Re:HAWTHORN CHOKE Reply to this message
nye, I have a feeling Franklin has passed his prime - cost me loads of points and dollars in the supercoach waiting for him to pull his finger out.

Re:HAWTHORN CHOKE Reply to this message
Haha, I wouldn't be a fan if I didn't trust that the side could get their act together for next season.

Any side that can win a premiership, beating every other side along the way, and knocking off one of the best sides of the modern era in the decider, can't simply forget how to play.

I'm sure attitude had something to do with it, injuries also. I don't know, but there is always the chance of other problems behind closed doors too. The President being a tool can't help morale.

All of this has conspired to make 2009 a very bad year for the club.

If the Saints have proven one thing, it is that the 'premiership window' can actually be a lot wider than many believe.

Even if 2010 is a write off too, I have no doubt the Hawks will be a legitimate challenger again, at least once, before the likes of Hodge, Mitchell, Franklin, Rioli, Sewell, Lewis and Ellis pass their prime.

Re:HAWTHORN CHOKE Reply to this message
If it was a complacency thing GT, they'd have regrouped by now.

The fact of the matter was that during the pre-season they had all but 7 listed players injured. That causes an enormous problem in a sport that requires top level fitness to be competitive.

Injury concerns are now an old excuse, and the players have lost all confidence. Their problems have snowballed and they are now a team in real trouble.

Come September, the boys will have the chance to escape and regroup.

I liken it to a grand slam tennis match. The Hawks took the first set easily, but going down an early break in the second took some wind out of their sails - so they are headed for a 6-0 loss. They'll come out as good as ever to start the third. (I hope!). :)

Re:HAWTHORN CHOKE Reply to this message
... or they partied long and hard during October, November and December of '08 thinking that the next grand final was a walk in the park.

2010 they'll drop from the radar and with some soul searching may play some good footy again but with some good up and coming teams they'll just be another who played throughout the season without much glory and no Silverware.

Re:HAWTHORN CHOKE Reply to this message
When things are going well, it is amazing how niggles and injuries don't feel so bad. Quite a few Hawks have niggles at the moment, I guarantee they are feeling every bit of them too!

Maybe this Hawks team is the new Melbourne - flying high in even numbered years, sinking low in the odd ones!

Re:HAWTHORN CHOKE Reply to this message
choking still requires some effort on the chokees behalf, I don't think the Hawks have that in them atm.

Re:HAWTHORN CHOKE Reply to this message
On Saturday afternoon rbrownoze smashed his chrystal ball as his 2009 predictions became even further away from reality. 1. The Hawks to be back to back premiers in 2009. 2. Clarko to be coach of the year maybe the century. 3.Stewie Dew who played the greatest 3rd quarter in a grand final ever, to do it again. 4. Buddy the greatest ever to kick 100 + goals. 5. Roughie to kick 80 + goals and become the greatest centre half forward ever if he isnt already. 6. Rioli to win the 2009 Brownlow. 7. The family club women folk get judged by the country womens association as the greatest ever half time scone makers, sadly its all gone wrong.

Re:HAWTHORN CHOKE Reply to this message
Ok, I'm really looking forward to tonights game between the Hawks and Bulldogs, should be a beauty. I had an awful dream about it last night, but there is no way that'll come true - imagine the short-arz Doggies defence managing to hold our 'superstar' forwards to 4 points in a half of footy. Hahahaha, as if!

What can I say - I feel like a chick with a hangover, doing the undie-less, 6am walk of shame accross the uni campus! Everyone is looking at me and they all know I got pummelled Doggy style last night by 22 hungry men!

I feel so used!
