| have to agree with you port-our trading has been very much below par-and some draft picks have been shockers-crows must pick and trade well this year or we wont be needing sunglasses cause the future wont be to bright-we will be losing some of our best players within 2-3 years-they must be replaced sooner rather than later.and a bloody full forward would be nice, just for something a bit different. |

| The Crows history in trading in the last 16 years has been below par on average. I think in 1990 they did pretty well compiling a list that was instantly up to AFL standard given the sh1t concessions they received upon entry into the AFL but they have not been known for successful trades since 1991 onwards in my opinion. Sure one or two have done ok but remember before some of you start reeling off 5 or 6 quality players that were traded IN you must remember what you gave up for them. |

| cam wood was taken at pick 19ish not 3... the crows were set to pick him but opted for messen instead. now the crows will look to give the lions pick ten for wood and trade messen for a lower pick |

| Griffin moves OK for his size, but I can see defenders running off him with ease when the ball hits the ground. Certainly hope to see him develop over the off season though, however they decide to use him. Stiffy has the talent for the midfield, not sure about the natural aerobic capacity. |

| Mcmahon may well get traded he has sensatinal skills one week and poor skills the next Craig could work him out. He and McCleod would be a fair team. |

| You should get some tapes of Griffin freedirt. he is not some lumbering ruckman and moves quite well. An extra 10-15 kilograms and another preseason will see him do a lot better. Very good skills. Cam Wood is a good young ruckman. At 20 there is a lot of upside and he was taken at pick 3 by Brissie. McMahon off a back flank or our of a back pocket to release Stiffy has merit. |

| Trent H standing up next year is a big "if" though. I also can't see Griffin as a forward, it would be like playing 3 ruckmen and the days of tall beanpole forwards who can't move quickly enough to put pressure on the opposition defenders seem to be over. Wood and McMahon are in the mediocre category imo. So on balance I'd prefer the Crows talked Hudson and McGregor into staying, but that seems a bit unlikely...will be interesting to see how it pans out. |

| Hudson will be a loss and whilst he's not top of tree I'd give him the money. His value is hard ball gets and clearances whioch, after losing Roo from the middle a couple of years ago has shown up badly for the Crows. I like Kenny and I'll bet that he is a good bloke too, but even though he is the Crows best contested mark up front he is no matchwinner. If Trent H stands up next year and Gilly continues on an upward trend and they use Jon Griffin as they were originally going to then the Crows could have three very good tall forwards. Keeping Hudson so Griffin can stay up front is vital as you can then use Maric and Meesen as backups to Huddo and Biglands. Still, it might be time to move on and if the Advertisers deal came off and we got Wood and McMahon and the No 5 pick and send Kenny and Huddo to the Bulldogs and the No 10 pick to Brissie then it could be a step forward. There has been some renewal inthe midfield in bits this year so maybe a new forward, back and ruck would be good too. Could release Johncok to the midfield. |

| That's why I'm not keen on either Hudson or McGregor leaving, all the Crows are likely to get is a couple of mediocre players in return. |

| pony you got buckleys of getting Griffen if Hudson leaves then he leaves! the Dogs won't give you a star for a average ruckman. |

""Yeah, I could care less freedirt"" I couldn't care less either I don't want anyone playing for the CROWS who don't want to be there. And Ben was one of my favourites,
"" Doesn´t look that good for 2-3 years """
Well as long as we beat Port every year I don't care about that either!!! |

| Yeah, I could care less freedirt...I was just giving my outsiders opinion but it seems obvious they may well struggle again next year if the Roo, McGregor and Hudson all end up leaving and then, perhaps, after next season some of the aging greats (Goodwin/McLeod/Edwards etc) will all be retiring much sooner than later. Doesn´t look that good for 2-3 years away unless, as you said, someone steps up in a BIG way. Who can it be?!?!? And then...who else will step up because several will have to in the next 2 years! |

| Don't know what the salary offer would've been but 2 years on decent (I assume) money is hardly "no reward", he's about to turn 29 after all. I can't see the Crows getting a quality ruckman from any drafting/trading, so it looks like 2008 will be another season of struggling in the ruck unless one of the rookies can really step up quickly (not likely given what we saw from them this year). |

Not sure if it was ´no reward´ offered to him but more than likely he overvalued himself or the Shmows undervalue him when it comes to the dollar.
Either way, if he leaves I think the Shmows will be worse off unless they get a very good draft deal for him. |

Not always a big fan of stats but Hudson had more hit outs than the rest of the club put togther. What this means he has carried this team all year and gets no reward for effort when contracts are up for renewal. Hudson & Biglands would be a very strong combination for next year.
Also Mc Gregor was still on the goal kicking leaders board even with a limited games played this year. He is still our best contested mark inside 50. |

Unless the Shmows recruit a big name in the coming draft then the loss of Hudson and possibly McGregor is seriously going to hurt their big man stocks and their experience.
The expected return of Hentschel with counteract some of this but they would have to be worse off losing these 2 big man (assuming McGregor will be traded).
With the Roo going and a list that includes a few other aging greats there appears no room to lose too many 50-100 gamers that have some ability. Of course, that is just my outsider opinion :-p |

| Losing McGregor is a concern. The Crows already lack key forwards, and while McGregor is no world-beater he can take contested marks. It would be very unwise to rely on Hentschel filling the breach next year, there's no knowing how he'll come up. A key forward roster of Hentschel, Welsh and Gill is not sufficient...I'm really hoping the hierarchy will wake up and talk McGregor into staying. |

| I feel that maybe the amount of money asked could be a bit high but what's the price of a quaulity bigman when you only have kids and injured players on your list. I say pay the money and keep the club going forward if they don't I will be looking forward to the 2009 season and might skip next season. The other thing that is being over looked is the possible loss of Ken Mc Gregor is there a problem with Neil Craig and his policies and structures that make people want to leave. If we loose both of these players it will at least force Neil Craig to introduce younger players which he has been reluctant to do even thought it was going to one of main focuses when he took over from Gary Ayres another coaching mistake made by the Crows almost as big as Robert Shaw. |

He was taken as a late pick aged 25, no other club showed interest, so it's questionable whether he'd have had a career otherwise.
Supposedly this is solely about the terms and value of the new contract, but there's bound to be speculation about other factors...eg. the Advertiser mentions speculation that he lost interest in the Crows after Craig gave him a scathing assessment of his form at the start of August. It would be pretty poor if that was a factor. |

My feelings are if you are good enough you will make it anyway - hence do not agree with "plucked from obscurity"
This price sounds excessive, but if another club offers that money, good luck to him.
Hudson recently was banned by the club for a match for breaking a curfew that Neil Craig established. Do you think there is underlying tension with the coach?? |

Apparently contract talks with Ben Hudson have broken down and he's requested to be traded to the Western Bulldogs. According to the paper today he asked for a contract for 3 years worth more than 1 million, which the Crows considered excessive, offering 2 years and less money.
This would be a huge blow to the Crows' already weak ruck stocks, leaving them with Biglands (returning from a knee reco) and a couple of rookies. I agree that Hudson's demands are excessive though, he's an important player but not that good. Doesn't show much appreciation for the Crows plucking him from obscurity and giving him the chance that no-one else would. How do others see this? |
