Re:Dogs v Crows Reply to this message
i do believe so ,and i think the latest batch look pretty good too despite the feeling at the time that it was a thin draft.

Re:Dogs v Crows Reply to this message
was pleased to see vince stand up on the weekend, hopefully the penny has dropped.douglas is coming along nicely, and mckay is showing some signs of making it at this level, good to see craigy have some faith and play him week in week out(so far anyway)-maybe just maybe the drafting monkey may be climbing off the crows back.

Re:Dogs v Crows Reply to this message
like i said ,hes got the ticker (mental toughness), as far as drifting along goes , as i already explained hes only been there a couple of years and this last one was his first complete pre-season , what do you want , miracles? not many players make an immediate impact the year they are drafted and of those that do , not all continue at that standard. some of the best players we`ve ever seen took time to develop. being a port magpies supporter i would have thought you would have appreciated and understood the concept of building a strong foundation , this goes for individuals as well as a club as a whole. you say hes taken the next step in the last 2 weeks , i say you don't lose or gain ability overnight , he may have only shown that (next step ability) in the last couple of weeks but its been there for a while now. i could see that ,that's why i challenged you when you said he was a dud.

Re:Dogs v Crows Reply to this message
By treading water I mean drifting along and not improving.
Other attributes...mental toughness to be a consistent player week in and week out, being able to execute skills under pressure, making the right decisions...
A couple of the issues I've had with Bernie in the past are that he doesn't work hard enough to get into the game and he makes too many skill errors. However, he seems to have taken another step in the last two weeks, so let's hope he can keep it going.

Re:Dogs v Crows Reply to this message
Remains to be seen whether it's my failing or not. I guess all players on AFL lists have some talent and potential, and I don't deny Vince has some. But many still don't make it because talent alone isn't enough. My question was always whether he has all the attributes needed at AFL level, as he seemed to be treading water for most of his time in the squad.

Re:Dogs v Crows Reply to this message
yes i do sometimes question his courage . but then he is playing AFL , that takes guts on its own ,so who are we arm chair experts to question any player? about Vince....that's the point freedirt , YOU didn't see anything in him , that's your failing not his. i saw it because i was looking in the right places in the right way , i wasn't looking for performance like you , i was looking for potential, or latent (lying hidden and undeveloped within a person or thing) talent.

Re:Dogs v Crows Reply to this message
Vince just hadn't shown me anything in previous years to think he was up to it. The last two games have been much better, but is he being carried along by a team in good form or is he really poised to make his mark? I hope the latter, but we'll see.

Jericho may have had some bad luck but he's had his chances too. He shows flashes of ability but his game lacks intensity, so often he seems to be just ambling around, he never busts a gut to get the ball. If he can get it into his head what's required at this level, he may yet do something...but time must be running short.

Re:Dogs v Crows Reply to this message
not trying to be a smart a s s here freedirt but its very easy to observe who`s playing well and who isn`t , who`s come on and who hasn`t . the trick is to watch and judge who you think might make it and who might not make it . you have already judged Vince to be a dud , and you may yet prove to be correct , but its not looking good for you on that point i must say. on Jericho , every now and then someone comes along who just cant seem to take a trick every time they get an opportunity and look like making some headway they get knocked back again . Luke i think is one of these people and i think the club recognises this and is why they persist with him , but perhaps his bad luck is his own doing ,maybe he needs to learn how to protect himself better.

Re:Dogs v Crows Reply to this message
Oops, wrong e-mail last time.

I maintain Douglas has been a bit disappointing after having big wraps on him early, but he's entitled to more time and has shown some good signs of late. Jericho must have been in the system for 4 or 5 years and has had plenty of opportunities. Good to see Vince get the Showdown medal, maybe something is starting to happen there...I reckon he's had more possessions in the last 2 weeks than in his entire career before. It's round 3 though, judgement reserved until the end of the season.

