Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
brownoz, I never said that Rioli's 10 possession g/f display was poor, just that I don't remember much about his game from that day. What I did say was in response to your comment that none of the 15 opposition teams can beat Rioli this yr, but that the Cats held him pretty damn well in rnd 1 where he was beaten. Absolutely nothing to do with last yrs g/f, but that is one game you just can't move on from and keeping bringing up, its about time you move on from the 08 g/f, we are in a new season and you need to move fwd, stop living in the past because if the Hawks fans & players are doing as you do brownoz they won't win another g/f again.

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
one for me that is never mentioned is gilham,he did a wonderful job in defence that game and was close to being in the best, either way it doesnt matter chucker just used a couple of points as michelle seemed to think his 10 posessions were poor so was happy to correct
rioli yes and sewell have been a two best this year no doubt and for a 19 year old to dominate the competition like rioli is unheard of and yes not even selwood was that good

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
So, apart for Dew Young Ellis and Hodge, and discounting the Geelong efforts, Rioli was best on ground, brownoz??
And if Sewell had a poor game, then I am glad he is in my footytips team , because **** me, if he plays a good game, he will score 200

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
yes young hurt himself in the opening minutes of the 3rd qt,he was running off selwood before that and tearing him apart our leading posession winning to that time and he kicked a 65 metre goal to stop geelong's run

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
chucker your knowledge is poor, sewell played a poor first qt beaten by bartel who picked up 13 posessions and it was after that he dominated the midfield

ellis played the game of his life a no brainer really but was very proud o him

dew yes the 5 minutes in front of goal changed the game and before that happened rioli sparked the hawks into gear, the noise form hawks fans after he destroyed 3 senior geelong opponents was never before heard of in football and then he scored the first of those 4 goals in 5 minutes from a dew pass

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
Yeah, it was Young - I had him as my NS winner at half time.

Rioli had a good game, that effort where he beat 3 players in a fight for the ball was classic GF stuff. He kicked a couple of goals too - but he was a long way behind Sewell, Young and Hodge as our best on the day.

Still, a fair effort for a kid in his first season.

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
was it Young who got injured in the 3rd for the Hawks? Whoever it was was pushing for the Norm Smith at the time and tearing the Cats apart, was glad when he went down because I thought it would give us a chance but I was wrong.

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
Brat, my recollection of the GF was that Ellis and Sewell were the standout Hawks of the first half hour, if not on ground, and without them, the game would have been over by half time.

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
I had expected a fired up Hawks, fresh from 2 weeks of Clarkson fire and brimstone, to rip in against the Egos - we didn't have that at all, the effort was no better than the Lions game.

From here, with finals looking increasingly unlikely, all I want is for the team to show some fight (footy fight, not 'line in the sand' bull5hit fight!). If we can get back to playing some respectable footy, then I'll be happy - if we keep dishing up this carp, I'll be less than impressed!

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
don't really care if i lost your respect because I never respected you to start with. But maybe you can answer just 1 question brownoz - over the last 3 or 4 weeks you have credited 3 or 4 players as being "THE REASON" the Hawks won the g/f. 1st it was Dew "with the best 5mins ever in a g/f", then it was Scarlett's fault Geelong lost because "Buddy dominated him in the 3rd which turned the game around for the Hawks", today your saying it was Rioli who sparked the 3rd qtr trashing - and sry to say but I don't really remember much of Rioli from the match, I remember Dew & Hodge but nothing of Rioli. I believe you also blamed Mooney or a couple of other Cats players - please make up your mind because it seems your describing a different game each time with your lack of consistency.

And as for Rioli dominating this yr, maybe its a case that the opposition is shutting down the players around him, making him look better because he is the only one able to have an influence on the game. Like how people asked how good is Selwood really, does he just look better because of the blokes around him, especially when they get tagged and he wasn't giving him a much greater role, well now he is the one getting tagged. So maybe the opp don't think Rioli can do as much damage as guys like Mitchell, Sewell, Buddy, Williams etc so they are letting him go.

Yes i remember tigers beat wc 2 weeks ago with cox playing in the team and brownoze said was nothing to be proud off.
Fast forward to the next round and hawks lose to a very young and inexperienced team without there main ruckman. And he still uses excuses

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
wasn't the wind rather strong on Sat night for the match? When its windy its really hard for either team to win by 60pts because you will struggle kicking against the wind as we saw with the Cats against Port game also. The major diff between the 2 teams Sat night was the Eagles keeping level with the Hawks when the Hawks had the wind, but the Hawks struggled kicking into the wind in the last - they were always going to need a 20-30pt lead at the last change to win due to the wind.

And its annoying me people are saying the Cats went to sleep in the last on Sunday, we didn't have the best quarter but we were beaten both time kicking against the wind so how about people look at the conditions and not just the stats, because the only way for us to win by 60 on Sunday was to be leading by 100pts at the last change.

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
young michelle, rioli had 10 posessions in last years gf too yet his 10 posessions were considered that of greatness, yes we all remember the first year player winning the ball off 3 senior geelong players and sparking the 3rd qt thrashing

have yet to see a team be effective in stopping rioli this year and by trying to undermine him you lose respect

Re:hawthorn Reply to this message
Ignore him girls. Everyone that saw the game knows the Hawks had the better of the umpiring. Sure, a 'lesser' side may have lost by 60 points, but there are not many lesser sides right now. A better side would've won by 60 - the Eagles are poor right now, the trouble is we're worse.

I do think we have a great list and we will be amongst it for a while yet, but this year is just one to write off now!
