Winning 10 from 22 and making the 8 is crazy. What if the Hawks jag a decent month in Sept? We win the flag from 8 and with a 14-22 record!!!!!
It won't happen, but the point is that they have the chance to do it - and that is wrong.
Still, I'm not knocking back finals footy if they get in! |

Unbelievable, the Hawks needed 4 out of the 8 results to go their way - and they did! Stupid to think the Hawks could still make the 8, despite losing 12 games!!! Crazy and a blight on the system!
If the Hawks make it, great, but they won't do too much once there. |

There are such things as natural disasters, which have happened on this planet for millions of years. Things regrow, animals are reborn, everything eventually goes back to the way it was until it gets out of control, then mother nature steps in an evens up the ledger once more.
The problem faced with humanity is the greenies want to protect the environment, and allow nature to return to the way it was, and those who live amongst it want to be able to utilize the land to improve their standard of living. Then there are those who make the decisions who wish to make as much money out of each situation to benefit their lives.
Greenies cause fires by trying to protect the environment within communities and populated areas, by trying to stop people clearing the land, chopping down trees, and basically doing as they please to protect their property and homes in case of fire. The greenies efforts enhance the danger to certain people in certain areas. The people who live within high risk areas cause fires by their negligence, and also abundance of fuel in and around their homes.
When a natural fire oocurs, it turns into a catastrophe caused by people. We add to a fire to make it become a firestorm.
Good luck through summer nikkihawk. It isnt easy to live amongst the gum trees. |

Good to hear Nikki ... hatchet is buried.
I'm a member of FESA and know exactly where it is you are coming from. Bloody greenies have got to realise that before white man inhabited our country fires that where started weren't extinguished by firefighters, water bombers or back burning. They where put out when they ran their course and after cleaning up ALL the undergrowth and fuel.
Controlled burns are good but don't do half the job so it's up to individuals to keep their immediate area fuel free and safe.
Glad you are doing the righty and hope you stay safe this fire season. |

A look to the future this week. Bailey and Renouf in the ruck and 4 first year players in Milne, Shoenmakers, Shiels and Savage all there too.
Quite an exciting time, and we have 4 players born in the 90's, another is an emergency. We already had the youngest (if not THE youngest, damn close) side going around, now we're blooding all these pups. I'm not sure how many debutants we've had this year, but it'd have to be close to a record for a premier.
By my count, it would be around 7. |

Just reading thru the threads gt,
sure no problem in regards to buring the hatchet,
havent been here much of late too much going on my back yard in regards to the fires and the court procedings and the bloody greenies who IMO have alot answer for....
to be worried about one or two differences of opinions on footy,
life is too short and unpredictable to get all wound up over a message board and its posts...
On that note i'm off to clear out some undergrowth on the property as we are told to start now as they say this season will be worse than the last.......Habitat is what the greenies call it BTW i call it Fuel......and in many cases last year a death sentance...farkin greenies.... |

THE RETURN from injury of Max Bailey and the blooding of yet another debutant dominate team selection at Hawthorn as the reigning premier prepares its last-ditch bid for September.
The Hawks, needing to win their final two games of the year to be any chance of making the finals, have made three changes for Saturday night's clash with Richmond at the MCG.
Bailey's recall to the senior side after a three-year absence is the feel-good story for Alastair Clarkson's men.
Riley Milne, a promising key defender from the club's rookie list, and Beau Dowler are the other inclusions for the Hawks who have again had to cover casualties.
Premiership big man Robbie Campbell will miss with a finger injury and Jarryd Morton a tight hamstring while Simon Taylor will play in the VFL.
However, the disappointment of Campbell and Morton's injuries have been somewhat offset by Bailey's long-awaited comeback.
The 22-year-old, taken at No.18 in the 2005 NAB AFL Draft, has managed just four senior games in almost four seasons.
His last AFL match was back in round 21, 2006 his first year at the club.
Two knee reconstructions have sidelined him for much of the past three years but he returned to the lower level mid-year and has gradually built up his fitness and form.
Hawthorn football manager Mark Evans said Bailey's return on Saturday would be a terrific day for the club. |

