Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
I like how its always the umpires fault, or that players were injured as the excuses brownoz uses when the Hawks lose.

And as for Rioli been the best player this yr, the kid no one can stop. In rnd 1 against the Cats he was kept to 10 disposals and 1 goal, so I would say he got beaten that night quite easily.

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
well nye a lesser team would have lost by 10 goals we had 1 bloke out unable to return and 3 blokes running on one leg,was proud of the boys but disappointed the game tarnished by home town umpiring

Damn, it's back. Nice to see you haven't changed Browny - I thought the worst part of our loss last week was that the umpiring was entirely in our favour! We got the rub of the green, and still got smashed by one of the games also-rans!

Well , given a choice of going to school or spending time with brownoz, it is not surprising why the kid prefers school

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
whats that work out to be 44 wins from 88 games.. to me that seems easy maths & this season you're tracking for about 50% win -loss record as well.

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
sorry to go missing ppl but it is school holidays i managed to get a few days off and took my kids away, yes i have a life

on topic i like anyone saw the umpiring injustices the hawks endured against the eagles to clarko's credit he didnt utter a word about it and just focused on next week

i read mike sheanan's report stating its an indictment to have a 19 year old as our most important player, well if this is true how come none of the 15 teams can stop this 19 year old rioli the competitions best this year no doubt

looking forward to this week with williams out gilham should come back and strengthen our back and i guess some we will eventually have more than 23 years blokes to choose a 22 man team from, under the circumstances clarko should be in line for coach of the year
your thoughts

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
Nah, we've built up the side well. From third last in 05 (5 wins), to 11th in 06 (9 wins), to 5th in 07 (13 wins) and then 1st in 08 (17 wins). That is 4 wins better every season.

This is the 'anomaly' season I think. We have talent all over the field that matches anything we boasted in the late 80's.

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
I'm flying my son and I to the MCG for the Pies game - that is a 4 hour drive to Brisbane, paying for airport parking, flights down and back, tickets, accomodation etc. It is costing me a fortune to watch a likely loss, sitting amongst 40,000 car theives!

So, finals or not, I can at least look people in the eye and call myself a fan!

Actually, a season without finals will do my boy some good - don't want him thinking success is easy and regular! He needs a few beatings along the way (footy beatings, don't go calling DOCS!).

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
mighty were all still hre and still supporting the hawks,

but what is there to say tho?

I am pretty dissapointed in the team this year and expected more but thats footy hey, guaranteed i'llbe cheering for another 50 years...

ffs mighty i even drove to aami for my team. (waste of good hard earned cash too egrrrr)lol

Nye and I have been pretty honest imo about the poorly playing hawks and how we dont give them much if any of a chance of making the finals,

if they do we will be jumping for joy for sure,

but acting like fos and pumping up the tyres of the hawks a this stage is not as you'd agree our style we are passionate fans but also realistc...

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
The Hawks are certainly not a 'flash in the pan', they are young, talented and have already had success.

This side is a lot like the 'baby Bombers' that won the '93 flag and then missed out on the finals in '94. They peaked between '99 and '01, once the core group was in their prime.

The Saints were considered 'world beaters' in '05 and looked like they may be set for a flag or two - but it is only now that they appear capable of fulfilling that promise.

Even the Cats took a couple of years longer than the scribes suggested to become what they are.

The likes of Hodge, Mitchell, Brown, Franklin, Birchall, Young, Ellis, Roughead, Gilham, Murphy, Rioli, Lewis etc should all be better players in 2 or 3 years. The Hawks will be there-abouts for the next 5 or 6 years, I'm sure of that. It just comes down to taking their chance the next time it comes around.

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
Hey - I'm a Hawks fan and I'm still here! I still love 'em but I don't have a huge amount of faith that we will be figuring in the finals this year. Given that we were, apparently, about 2 years ahead of schedule last year I am quite happy to wait until the current crop of youngsters gel. There's a heck of a lot of talent there but they haven't had much of a chance to turn themselves into a 'team' this year because of all the changes that have had to be made because of injury etc. Unlike a lot of the posters in here I'm not ready to write this side off as a flash in the pan. Having said all that, GO HAWKS!!!

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
im generalizing as in regards to those supporters i know when i stir them up when we beat them in the showdown...as for revolution???? i think the marketing moguls and heirachy talked that one up..cos i dont remember talking or revolution on here....i was more concerned of who was going to replace those who left the club, players, coaches, administrators etc etc...the revolution went elsewhere...lol

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
premiership hangover??? what im amazed at is when port won in 2004...we had been the benchmark for years and finally won one...the club had a clean out, retirements, much like brisbane, so the following season even though many thought they would still do well, they were seen as having a premiership hangover....hawthorn upset geelong and they talked a new era and dynasty...and the way things are going...they dont look like even making the 8. with their list, they would indeed ask questions...were they on steroids last year...??? or crawfords saying, "thats what im talking about!!!" will soon be, "what were we talking about?"
