barring injury or illness, I'm very confident that given opportunities Bernie will impress at AFL level this year. He is an outstanding young man who has matured and advanced immensely in the past year.with another preseason behind him im sure this year will see the emergence of Bernie Vince.

Re:Scott Welsh goes Reply to this message
I base my views on what I've seen of Vince at SANFL level, which isn't a huge amount but I watch when I can. Again, he's never stood out to me as someone I'd be confident would make it in the AFL, but good luck to him, the Crows certainly need fringe players to start making their mark. Only time will tell, and I hope you'll be equally as forthcoming if Bernie has another mediocre year running around with the Eagles.

Re:Scott Welsh goes Reply to this message
freedirt, did you watch any of the sanfl finals series last year?...Bernie Vince was arguably possibly probably almost nearly best on ground in all of the eagles finals matches and was also very good leading up to the finals after recovering from some injury woes.yes you are entitled to your opinion ,but my opinion is that your opinion is the wrong opinion. lets hope Bernie can remain relatively injury free this season so we can clearly observe his progress. look forward to further correspondence with you through the season and will enjoy witnessing your podiectomy... yours sincerely, oddielokie.

Re:Scott Welsh goes Reply to this message
oddielokie, perhaps you could be a bit less precious and realise these forums are about opinions and I'm entitled to express mine. I'll be glad to congratulate Bernie Vince if he does make it at AFL level (and I hope he does), but I've seen nothing up to now to suggest he's up to it.

Re:Scott Welsh goes Reply to this message
i wonder, freedirt, will you publicly pull your foot out of your mouth and apologize when bernie vince proves you wrong by showing he`s anything but a dud. perhaps you could show a bit more respect towards these hard working young men who are trying to forge a career in a highly pressurised field.

Its no secret if you're a Crows supporter you should already know. But to help you he hasn't played a game for the Crows yet, I just don't want to put to much on the lad.

I was not talking about Gill and no I don't think I am over rating them. I don't think Gill will play for the Crows next year unless they have injuries, and if he doesn't then he will be delisted at years end.

You just wait the Crows have a potential 100 goal kicker already on the list, can't name him but he's there.

Re:Scott Welsh goes Reply to this message
With all the talk of some key defenders playing forward we could always pick up Torney in the draft to fill in for those moving forward.

...and there is 'Fred' as a last resort!

Re:Scott Welsh goes Reply to this message
Irrelevant post, but since you've gone off on that tangent, under Ayres the Crows made the finals 3 times in 5 years (highest 3rd once), under Craig they've made the finals 3 times in 3 years (highest 3rd twice). That looks like a better record under Craig to me.

Re:Scott Welsh goes Reply to this message
If all goes well mightypies the best option is actually Hentschel. No-one will really know how well he has recovered from his broken leg and reco knee until he hits the turf in a real game but on past performances the Crows bets 2 forwards now are him and McGregor. Gill will certtainly be competitive but I think at this level he will be a 1 1/2 to 2 goal player whilst McGregor could possibly be 2-3 and Hentschel 3-4. McGregor showed what he could do with 4 against Hawthorn in last seasons finals while Welsh, well, did SFA. Welsh is 40-50 goal player as a focal point but if he is pressured.....and Riccuitos last 2 years is why he retired.

Re:Scott Welsh goes Reply to this message
Theres still enough to finish in the eight but how many more years will they do that before deciding it is time to really rebuild for a premiership side?

Not many i wouldn't think. With Mcleod,Goodwin, Edwards all set to retire sooner rather than later the crows are set to pay a heavy price for thier lack of list development. Welsh and Roo where the only 2 players to really kick goals on a consistent basis in the past couple of seasons, now the best option is Gill!

Re:Scott Welsh goes Reply to this message
I can see a big slide if things dont fall into place freedirt. Craigy doesnt have an adventurous bone in his body when coaching and even the Crows coaching additions of Benny Hart and Matty Clarke aren't inspired choices. A steady ship is good but they need some radical thinking at times and at least Blighty had that even though he might have not been helpful to the club in future years after his tenure finished. Theres still enough to finish in the eight but how many more years will they do that before deciding it is time to really rebuild for a premiership side?

Re:Scott Welsh goes Reply to this message
Interesting times for the Crows, eh fella? Hentschel is a key factor, they badly need him to get back to his best but the chances of that are probably questionable given the extent of his injury. They certainly need a number of players to show they're up to it...Douglas has been a bit disappointing, Vince and Sellar look like duds to me, Moran would be a bonus if he could hold down a spot, but if he couldn't crack it at the Kangaroos...? It'll be very interesting to see the makeup of the forward line come round 1.

Re:Scott Welsh goes Reply to this message
A worst case scenario for the Crows is for Biglands and Hentschell to re-injure themselves and for Maric and Griffin not develop over summer. At this stage, beside Kenny McGregor, who is solid at best, the Crows lack any goal kickers. The development of Richard Douglas, who was kicking goals at SANFL level, is a must. Nick Gill is likely to be no more than a 2 goal a game player and Bock and Stevens the same, that is if either or both dont play down back. Moran will need to stand up quickly at CHB so Bock can play consistently forward. It seems Moran has atheleticism but short on footy brains so is best suited to picking someone up rather than a creative role. Sellar will need to play AFL this year to prove he is of any worth for my mind. Ideally a fit Burton will be used further out from the goalfront and even as a wingman. Can Bernie Vince take potential to reality? A small forward with some midfield role with the Eagles he need to step up. I dont expect Adelaide to get too much out of Queenslander Kurt Tippett as he develops, only having had a short amount of time in the game. There are a number of options there but as I said none stand out. Maybe Salter should be looked at as freedirt says.

All the more reason I hope the Crows pick up someone like Salter from the local Eagles in the draft, looks a ready made full forward.

Re:Scott Welsh goes Reply to this message
good point freedirt-if forwards are so easy to get hold of why havent the crows had a full forward since modra got the boot-if welsh had been played on a forward flank feeding a full forward, and not being the full forward-i think you would of seen a very good player-due to lack of vision and talent in the side welsh was made into a full forward-a position im sure he was never comfortable with-who is now gonna kick his 30-40 goals a year-some of the lesser lights in this team are gonna have to stand up now-they havent in previous years,im still not sure if they can in the future-i hope im wrong.

He's still their leading goalkicker more often than not. Who are these "plenty" to take his place? Effective forwards are in short supply at the Crows.

Re:Scott Welsh goes Reply to this message
He is totally over rated the only good thing he does is chase down slow defenders, but all the forwards should be trained to do that.
Sometimes he is as lazy as, but a good kick for goal.

If you are a true Crows supporter I would not be to concerned, because there are plenty to take his place. Also I can't stand these mercenary players, shows no loyalty.
