This game is more important to the Saints then the Cats. Say the Cats have a game like they did against the Pies last yr, totally out of the game from the 1st bounce and lose by 60-70pts, I doubt that people will jump ship saying they are jokers because they have proven over the last 2 seasons they can go the distance, even after a hiccup.
But if the Saints lose the match by 60+ points then there will be questions asked about them. People will ask if they are the real deal if they can't go the distance against the Cats during the season. Especially after the Dogs pushed them, Dockers took it up to them and a few other teams.
A close match won't do harm for either team, a big lose won't do harm to the Cats, but a thumping to the Saints won't be good for them & could see the Dogs firm in betting for the flag. People will learn from last yrs Cats vs Hawks that a close game doesn't mean any advantage and can fuel things come g/f day, but I can't see the media being so generous to a thrashing of the Saints. This is a season defining match for the Saints so they need to bring their absolute best, they lose and we might just see a string of loses like in yrs past if they can't get their confidence back soon. |

Pies, I agree, the best of the Cats is a lot better than the best of the Saints. I just think the Saints will think this game is more important than the Cats do - which could be enough to get them home.
Come Septmeber, the Cats are dead certs - lock them in now. |

Cats will win
They will still be hurting after the GF loss, and will be out to prove a point - they believe they are number one |

| ybj, every post I have ever seen from you has read something along the lines of the cats getting towled against who ever they are playing - either your letting your bias get the way or you are the worlds worst football tipper. |

| if you look at the draw up until this game, you will find st kilda has played 10 home games to geelongs 5...geelong has travelled 8 times...two trips to subiaco...also st kilda have used less players than any other team...24 to geelongs 30...and for geelong, that is based on injuries to key players...as much as the saints are playing good footy, geelong still are unbeaten yet arent even up to their best at the moment, and they have travelled more..and coming off the back of a grand final loss with re-match first up...plus they have played all top 8 sides already...this is where many of the experts dont seem to look at things more closely....the cats are a team when they need to send out a message, they step up to the plate. i think if anything this game will turn the saints season. if geelong give them a belting, it will change things from here to the finals psychologically. the saints have some tough games towards the end of the season, especially with teams who will be pushing for finals and a top 4 place. i think many need to look at the travel factors these days. collingwood, st kilda, essendon seem to spend a lot of time at etihad and the mcg. |

It will be tough, but I sense the Cats are simply going through the motions - they are eyeing off the bigger fish in September.
St Kilda will see this as a massive game and will be all out to take the 4 points, so I'd be leaning towards them. |

I actually think the Cats have the better defensive unit, but that the Saints defense has starts in the midfield, if you could find the stats I think they probably allow the least inside 50s of any team, so its going to be a case that if the Cats can the ball quickly through the midfield it allows us the best chance of getting into good scoring positions - something similar to the g/f last yr but hopefully our fwds & mids are more accurate this yr.
Is there really much difference between the Saints defense that will line up this week compared to last yr because last yr they allowed the Cats to score 136 in rnd 4 & 119 in the final, so if its similar players the main difference will be how their midfield cope with the pressure from the Cats running defenders and the quick play from the midfielders because if they stop our run it will go a long way to the Saints winning.
I would still like a draw though. |

| Yeah I think the cats might be in danger of dropping this one. Cats still seem a little bit out of sorts if you ask me and yet to hit form. Dare I say it but a loss here might do the cats a favour. |