Chucker, the Storm had to put a team together from has beens, bloke unwanted by their clubs and a few talented youngsters looking for a break.
I have a copy of RLW from pre-season '98 and it says the Storm will struggle to win games as they have very little depth and no real 'star power'.
Turns out the side finished 3rd and many of the names they recruited became champs.
Only Lazarus and Nikau had any real experience and reputation.
At the time, Kimmorley and Hill were nobodies from the Hunter Mariners, Howe was a promising big bloke from the Reds, his team mate Geyer was not really rated by the Storm, but they gave him a shot. Another Red, Kearns had real potential.
Ross was an unspectacular fullback that wasn't wanted by anyone, Bai was a PNG winger getting no ball out wide for the Gold Coast and the vast majority of the rest of the list was unknown to anyone but their parents.
The fact that they won their first 4 games, finished 3rd on debut and won the premiership in their second season makes their recruitment look like it was gifted to them, but hindsight is 20/20 and the Storm, when they ran on for their first game, was anything but a team of champions! |

| nah i agree to a point nye bout ur injury problems. but for 15 out of the 20 weeks so far ur team has had a pretty decent offering of last years team on the field. last year they had there injuries too, but it didnt matter as u won 20/25 u say. roughhead only got injured last week, so u cant really say ur seasons a failure due to him being out, itwas over before that. maybe teams have figured out the zoning tactics used to great effect last year. all my point is, is that how can u say injuries are the sole or main reason, when the cats have been decimated and have only lost 3 games thus far. bear in mind collingwood won a few games earlier in the year with didak, medhurst, thomas, croad, shaw all out in the same games, and the hawks lose to a very undermanned saints team in launceston! buddy played that game, so did rough head, so did hodge, so did ryoli, and they got spanked. i expect them to be back next year after this major wake up call, but the players have been exposed more than the injuries being the problem this year |

but, with no draft, look at the list the Storm got in the first year ( essentially a pack of test players)
the GC isnt going to get anywhere near the calibre of experienced players. |

Chucker, I did say who left to go to Hawks, Saints or Cats - so Caracella and Bolton are not in that list. Gram is one to add though.
I HATE the NRL system though, every side loses 6 or 7 players a year - there is no loyalty and it 5hits me having so many players come and go.
You could make a premiership side out of players that have left the Storm in the past 2.5 seasons. |

Jason Gram
Craig Bolton
Blake Caracella
are others who left the Lions to seek more chances, and Richard Hadley who left for a change of fortune
the major problem with the draft system is that if a player retires early with injury or retirement eg Leppa, Lappin, Voss, the club has to wait in line to recruit replacements.
NRL has no draft, yet it will be likely that every club will have played finals footy within 2007-9.
Bulldogs got the wooden spoon in 2008, signed up a heap of new recruits, and now are second in the 2009.
That just cant happen in the AFL. IF a club drafts badly in one season, they can suffer for a decade. |

| gilham and guerra werent getting enough game time at port...especially gilham..much like tom harley years back...as for dew..after 2004..i think he kind of slackened off...too many cream cakes etc etc....lol plus his mcleod daughters girlfriend seemed to take his focus away from footy a bit...cant blame him for that...he went through a patch of being out of sorts and not knowing whether or not he wanted to play afl. he quit footy for a year...and clarko got him out of retirement and well...a great story in the end. players have left port and done well..some havent...and port has recruited players who have performed better at port than elsewhere..all part of the ever changing face of the AFL...some clubs are good with recruitment, good with development and have the right people at their clubs who do their jobs well. then there are some who have no idea, ruin players careers or just dont seem to get the best out of them. but that has a lot to do with the faith some clubs put in various coaches. richmond, melbourne and fremantle i think have struggled based on the coaching staff they have had over the years. |

Passed on picks? Port and Bris wouldn't have had any picks worth passing on - and how many Lions or Port players from that period left those sides for a crack elsewhere and went to Hawks, Saints or Cats? I can think of B.Voss.
Sure, the Hawks have Gilham, Dew and Guerra from Port, but none of those left due to Port's dominance of 02-04 keeping them from the side.
Hawks can thank Freo for being morons for securing the #1 pick that got us Hodge. |

| yeah but you will find that brisbane and port had top squads...and passed on certain picks at certain times..when you have the luxury of a full list...and players dont get much game time or cant get in the team, you will see delistings of players that couldve ended up being top players. port use to recruit players to fill gaps where players retired or some had injuries. the lions much the same. however, these days, all clubs do all they can to get what they can, and with the GC and west syd coming in...some clubs are really going to suffer big time when the stocks dry up. i firmly believe the AFL will overhaul the draft system so that being at the bottom doesnt make you a certainty to get the best draft picks. |

Interesting theory. Cats had a lot of F/S picks and very few low finishes, Hawks had 2 seasons in the bottom 4 (2001 to 2005) - less than Freo, Richmond, Bullies, Carlton, St Kilda and Essendon, equal to Collingwood.
Besides, even if Port and Brisbane hadn't done so well, other teams would have - somebody has to finish on top or win the flag! And the Hawks, Cats and Saints were not in a position to do so. |
