Mighty - you need to catch up old son - a midfield no longer simply has 3 players - it is made up of anywhere from 8 to 12

Not such a silly loss. Final eight teams can't afford silly losses. That's why I believe your best hopes are to finish as high as sixth at best, sorry Murf.

Re:Lions Season Over. Reply to this message
absolutely lovin tiger - The Lions are in teh box seat. One silly loss from 5th position against a pretty average outfit isn't anything to worry about - we still seem to have the Coleman stitched up with Brown being 'double teamed' out of the game...hhhmmm...how does that work ?

Bradshaw is still getting back into attacking footy after nearly losing his hand against the Saints and having to plug gaps - he'll be firing again and taking the 3rd and 4th defended off Brown which should even things up again.

Plus - our very very young midfield (most of which have spent 2008 on half back/ half fwd or on low rotaion cycles off the bench) are going to have to use this season as a measure of what is required at the business end of the season after being a year-long midfielder.

There are so many positives and so much value for money for Lions supporters that when I hear the weak minded whinging that reguritates from the sooky and ill-informed I get a touch annoyed.

The Lions are a genuine chance this year - and a definite likelihood in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013...Our home ground is now a genuine GABBATOIR again.

Re:Lions Season Over. Reply to this message
Change for the sake of change is not necessarily positive. But changes made to create a different environment of thinking may lead to a more positive outlook or culture, which can only be fundamentally team building.

Re:Lions Season Over. Reply to this message
Brennan hardly hit him.. Carr took a dive, and it was really poor acting on his behalf.. Reminded me of when Wakelin took the dive when BBB took the fresh air swing at him last year
And Bishop knew he was beaten, but went for the leap anyway. He had no right to do that. Bishop could have stopped and braced for impact instead of accelerating and going for the leap. Daniel Rich was the catalyst for the Brisbane 3rd quarter comeback, and it was a cheap deliberate shot at Brisbane's playmaker.

Re:Lions Season Over. Reply to this message
Being young and inexperienced can sometimes be an advantage. They don't have to "unlearn" bad habits. So as an ardent Richmond supporter with a soft spot for the Lions, I see the value of the Lions having a young team, Fitzy. Give them time, Lions supporters, be patient. You have a greater chance of success with a mix of young players and old stalwarts than banking on the old tried and true stayers.

one that splits the guys head open, you would think it's worse than a punch and should get 6 minimum.

Re:Lions Season Over. Reply to this message
chucker I don't agree, from what I saw of it it looked like the Port player turned at the last second to protected himself (no law against that)after he realised he could not make the contest. He was in the air and couldn't do much about it, i think Heath Shaw did a similar thing a few weeks back and wasn't cited for review.

Re:Lions Season Over. Reply to this message
mighty, that is absolute bull****
Bishop had no intention of going for the ball. He turned his head, took his eyes off the ball and jumped . To hit an 18 yr guy who is 6 inches shorter and 10 kg lighter when he is not looking is just gutless. The contact was avoidable , late and reckless and he should get 4 weeks.
The player going for the ball needs to be protected against dogs like that - that was straight out of the 70s
IF Maxwell got 4 weeks for a decent hip and shoulder that was unintentionally high, then Bishop should get the same. It was only dumb luck that Rich didnt sustain a serious injury.
And Brennan's headbutt was dumb, but totally out of character . Brennan has improved markedly this season and is doing good stuff most weeks - his effort against Carlton was standout, and he continues to improve. He will be missed by Brisbane.

Re:Lions Season Over. Reply to this message
chucker - also as many in the media have pointed out ...Port blocked up the spaces in defense stopping Bradshaw and Brown getting the ball. (no mention of anyone else being stopped cos there ain't any!)

Re:Lions Season Over. Reply to this message
If Bishop didn't charge Rich but it was someone like Brown would people even be discussing it? It was part of a marking contest, just 2 players committed at going for the ball. Brennan knew what he was doing when he headbutted the guy, obviously he has been watching too much Dan Kerr footage

Re:Lions Season Over. Reply to this message
Mighty,
if you are a forward and you know if the ball is locked up, there is an 80% chance that the opposition are going to clear the ball, it will change the way you attack the ball , and the quality of the ball delivered was far bettr for Port - they won the clearances and delivered it straight to the forwards whereas most of Brisbane's forward entries came off the rebound in defence, and Port were able to run back in numbers.
Earlier in the year, Port smashed the Crows in a similar manner in the centre clearances, and beat them easily.
The relevant question is what happened to that Port intensity and attack of the ball in the eight or so rounds in between.

Re:Lions Season Over. Reply to this message
chucker, big difference between the 2. The hit on Rich didn't look good but at first but he was comiitted to the contest before the mark was taken. Brennan on the other hand is just a tosser.
