| If the jumper is meant to bring pride to the players, such as a Victorian wearing his Big V, how are the opponents going to feel. There is no tradition or loyalty in a spare parts team. Qld & NSW have got it right with the state of origin. This game today's a friggin joke. I hope it dies a natural death. | State of birth won't work. What if a guy is born in SA, leaves at 6 months old and grows up in Vic. He would have no knowledge of his time in SA, no real affinity for the place and would almost certainly consider himself Victorian. On the other hand, I consider myself to be Tasmanian - I was born there and grew up there. But under current origin rules I'd have to play for Queensland! If you fit one or more of, say, three criteria (Birth, lived most during school years or played first footy in) for a particular state then you should be able to play for that state. In the case of players being affiliated with multiple states, he must chose one, and that decision may NEVER be changed - ie, if he plays a game for SA, he can't play for WA in the future. |
