Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
whoever they pick they just have to get it right, this draft will shape the crows future as big name retirements will be an all too familiar scene in the next 2-3 years.the pressure is well and truly on now,the backlash will be enormous if they get it wrong!!!

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
Wondering if the Crows might use their later draft pick(s) to take a more mature player from the SANFL to bolster their stocks. Callinan from Centrals has been mentioned a bit as a crumbing forward which the Crows need. One I think they should look at is Salter from the Eagles, saw him play a couple of times late in the season and he looked a likely type as a key forward, tall, a bit of strength, OK at ground level too...worth a try as a full forward option.

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
Brad Moran is an Englishman brought up on soccer and rugby. Moved here at 15 and got into AFL with Southport. Did really well in the draft (runs so fast it's not funny), but has struggled to get a game at the Roos because they packed him straight off to the Tassie Devils... I presume to get some more experience.

I really like this kid, and I hope he does well at Adelaide.

Good news is... if news of this gets back to England, every AFL loving pom is going to be supporting the Crows now, and Setanta Sports is going to be showing loads of your games!

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
The AFL site said the Crows ended up with pick 22 from the Hudson deal, but Yahoo says 30. I suppose the latter will be right. Pretty ordinary, but they were over a barrel.

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
Given the thin ruck stocks they needed to grab another tall from somewhere, so I guess Moran is it. As stated previously I'm surprised they didn't seem to go after Wood from Brisbane.

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
Symes we know freedirt because we have seen him play AFL, and some good ones too, but Moran has had 2 or 3 preseason games and 2 late season regular games, hardly an ad to say he'll be anything at all.

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
Maybe they reckon those two players are better than what they'd be likely to get from 2nd/3rd round picks in a thin draft...but obviously neither are worldbeaters.

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
Geez, and I thought Symes was highly rated at Port? He is a definite improvement on Mattner. Admit I do hope Moran doesn't turn out like Gilligan, Meesen and the druggie Angwin. Argh, what am on about, we dont trade well! Just hard to accept we are so inept at this PA. lol

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
freedirt....your last 9 words are an annual sentence in relation to the Crows in trade week. They rarely improve their position with the trades they make.

But, as you said....time will tell....again!

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
Symes from Port and Moran from Kangaroos for picks 28 and 37 respectively. Symes in for Mattner and don't know much about Moran except he's 200cm and the Roos supporters don't seem to rate him. Time will tell, but no obvious improvement of the squad with these trades.

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
Exactly. Maybe they thought pick 10 was too high a price. But supposedly this years draft is not overly strong, so it's questionable what they'll get with that pick anyway.

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
I thought it was a bit odd too, didn't hear anything about the Crows even trying to get Wood. He hasn't done much at Brisbane but with the Crows' thin ruck stocks it seemed like an obvious option.

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
I think crows have missed the boat in a good ruckman in C wood from the lions... they were in the box seat with pick 10, but for some reason the pies look like getting by using pick 14.

i feel this may be another bad moment with the crows trade/draft history

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
From what little I've seen in the SANFL, Maric shows some vigor in the ruck and could become a good presence around the stoppages...and Griffin has some talent. They'd better come on because aside from the returning Biglands (who's 30), there ain't no-one else.

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
Geez how horrible is this, no.14 -a ruckman (Tom Gilligan?) went home, no.7- a ruckman, went home in a haze (Laurie Angwin) no.8 - a ruckman (John Meesen- talented but a slacker)- going home. Hope Ivan Maric doesnt fall over too! thge best of the lot was rookie listed Jon Griffin (West Ozzie). Pick talls from anywhere but Victoria Crows because it seems you are yet to pick one good one yet!

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
Its always good to look on the bright side but the crows have stuffed their early draft picks they need to do better.
I think Tippett and Sellar will come good and Griffin will be a star if he can put some meat on.

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
Meesen, while apparently talented has shown as close to nothing as you can get and still his workrate is questionable so unless he lifts dranatically for his next club he will be dead wood for them too. Hudson I would have given a 3 year deal. Not top echelon in ruckmans terms but his ability to get clearances that the Crows midfield cannot will be sorely missed. Clarke shoved it down their throats so they didn't have to go earn their own and Hudson got his own to give it to them whilst Biglands is not a tap ruckman and doesnt get Huddos clearances. Griffin and Maric will have to shine and hopefully Tippett and Sellar will come good as possible forward targets.

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
It's a concern, the Crows have no bargaining power with Hudson and Meesen as the Bulldogs and Melbourne can pick them up for nothing in the pre-season draft. The system is poor when it allows things like that to happen, should be changed.

Re:Personnel changes Reply to this message
Trading starts next week I've heard that the Demons do not want to give anything for Meeson and the Bulldogs same with Hudson so I don't think we are going well for next year.
I just hope now that they have different personnell in the recruiting department although Fantasia didn't do a bad job.
We need to do better in that area.

Hudson and Meesen gone, but McGregor staying...a good thing considering the Crows lack of forwards. He's no worldbeater but can take a contested mark so the side will be much better off with him than without.
