since people don't seem to aware of what is in the AFL tv deal, this is part of the contractual obligations that were signed:
*All matches involving the Adelaide Crows, Brisbane Lions, Fremantle, Port Adelaide, Sydney Swans and West Coast Eagles will be broadcast on free-to-air television in their home markets either live or on a variable delay;*
so if you live in NSW or WA, tomorrow you are getting the match that involves your local team. QLD gets the match showing the nearest team, ie Swans. You may not support the local side, but the chances are there is more support in NSW for the Swans then there is for the Saints or Cats.
And regarding the use of ONE HD, this is the rules and while the main subject of the info is the Olympics the same rules apply for the AFL:
*In letters aired on the ABCâs Media Watch program last night, Seven spokesperson Simon Francis claimed the network would have âjumped head first into multi-channelling the Olympic Gamesâ if it was granted temporary relief from anti-siphoning laws.
The laws are designed to ensure that important sporting events such as the Olympic Games, AFL and rugby union test matches are shown on free-to-air, analogue channels first.
This effectively means the events canât be shown on standard or high definition TV streams unless they appear simultaneously on the free analogue channel....
''Both the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, have earmarked a review of the current anti-siphoning arrangements.
âThe capacity for free-to-air broadcasters to show anti-siphoning listed sports on their digital multi-channels is an issue that will be discussed in the 2009 review,â said Conroy.
Added Donald Robertson, media manager at ACMA: âThe review is expected to take into account the changes brought about by emerging digital platforms.â*
if you don't like the rules stiff sh! ... |

| Channel 7 or in our area its called Prime aren't just the only station to blame for non telecast of "LIVE" A.F.L. matches, Channel 10 also televises games as well. What makes me disappointed is that in conjunction with both the A.F.L. & the TV stations knew that this was going to be blockbuster well over a month ago or more, yet new digital channels like One HD could've easily have telecasted this game, yet they decide to televise mostly American sport. To play such a blockbuster of a game late at nite is poor as the scores are already known & spoils the game for the home viewer. As for watching a game "LIVE" I'd be happy to do that if tickets weren't so expensive, last time I went to a Swans game it was like $45 a ticket & thats not even the best seat in the crowd. |

live in adelaide...have foxtel....channel 7 had the game on at 8.30....
unfortunately i checked the teams of collingwood and essendon prior to walking out the door at around 7.30pm to go to the local to have a few and watch the game. after seeing demetriou talk up the AFL game in sydney, i kind of felt it my duty to raise my glass to one of the big BLOCKBUSTERS of the year in bombers v pies clash....90,000 people maybe was the call....
ahem....at around 7.15 when checking the teams to my amazement the game was already on......WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!
so i put foxtel on.....errrrrrrr......not on there....so when i did get to the local.....errrrrrrrrrrrrr r......not on there.......oh but its on at 8.30
shssssssssssssssssssssh.. ......no one use their mobiles, answer them, lock all the doors...we dont someone to know the score and blurt it out during the game......well half way thru the 3rd term, a young girl and her *** gy boyfriend walked in and she said, "I hate collingwood..they sux..a guy turned and asked whys that??>..she duly said cos i had the bombers in my tips and collingwood won......."
and silence prevailed as a whole hotel was about to beat her *** gy boyfriend senseless, tear her clothes off and have fun on the 8 ball table for the rest of the night....she apologized for her foot in mouth disease and left with her virginity still in tact, but a disgruntled bunch of patrons ended up arguin amongst themselves and the odd left jab was thrown....
good on ya channel 7 and praise to demetriou....the aussie pub is still bursting at the seams and violence is amongst us all thanks to your majesty |

Boomer i find it funny that you call televison networks "bloody Idiots" and presume to know what is a "ratings Booster".....
I love the footy dont get me wrong,
BUT not everyone follows the game,
there are people who believe it or not dislike it and if had the choice would not have it on tv..
So its not all about the "footy" you bloody idiot...lol..
Like it or not the tv coverage in recent years has been the best its ever been RARELY do you miss a game and big deal if its delayed, at least you get to see it...
Might i add when i was growing up we were lucky to see the replay on abc when we got home from the game, dependng on travel time and only then was it snippits of the game not a full replay..
We have more than enough footy shows mid week,
we have more than enough footy shows on the weekends,
we have full games televised friday nights,
saturdays and sundays,
sometimes sat night,
and we also have the option of pay tv.....
But i spose some people are never happy are they...lol |

You do realise that both 7 & 10 work with the AFL and require the permission of the AFL to change the broadcasts if they want to show a game live. There was a game last yr on a Sat night that looked like it would be a sellout, 10 tried contacting the AFL during the week and said they needed a reply by close of business Wed to know if they could show the match live, they still had no contact by the Thursday so went with original planning, which meant a delayed telecast. The reason they needed to know early in the week was to work out programming, and who would be required to work that night because you can't exactly tell someone on their way to the office Sat afternoon to not come in. The networks need to know in advance if they are able to show a game live, which will only occur if its a sell out - so instead of laying the blame only at the feet of the networks, look at who else is involved.
Some people are worse then the Olympic people were last yr and they were pathetic, couldn't explain a thing to them about the contracts and broadcasting obligations because they wouldn't listen and people still don't get it now. |

| But you want to know the good thing? Channel 7 will reprogram the whole of Tuesday, just so they can telecast Michael Jacksons funeral. To think they tell us that the footy telecasts are set pror to the seaon and they can`t change their programming. What do they take us for, Bloody Idiots? NO Channel 7 you are the bloody idiots as this would have been a perfect ratings boost. |

Richo,
I absolutely refuse to pay $30 to go and sit on the hill at Carrara to watch Richmond v Adelaide when you need binoculars to see the players and esp with Bundy rum cans at $8 each .
And THAT my dear chucker is the main reason why 7 will not show Live games in your respective states.
$8 dollars you guys have it cheap we pay $9 |

We do the exact same nik, cant remember the last time we had it on free to air actually..love everything fox has to offer..
For those who say they cant afford it..
One less packet of smokes per week will save you $50 a month.
One less bought lunch at work once per week saves you around $40 a month.
Thats around a $90 a month saving..
Hmmmm, what could that $90 a month get that you just saved yourself?????? |

gees a bookie & now a spruiker for foxtel Nikki?
yes we've foxtel as well and hardly ever watch FTA tele & ya right you can watch just about anything you desire. Turned on World movies the other night & a bloke was giving himself head- with a happy ending , then his boyfriend walked in and they APPARENTLY WENT FOR IT-BIG TIME. I say apparently cause i got the f@rk out of there , my wife just sat there giggling to yourself about how i couldn't handle a little bit of man on man action. Not that she's into it either of course , just enjoyed me squirming.
but yeah would be lost without foxtel- except World movies when they state this film MAY contain sexually explicit scenes... maybe?? hello , didn't they watch it first??lol |

ok channel 7
we are sick of waiting until midnight to view the great games every week, or not seeing them at all.
every a.f.l. fan who lives in queensland deserves to see the two top clubs clash.
the geelong-st.kilda game will be fantastic,
come on, telecast it on so all of us poor queenslanders can watch! |
