The Port Adelaide Football Club, in effect, was a reverse-merger. From one club were created two entities. One to join the AFL, and another to retain and continue in the SANFL. The AFL entity was renamed "Power", wearing black, teal, white, and silver colours. The SANFL entity was re-named as the "Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club".
can u please stop changing stories .. so which is it??
besides the premierships i nteh SANFL do not count in the VFL/AFL history |

The Port Adelaide Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) was decommissioned in 2004 and replaced with a new high salinity treatment plant at Bolivar as part of our program to improve the performance of our metropolitan treatment plants and achieve improved water quality discharges to Gulf St Vincent.
The redundant Port Adelaide infrastructure occupies about five hectares at West Lakes. This site includes buildings and wastewater treatment structures. Three site buildings are listed as Local Heritage Places by Charles Sturt Council and a heritage garden is also located in the general vicinity of the heritage buildings.
We are undertaking an environmental assessment to determine the condition of the land and this will help establish acceptable options for future land use. Further decisions on the potential for future site uses will be based on the outcomes of those investigations.
SA Water will retain a portion of the land on which the relift pump station stands and hold an easement over the parts of the site which contain incoming wastewater mains and part of the main to Bolivar.
It was meant to be Port's new home.
And the Hawks jumper would go very well in with the theme |

| so the team that entered the AFL is the original Port Adelaide Magpies okay...they other team in the SANFL was formed in 1997...so that is why the team in the AFL keeps hold of its tradition...premierships etc etc...and remember....all australian champion...we werent apart of your poxy VFL...our league was and always has been just as strong until the VFL wanted to expand and "invited" SA clubs to enter...why?? cos the best players around the country were getting poached by vic clubs..and many others wanted to play their cos of the wages...aussie rules was competiting against rugby in nsw...the fact is...port adelaide played victorian clubs and beat them...but im sure some are going to say oh...that was in the old days...but it seems collingwood dont mind reaching back into the archives to gather some history, much like all vic clubs these days cos there aint many left that can boast being premiers in the AFL...we havent been in the league that long, and we dont have fark all money...yet we aint done that bad at all...couldve done better...but im sure in time we will be back on top and rubbing your faces in it again...the difference with port is..we dont ask for support from our rivals in the crows..however...when u bag a vic team on here, even collingwood, you lot join forces to back up your dismal clubs...you have selective draws each year to benefit your coffers, if anything...change the league back to the VFL...or do away with everyone's history all together in all leagues, and start it from when west coast and brisbane entered it...those at the top like to call it the AFL. A national competition, and those who go for *** py vic clubs that cant win anything want to say it is an extension of the VFL, then claim their history, but deny anyone else of theirs????? |

certainly mighty, no one should forget the past but the way yarz goes on the past seems the most important thing to him..
i was just trying to say both past and future are important but the now and future are much more of a concern.
put it this way mighty if you and all collingwood people, players, club employees etc spent their time consumed by collingwoods past and history, how would that progress them for the future. |

Because Brittania's colors of blue and white with a scarlet sash were similar to Footscray's, the new Collingwood team had to change and they opted for black and white vertical stripes on the suggestion of William Crawley, a member who had been impressed by the then black and white colors of the SA inter-colonial team. He also suggested the ``Magpies'' nickname which has become synonymous with the club from its very first game.
Collingwood played its first game as a full-fledged member of the VFA on May 7, 1892 against Carlton and lost by two goals to three. It was the beginning of one of Australian sport's longest running, and strongest, rivalries.
see yarz even back then you couldn't just start up in some one elses colours, btw did you notice the date of when WE started in Black and White? |

The PAMFC and the PAFC (Power) would therefore be able share the statistical history of the former-PAFC from 1870 to 1996, even though though they are both separate clubs.
Stephen Williams was appointed coach of the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club when John Cahill stepped aside mid-season in 1996 to concentrate solely on his job as coach of the Port Adelaide Football Club that had joined the AFL. In keeping with tradition, Steven guided the club to three more premierships (1 in 1996 as the previous PAFC + 2 with the PAMFC) before announcing his resignation at the end of the 2003 season. In 2003 Brett Ebert created history by becoming the first son of a Magarey Medallist to also claim the coveted award.
2005 saw club legend John Cahill return to coach the Magpies for 1 year, leading the Club to finish in 3rd position and really set the Club up for an exciting and successful future once again. Recruit Jeremy Clayton dominated the competition until a devastating ruptured spleen in the Qualifying Final victory over the Eagles ended his season and meant that he had to watch from his hospital bed as he took out the 2005 Magarey Medal. In 2006 Tim Ginever, who was Cahill’s assistant in 2005, took over the reins as senior coach together with the appointment of Mark Clayton as the new Club Captain.

