved clubs with a good history of alcohol and drug counselling etc, so immediately the pies and hawks were ruled out. His choices will be limited, and as fitz said, it will come down to who has earlier pick of the approved clubs.

why don't we just make a single Cousins thread instead of the 20 odd different ones we have going right now??

Yahoo! should consider a Ben Cousins specific forum...

Re:Why Cousins will be a Saint!!!! Reply to this message
Ive posted other things on this issue. I dont think the saints is the right place for him...think sydney or brisbane is a better option...but he wouldve had to nominate a club he wanted to go too or talked too, and the AFL would only allow him to continue to play etc etc if they felt that clubs was capable of accomadating him. On GF day this was discussed on the TV. I understand the draft but Josh Carr clearly stated he will not play for any other club that trys to draft him. Cousins can nominate but clearly state he wishes to play for the saints. other clubs can try to snare him but most clubs do whats best for the player and what he wants to do. the saints are meeting to discuss cousins. the board may disagree but that doesnt mean the lions will get him. melbourne, essendon, fremantle, port all are up before brisbane....port hasnt ruled cousins out, but they have said they arent too keen or going to go out of their way to get him. most teams in the november draft will snare youth in their first round picks. not many are goin to give them up for a player around 30 regardless of how good. players like cousins and carr and more than likely goin to head into the december draft and port will be hoping to pick carr up in the feb pre-season draft for nothing.

hhhmmm. interesting read but it doesn't link him to the Saints over the Lions...the AFL may ride rough over existing agreements with the AFLPA and ignore their drug code of conduct agreement etc but they cant override teh draft and it is basic maths and teh Lion's number comes before St.Kilda's.

What's more the Saints dont have proper facilities and their medical team are transient...the players are sick of the lack of proper medical facilities and conditioning facilities...not exactly the most professional place to conduct serious close medical monitoring (passable - but a temporary classroom behind the Frankston City Football Ground...??) whereas the Lions lead the way in medical sports facilities etc...Lexus Centre and the AIS have modelled their set ups on what the Lions have established up at the Gabba...

Ben's choice is simply 'footy? yes or no?' after that he goes where he's told.

Re:Why Cousins will be a Saint!!!! Reply to this message
The AFL have given Cousins an extension so he can nominate for the draft, but at the same time, St Kilda are having a meeting next week to do with the football departments submission to the board. I guess it basically means if the board chose to take Cousins on, he nominates for the draft, but if they dont, he will wait until the december draft. The fact is if the saints want cousins, then they will do deals with other clubs to snare him which im sure if Cousins says he wishes to play for St Kilda, most will accomadate that, whereas if they dont, then he will have to wait to december and that is where other clubs come into play.

Looks like the AFL has been aware all along of Cousins situation and dealings with St Kilda. They give him an extension, when really it is an extension in regards to the Saints having a meeting. Every other player has nominated.

Why Cousins will be a Saint!!!! Reply to this message
Before the AFL commission gave him the greenlight, i strictly remember that Cousins had to put forward his case to the AFL commission as to why he felt they should allow him to resume his AFL career. The AFL informed him that he would have to nominate a club of his choice before doing this so they could be given time to assess whether or not they were prepared to give him a lifeline. The decision handed down by the AFL to me gives off a distinct feeling of a deal has already been done, or it is just a case of a few formalities. WHy?

The AFL has granted the 30-year-old an extension until next Wednesday to nominate for the National Draft, which takes place on November 29.

Cousins has served a 12-month ban for drug use and will be eligible to be drafted for next season if he agrees to supply regular urine samples and submit to hair testing four times a year.

Cousins's manager and the AFL Players' Association have expressed concerns about the conditions, saying they are not aligned with the AFL's drugs policy.

But AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou says the conditions are not up for discussion.

"They are non-negotiable," he said.

"They are based on the best medical advice. It is very, very closely aligned with advice given by the medical experts and we've been relying on them because they've been treating Ben Cousins."

The AFL says Cousins will not be drug tested until after he is drafted by a club.

Cousins has been linked with both St Kilda and the Brisbane Lions, with both clubs confirming they are interested in having the former Eagles skipper on their books.

Today a spokesman for St Kilda said the club would decide whether to attempt to draft Cousins at its board meeting next week.

The spokesman said the board would consider a submission by the club's football department before making a decision.
