So if the GC team get picks to form a QFL does that mean after the first season they will be entitled to priotity picks until 2011/12?
Well they're hardly likely to win any games. Cunning plan by the fat Greek. ;-) |

<<< Chris, you are being naive if you think "branding" and "market share" have no place in Sydney >>>
I never said that Wanton! In fact, I don't disagree with anything you have said (in your first post anyway. The second post is hysterical!).
Bazza was just putting the Swans line, which is fair enough. But his article still raised the point that West Sydney has to be done properly, and add value to the AFL market share. If it just takes existing support from the Swans, it is a failed exercise for everyone. |

| In all honesty, as Eddy said, If you want to get bots in the bleachers, send in the "Big Hitters". West Coast could float a Company say for Instance, Indian-Pacific Athletic. The East Coast Eagles, already established in NSW could be Morphed into the East Coast Sea Eagles, (beautiful plumage! Yairs, I know Darl!), and be allowed a 100 player list to be split between them, with 10 priority picks in the 1st 3 years. No away fixtures for the Sydney franchise and a Float in the Mardi Gras. That with Collingwood setting a franchise on the Gold Coast seems perfectly reasonable to me! Ben Cuzz, assistant playing Coach, Bluey McKenna inaugral Senior Coach. Trevor Nisbett CEO in Sydney. James Packer Jr. No. 1 Member. Piece a cake really! |

Chris, you are being naive if you think "branding" and "market share" have no place in Sydney. Any club, attempting to set up in Sydney, needs to bear that in mind. The fickle "damsels" are brand driven and Bazza is as attractive as "Wozza" would be in his meter maids outfit, leather jeans and mohair shirt or tight shorts and a 20m kick! They just don't "Fly" mate!
Souths was the pick along with St George in the 60's because they had the best Clubs, Pokies and Floorshows. It is Sydvegas, like Brisvegas. Blonde, Bombshell and well heeled, or, parochially, Westies, a bit like Collingwood etc. Inner Sydney I believe is a bit "different" these days, well heeled punters like "Gloss".
So it is about Market share. It is about branding. And it is open slather for Competition. Bazz's comments are simply an opening salvo to galv@nize those supporters already in the bag, a bit like Arden St. stirring the Pot in Melbourne looking for the bits of meat and veg in a watery stew! |

Never mind the draft, what will the Gold Coast and West Sydney teams be called?
Gold Coast Sharks works for me. And as it looks like the Southport Sharks will get the licence, it's a no-brainer.
Not sure about West Sydney. Perhaps the West Sydney Rams, as there were sheep there in 1788 or soon after. Perhaps some indigenous theme would work. Or maybe the Blacktown Boomers!
Even though I'm a Swans supporter, I will welcome the second Sydney team, and will watch them. But it has to be done properly, and that means committing resources to Western Sydney, growing the game (not just cannibalising Swans members like the Kangaroos tried to do) and adding new supporters and junior recruits to the game from other codes. |

<<< rather than get the ridiculos concessions and handouts other interstate teams have gotten >>>
Snowy, what handouts? If you continue to believe the lies, myths and propaganda spread in Victoria about the Swans and Lions, you are more gullible and stupid than I thought...
They got no "handouts" (unlike what the Kangaroos, Bulldogs and Demons get every year) and the concessions were nothing more than was reasonable if you are serious about setting up teams in non-traditional regions, and actually having a national competition.
But don't let the truth spoil a well run Victorian conspiracy theory... |

Well Snowy, since you think the draft is so great, I'm sure the 2 new teams won't pose a problem....
Actually, it will be a dog's breakfast, which will be good as it might make people realise how unfair and unworkable the draft really is. |

Dressed like Al Grassby and sparkly between the lips! Hmmm, fills the heart with Joy.
Besides Collingwood need an edge, they have been so poorly treated by the AFL for years. Will Joffo get a suntan and a gold G string you think!? |

It is a fantastic plan by the big Greek!!
Sign up a bunch of likely lads, and by the time they get through the traffic maze, the car park and find the change rooms at Carrara ( the biggest hole north of Grafton), it will be 2012 anyway. By that time, under the Kevin Rudd led dental reform system, all Gold Coast based Essendon Collingwood and Port Adelaide supporters will have all missing teeth replaced and will be fine candidates to support the newly formed Gold Coast Sharks |

No, youre missing the beauty of it. Collingwood sacrifices some Locker space for 5 extra on their list, while the "Big Hitter" attracts a following at Carrara, playing "away" fixtures against the top 6 previous years finishers who forego a "home" fixture against Collingwood.
Naturally Eddy only has the common good of the Commonwealth of Australian Football League at heart!
Of Course.. |

It's simple really. They will just go on a holding, temporarily extended list for Collingwood, while the top 6 other sides from the previous season cough up a home fixture against Collingwood to play Collingwood at Carrara.
It will only be the top 5 picks each year, eliminating the worth of sides tanking!
Simple really! |

| I would need to find out exactly how this would work first. I don't like the idea of Gold Coast rcruiting a player, loaning him to Hawthorn and then taking him back when they enter the comp. What if the player wants to stay at Hawthorn? What if the player gets injured and the Hawks are up for compo to the Gold Coast? What if the player doesn't cut it - are the Hawks allowed to delist him? Are the Gold Coast obligated to keep him on their list? Too many questions. |

It seems the AFL is flirting with the idea of giving Gold Coast picks in this years national draft to start building a team.
I dont know if i agree or disagree with this idea.
What do you think should happen? |
