Re:Are Collingwood the real deal? Reply to this message
This argument is tedious
It is obvious , as a neutral bystander , that

1. Collingwood has first pick on black and white jersey, and that any Port supporter/ administrator who feels otherwise should harden up and shut up

2. Collingwood , with every other AFL team, should have a home jersey and away jersey, and any Pies supporter/ administrator who feels otherwise should harden up and shut up

now that I have pulled the pin on that little grenade, I bid you all a warm farewell

Re:Are Collingwood the real deal? Reply to this message
was a financial crisis when the sanfl werent prepared to give us a better deal, as with the afl..they got $3.5 million..and there is no recession so things arent bleak...coach situation settled...and reasonable run home...they arent playing that bad...up and down, but when they get it right, they look the goods to make a run at the finals..only out on percentage..with players to come back in that does leave a gap here and there...i think they need some changes for next year, and im guessing williams will turn things around. he has already announced he wants to bring in some new faces at the club. he is a port man and if anything, family tradition wont allow him to walk away...he holds the williams name so for him he will tough it out...something he was good at as a football and while the collingwood faithful like the guy so much as well as other clubs....he'll take a pay cut..the club have debt, but they have money to work with as well..even when your in debt..you still have to spend money..on on their budget forecasts..the club is limited in its marketing and promoting areas..if anything..they should rip the scarf off of mike rann's neck...when politicians pop up at certain clubs for media attention..a lot of fans dont like it...why they ever entertain that twit down there is beyond me..kennett at least has some sort of charisma..even though it is rather scarce at times..but he got the hawks up and running again..rann should be helping ports move to adelaide oval..instead he's shacking hands with the sanfl for his re-election prospects...hmmm..crows supporters have money...rann likes to walk about norwood...stonyfell..kens ingston etc etc..

"rose pink outfit with white knickerbockers"
------------------------- -----------------------

the way they been playing from the 07 granny onwards suggests they might like to revisit the pink option.

Re:Are Collingwood the real deal? Reply to this message
for the sake of the argument we take it that the Power have existed since 1870. As Collingwood fans would know since 1892 we have worn the Black & White stripes into battle on all but a single occasion (1982 Escort Cup v Swan Districts). The same cannot be said about Port Adelaide.

When the Port Adelaide Football Club was formed their first jumper was navy blue and white horizontal stripes (much like the old Geelong at the time), brown and light blue then light blue and rose followed. The jumper most used in those early days was Magenta and blue (not too dissimilar to Port Melbourne)

How did they get from magenta and blue to black and white?

In those days the jumpers were sent out from England and the quality of the materials used varied greatly. During the 1906 season it was found that the colours would run when washed.
Rather than send for more jumpers, which was very costly, a cheaper, local alternative was sought. Black & White was cheap, easier to maintain and replace and could be sourced locally.
The design of the jumper was in keeping with the areas maritime roots. The horizontal and 6 vertical stripes represent the main docks of the Port.

Through the years however the jumpers still evolved. For a period during the1930's the jumper featured four vertical stripes on the front and in the 1950'sPort Adelaide's famous coach, Fos Williams, so loved the Collingwood design, it was adopted as the club jumper. A picture of the premiership side in those jumpers hangs on the wall in the front bar of The Prince of Wales hotel. (The Port Adelaide Magpies own this pub).

In 1903, Port Adelaide took to the field in the famous black and white for the first time as they were having trouble finding the appropriate dye for its magenta guernseys

In 1877 however, Port Adelaide joined seven other local clubs and formed the South Australian Football Association, the first org *** ation of its type in Australia. It competed its first few seasons wearing a rose pink outfit with white knickerbockers. The club initially enjoyed modest success, but did not win a premiership until 1884. By this time the outfit had changed to magenta with navy knickerbockers.

"Bolivia could do with a team .... make the game international!"

No Bl00dy way!!!!! their jumpers would be red yellow and green based on their flag.
That would be worse than port Adelaide jumpers

From its foundation in 1870 to 1996, the club representing Port Adelaide competed in the SANFL as the "Port Adelaide Football Club". Over the years, it has had many nicknames, including: the *** ledivers, Seaside Men, Seasiders, Mudholians, Dustholians and Magentas, before finally settling on Magpies in 1902

haha cokc divers!

"Yarz, it is only a technical point in the contracts that say which port is which. The Port magpies and all thier history belongs in the SANFL. Of course melbourne clubs can claim there history in the VFL, without the VFL the AFL would not exist."

BUt if they want to include the SANFL then I am sure the meblourne teams could use their premierships from the VFA (before 1897 - creation of the VFL which then changed names in 1990 to become the AFL)

adrian, I fully understand that you need to keep looking ahead more than you look back, not many people walk into poles if the look ahead.

Yarz, it is only a technical point in the contracts that say which port is which. The Port magpies and all thier history belongs in the SANFL. Of course melbourne clubs can claim there history in the VFL, without the VFL the AFL would not exist.
