I looked up one of these sites and did some googling and I must say I am surprised at what I have seen.
Need to check it more but there may be a case to say we've swallowed a romanticised view of 'Tibetan culture'.
And that history and current reality are not as the Dalai Lama cheer squad would have us believe.

This basically says the Monks were Feudal landlords who oppressed their serf population.
The Communist takeover in China freed the Tibet province so that the serfs now work their own land and are not that unhappy with the change.
Since 1950 Tibet's population has doubled, average life expectancy has gone from 36 to 65, and they are free to marry without monks' approval and many other new freedoms. |

| I do not think the Tibetens are happy with the fact-that their country has been overrun by the Hann Chinese who now own a large percentage of the business; while the local Tibetans do not have jobs-nor the fact ;the massive rail line, that was built across the alps; is actually for the use of the Chinese to plunder the riches of Tibet and ship back the natural reserves -to allow the chinese economy to grow; while flooding the Tibetan lands with the overflow from china! |

| i think its history is largely irrelevant...its what is happening right now that is the issue and what we are seeing is a brutal violent crackdown on political opponenets and peaceful demonstrators...there is NO place for that in 2008... |

piecesh!t69, you are farting without a clue. natural reserves wide, what Tibet has to provide for the Chinese economy growth? any significant mining industry has been in operation over there so far? who the hell in China wanted to migrate to this remote, backward, cold and impoverished mountain area? the presence of the Han Chinese over there are mostly engineers, doctors, and other professionals to help this backward aborigines to build hospitals, schools, houses and many more infrastructure.
you breeding heart hypocrite, go tell the majority of the Tibetan people that they don't need these, and let them go back to the feudal age when the lama and monks held them as slaveries. |

The Dalai Lama was plucked out of from a flock of peasants by some i diotic system.
Look at him closly and you will notice he is no religious monk but a smiling assasin.
