And we can't forget that West is over 12 months younger then Mumford, had 2 more years of work at this level to improve his skills and once he gets a solid run in the seniors he will be great.
Mumford is a solid player around the ground but needs to improve his ruck skills which can let him down. West is the superior ruckman and I guess the Cats coaching staff saw him as the future of the club along with Simpson - they know the players better then we do. |

| the team has been watching his development for a while now. Finished 4th in the VFL b&f (2 votes behind 3rd and 11 behind 2nd). He can play as a tall fwd or back as well as ruck so I would expect to see him getting more game time next yr. He was kicked out of the rucking role in the VFL towards the end of the yr and played fwd so something to look fwd to seeing at senior level |

brownoz, you showed yet again how little you know about the GFC. Trent West is out best long term ruck prospect and he has been considered so since the day he stepped foot in the club. So try talking about things you actually know instead of speculating about stuff you don't.
You talk about the Swans opening up the check-book for the Hawks kids, look what they offered Mumford - it was originally a 3yr deal that he said no to. When they bumped it up to 4 he said yes, he has said that the money was a secondary issue and a bonus but knowing where he will be for the next 4 yrs was the main thing. Ablett, Selwood, Bartel etc are only on 3yr deals so the Club weren't going to give a rookie a 4 yr deal.
Good luck to Mumford in Sydney. He did some good things this yr but he still has a lot to learn and in all honesty not worth the money he is getting - not next yr anyway, in his 2nd, 3rd & 4th yrs he may well be. |

michelle the two young hawks asked to be traded after the swans opened their cheque books on em and offered them 3 years,on sydneys small ground both in and under types should thrive,i wish em both well but neither were in our best 22,at sydney i expect them to be first picked every week
with mumford he was clearly your best long term option in the ruck, for bomber to be so bliase knowing he will only be there 2 more years is poor form |

he he hee he heee ...
I hear that Visy and Swans have offered Bradshaw a 3 year deal and are VERY keen to gain his services.
Wasn't in my calculations but would have to think it's a good thing if he was to get in on the action in Sydney ... 2010 is looking better by the day ;) |

Hawks might be at 39 and counting down - this was in the Age today:
*The Sunday Age understands the Hawks' aggressive trading for Port Adelaide star midfielder Shaun Burgoyne had much to do with the uncertain futures of two of their top ball-winners - with some doubt also over whether midfielder Rick Ladson can return to his best after undergoing knee surgery after round 16.
Young could end up following ruckman Robert Campbell, who retired this season with a degenerative knee injury....
A Hawthorn trainer said during the week: "If there was no Young and Ladson again next year, we'd be trying to plug holes again like we were [in 2009]."*

| brownoz, if you want Tenace take the guy, but Kennedy & McGlynn are better players then Tenace and you traded them. Can't see Tenace getting a run in your midfield if those guys struggled to play senior games. |

UPDATE 3.07pm: THE Sydney Swans say they support the actions of Xavier College after their star recruit Daniel Hannebery was suspended following a muck-up day prank.
Hannebery is sports captain of the elite Melbourne boys' school and is touted as being in line for a great AFL career.
The midfielder was drafted by Sydney at pick number 30 in last year’s draft and played his first senior game against Carlton in July.
Hannebery was one of nine nine Year 12 students suspended yesterday for "anti-social" muck-up day behaviour, less than a year after celebrations left a student in hospital. |
