It would cost a lot more to prop up Fitzroy than it would West Sydney or the Gold Coast!
Fitzroy fans had well over a decade to get off their butts and save their club - they didn't and the club is dead, give it up!
The Lion logo wouldn't have stayed the same forever if it still belonged to Fitzroy, all clubs adapt to the changing demographics of society. If it was returing to the Bears logo, fine complain away, but it isn't, it is still a damn Lion. |

Better still maybe Fitzroy should be the 18th team in the AFL.
They can be based in Melbourne.
They can wear their original Jerseys and take back their Lions Logo.
It won't cost nearly as much for the AFL tp prop them up comoared to a second Sydney, or GC team.
Brisbane can wear the teddy bear. |

HA, HA, HA, HA.....
Further proof that Fitzroy are DEAD AND BURIED and the team up north NEVER HAD, NOR EVER WILL HAVE any 'real' relationship to the defunct entity!!!
Haven't laughed so much in years. Fitz_Muppet might have to change his name to Bris_Muppet just to keep it real.
Too funny, well done Brissie Bears for finally being honest. |

We've got some soft and cuddly Magpies at our place. They are wild, but we can hand feed them, rub their heads etc.
Still a lot tougher than Dale Thomas though! :P |

It is apparently designed to appeal to the younger fans, hence the resemblace to the Paddle Pop lion.
Kind of rivals the pre merger Teddy bear really.
all soft and cuddle |

It is a little picture that they put next to the name BRISBANE Lions, does it matter? Fitzroy is dead, Fitzroy fans are to blame. Now they think they can jump up and down about every minor thing Brisbane tries to do? What a load of carp!
Brissie bends over backwards to give the Fitzroy fans respect (it is mutually beneficial), but why would they take their advice on how to run a footy club? They've already fked up one side. |

| My Dad was a Fitzroy member and supporter and has been a Lions member since the Merger and he likes the new emblem as he believes if Fitzroy where still around they would have altered the logo as well to keep up with the modern game. He was consulted about the change and supported it so yes members where contacted. I am hopeing they finish bottom and the mighty Bombers win the flag |

doc I may be wrong, but I am fairly sure syndrome wasn't trolling, he does have a fitzroy tattoo you must remember, and he was there for the roys last game, flew all the way to perth for it..
The new emblem, taking all the legalities etc away from the arguement, is sh!t. It really is. All this bollocks about not being a team to mess with etc etc, it is like that stupid isnack 2.0, it is utter bollocks, and was probably chosen by some pencil-necks with names like Jefferson and Farquar on the basis that no-one hated it rather than people loving it. Now I ask ANY lions member on here if they were consulted as has been said by the club? |

its a 16 team comp going to 17 and then 18 teams ..... not a competition like soccer in europe

It is still a Lion on the colour scheme that they have worn in the last decade. Brisbane has had six different jerseys since the merger, and there was actually no Lion on the Brisbane Bears jerseys worn during the Heritage rounds.
IF Brisbane decided to revert to maroon jerseys with a gold and white V , with a white bear on the patch, with FFC on the back, then Fitzroy supporters would have a reason to complain.
And FYI, changing the Bomber is no different to changing the Lion or Hawk or Tiger, etc etc.
Embracing change is important esp for merchandise sales , but since you fail to acknowledge the need for a Collingwood away jersey , then I can see we agree to disagree over this |

Geez Chucker, you really think there is any comparison to Essendon, an existing club changing a logo, to Brisbane changing it's last link to a "Merged" club.
You must compare apples with oranges too. |

1. Fitzroy Football Club has ceased to exist in the AFL since 1997, and they are not coming back
2. Victorians upset with the direction of Brisbane , their "lack of respect" to Fitzroy and who want to "bang on about it" should refer to point 1.
3. It is still a Lion
And Syndrome, when the Essendon FC changed their bomber emblem to a B1 supersonic bomber on their jersey, was there a large outcry from the "traditional" supporters in Victoria??? |

Fitzroy football club is rightly outraged at the loss of their symbolic Lion.
And to add insult to injury the replacement looks more like the Paddle Pop lion than the majestic lion that was once their proud Logo.
The Fitroy football club are threatening legal action over the change that is a clear breach of the Fitzroy Brisbane bears merger agreement.
The clause reads that "Merged club will be the Fitzroy Lion in perpetuity"
Brisbane have showed contempt for the FFC by saying that they were "Banging on" about Clause A in section 7 but that clause "B" says that condition only exists for the first seven years of the "NEW" club.
However Brisbane were unable to produce a copy of "Clause B".
Whilst Brisbane have stated that they canvassed the supporter base in both Melbourne and Brisbane, no Melbourne members, fans, or club officials, have said that they were part of the decision.
It is now the lion used on all their merchandise and the club will not confirm or deny if it will be the motiff used on their jumpers.
Given that their home jumpers have changed their colours from the original, and now will probably change their Lion, how long before their song is changed too.
And that will spell the end for the "Bears and Fitzroy of old".
Vale Fitzroy Football Club.
You should never have surrendered to them.
Maybe the North Melbourne offer was a better deal.
Ross Oakley "Et tu Brute" It took 12 years but maybe now your Vile assination is complete.
All the Fitroy faithful should now rise and be heard. This outrage should not be allowed to go on without consequence. |