Re:Dogs v Crows Reply to this message
"Douglas has been a bit disappointing, Vince and Sellar look like duds to me,"

these are not players who have been around for years , Vince is 22 has been in afl for 3 years ,but has only just completed his first full preseason due to injuries ,Douglas is 21 only 2 years in afl , and Sellar who turned 19 just last week , has also been held back due to injuries and has had just 2 years in the system. so stop with the smoke and mirrors and trying to turn it around to Jericho ,who by the way is still only 23 years old, has had limited opportunities , and may well yet prove to be up to standard. he looked OK last week ,finally seemed more relaxed and at ease , also seem to remember luke kicking 3 goals in a game last year only to be dropped the following week to make way for roo who did nothing that week. even champs have bad days.

Re:Dogs v Crows Reply to this message
No-one is hurt by feeble insults spouted by faceless twits on these boards, oddie, it's a minor irritation at worst and only reflects on the writer. However, your posts do seem to be becoming increasingly petty and childish, and speaking of women, you're the one whining about a relatively mild term like "dud".
No, a player isn't a dud if he has a bad day, but perhaps he is if he's been around for years and hasn't measured up to AFL standard. Once again, that's what I mean by "dud". Will it sooth your delicate sensibilities if I henceforth refer to them as "players who have had time but haven't shown they are up to AFL standard"? Bit of a mouthful, but if it'll make you happy...

bvc1992.....its not Jericho we are talking about . this is a carry over from a different thread ,its not important which players we are referring to, its more about the lack of respect freedirt continually shows to other people by referring to them as "duds".

Re:Dogs v Crows Reply to this message
thanks for finally stating the obvious. I'm not convinced that your feelings were not hurt , your words are those of a woman scorned , you really are upset aren't you sweety.
"My comments are positive when warranted such as after last week's game " so if a player or a team has a bad day does that mean they are duds?
But they're big boys," I hardly think they'd give a stuff what I or anyone else on these boards say, " they are only human, of course they have feelings , you don't have many friends, do you freedirt? ....loser..one that seems doomed to lose. .....dud..a person that is a failure. which one sounds more like a personal attack to you?

Re:Dogs v Crows Reply to this message
im with freedirt with this one-i am a crows supporter but how long have we been waiting for the fringe players like jericho to stand up-if he is given the opportunity to play some games in a row lets see if he can put it together week after week-got nothing against the bloke but hes been around for a few years now and hasnt really shown a great deal-although to eat humble pie i had the same opinion of porplyzia, but he has proved me wrong-it would be nice to see jericho play good footy on a more consistent basis, but i guess its hard cause he seems to be forever in and out of the team.

Re:Dogs v Crows Reply to this message
My comments are positive when warranted such as after last week's game, but hey, don't let reality get in the way of your precious little rants. If a player has been in the system for a few years and seemingly made little, if any, progress, there's nothing wrong with pointing out the fact. I might ultimately be proved wrong in which case I'll gladly admit it. But they're big boys, I hardly think they'd give a stuff what I or anyone else on these boards say, and I'm sure they'd take it with a lot more maturity than you show. The term "dud" is solely in reference to their football abilities at AFL level, not a personal attack on them as people.

No tripe you come out with would hurt me, oddie, I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of your words. And it should be pretty obvious to anyone with less selective vision who I support, but just for you I follow both SA sides and want them both to do well, unlike some, but having been a Port man in the SANFL they're my first team.

Re:Dogs v Crows Reply to this message
why do your "football related opinion"s always seem to revolve around criticising young up and coming players who are still awaiting a proper chance to prove themselves or at very least gain some valuable experience to further their development. you are a joke , you are so arrogant and conceited that you actually believe that you know more about these players than the people that drafted , trained , and picked them to play the game at the highest level. if you want to take this as a personal attack that's fine , you criticize me for attacking you but that's the whole point Ive been trying to get through to you ,that your use of the term "dud" is a personal attack on the players you aim these barbs at. you obviously felt hurt being called a looser , imagine how these guys might feel about being called "duds" by those who are supposed to be their supporters. and speaking of supporters , why don't you come clean about who you really support.

perhaps if you really are as polite as you portray yourself to be you wouldn't use terms such as dud and we wouldn't be having this conversation in the first place. and speaking of overreacting , me thinks thou protest to much ,must have hit a nerve.

Sort of like denigrating someone you know nothing about with a term like "loser"....quite an overreaction.
I much prefer to keep these forums polite, but you, sir, are a knob.