The Port Adelaide Football Club was first founded on 20 April 1870, and played its first match on 24 May at Buck's Flat in Glanville[2] (in comparison, Manchester United was founded in 1878, and the sport of basketball invented in 1891). Based in the north-western suburbs of Adelaide, its traditional supporter base is among the working-class residents of Port Adelaide and its surrounding areas; a strong rivalry naturally ensued with clubs of the wealthier suburbs such as Norwood and Glenelg.
In 1877, Port Adelaide was a founding member of the South Australian Football Association (later renamed the SANFL); it won its first premiership in 1884. Its colours and mascot changed several times in the early years; shortly after the turn of the century, it had settled on a distinctive "prison bar" strip in black and white, with the nickname "the Magpies". Its 1914 team went through the season undefeated, and then defeated Victorian champions Carlton in a match mooted as deciding that year's "Champions of Australia".[3] In the 1950s under coach Fos Williams, the club was exceptionally dominant in the league, winning seven premierships, including six in a row.[1]
Over the twentieth century, the Victorian Football League became richer than its interstate counterparts, and consequently the quality of its players and play increased. Port Adelaide's dominance of the SANFL led to frequent calls, of varying degrees of seriousness, for it to join the VFL. The latter expanded into Perth, Sydney and Brisbane over the 1980s, and after it renamed itself the Australian Football League in 1989, Port Adelaide reached an agreement to join.[4]

| The Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club was established in 1997 after the original Port Adelaide Football Club won a license to enter the AFL (Australian Football League). From that decision, two clubs were established, allowing one entity (PAFC Power) to play in the AFL competition, and another (PAMFC) to continue the Magpies presence in the SANFL. The PAMFC has added on 2 premierships in that time, to take the club's overall tally to 36. [1] |

| of course it is a different team...im not disputing that...hey...i didnt make the rules...but the club that went into the AFL was the Port Adelaide FC who at the time were the Port Adelaide Magpies in the SANFL. However, the team that entered had to change their name cos of Collingwood along with their colours, they did their best to keep with some sort of tradition. Part of the deal was that they continue to keep a team in the SANFL called the Port Adelaide Magpies with its traditonal emblem and colours. This was to continue the traditons of the SANFL and continue the rivalries that exist within the league. It is not a case that Port Power just popped up, and the team winning all the premierships in the SANFL was the Port Adelaide Magpies before a team entered the AFL. So when Geelong, Collingwood, Essendon and Carlton played exhibition games prior to Port Power entering, they werent playing the team being formed going in, but the team left behind in the SANFL??? I supported the Port Adelaide FC called the magpies in the SANFL, and that club made a bid to enter the VFL/AFL...when it was finally given a licence, it had to change its name, colours, logo and board. It also had to maintain a team in the SANFL which was already in place. That is the Port Adelaide Magpies. That is not Port Adelaide Football Club est 1870 nicknamed the Power. Port Adelaide Magpies est 1997 |

chucker - I never said that if a team moved home grounds they are a different team. I was saying the opposite - that Sydney is still South Melbourne, Bulldogs are Footscray and North are the Roos which were North.
Where did I ever say that if a team moved home grounds they are a different club? |

Brat,
it is simple
The club known as the Swans moved base from Melbourne to Sydney. They are still the Swans.
The Bulldogs still played and trained as the Bulldogs in the same area, just took away the Footscray name. Ditto for the Kangaroos
So , if the Power moves to Adelaide oval, does that make them a different team. And were the Port Magpies based at AAMi stadium in 1920??? If they moved home grounds, by your logic, they are a different club?? |

Mighty, when port win a game that they trailed in their "fans" say.."Ah yes, this is the true 140 years of port tradition"
When they lose the "fans" say "Leave us alone, we've only been around since 1997"..
The result of each game determines ports history as you well know..
And yarz, how many times do you need to be told..
THE AFL IS AN EXTENSION OF THE VFL..
THE AFL IS NOT AN EXTENSION OF THE SANFL. |
