In a western democratic society, we can question everything and anything. And we do so quite regularly. It's healthy. It sparks debate. It gives rise to ideas and enlightenment.
For example, the history and the faith of Christianity has been and still is constantly questioned, challenged, a n a l y s e d, and prodded by many scholars, theologians, writers, movie makers, scientists and ordinary folk.
But when it comes to the topic of Islam, it is like Islam is off-limits. Why? What are people afraid of? Why are they afraid? Should they be afraid?
Why should people even be threatened with or put to death for their views on Islam... views which are in line with basic human rights such as the freedom of speech, freedom of religion, rights of the child, and rights against sexual and racial discrimination?

Why don't people question Islam New, because to question Islam or what the prophet said leads to DEATH.
The threat of violence is there for all to see look at the front page of the SMH or Age today a British Kurd not just killed but tortured & raped by her OWN father for talking via text to the wrong man.
Do this or we'll stone you Don't do that or we will kill you.
Islam relies on the stupidity of the uneducated masses(keeping women uneducated is one way of making sure not to many get an education to the point of questioning & YES you guessed it if you educate or are an educated women THEY WILL KILL YOU) & mob mentality for justice.
If you wish to believe fairytales then why not believe in one that doesn't requirer you to kill everything. |

| I agree with the moderator. We should be discussing the real issues not biased opinions as such. There are marked differences between how Islam and Christianity view the same subject. For example christians will not threaten to kill one of their own kind if they become a muslim, however the reverse is not true aparantly as the defector as he is labelled has offended God. ???? History has shown most wars are religious in origin so will diplomacy ever really work if the extreemist in any culture canb do so much damage to the stability of religious tolerance? |

In November 2007, Gillian Gibbons, 54, from Liverpool, was thrown in jail by Sudan police for insulting Islam by letting her class of seven-year-olds name a teddy bear Muhammad as part of a school project.
She was accused of blasphemy â an offence punishable by 40 lashes under Sharia â and could have been imprisoned for up to six months.
Gillian had simply asked the children to pick their favourite name for the new class mascot, which she was using to aid lessons about animals and their habitats. In a class vote, the pupils rejected her own suggestion of âFarisâ, with 20 out of 23 deciding to call the cuddly toy Muhammad â also the name of one of the classâs most popular boys.
How could such a situation happen? What evil act did Gillian Gibbons do to offend Islam? How could people react so extremely to such a matter? And why?
This is the sort of situation I wish someone could explain. |

| How do you learn about anything without questioning? Why are you committing blasphemy if you question a certain religion...If all the people are forced to believe unquestionably what do you have? A flock of sheep, perhaps...unable to think for yourself is no way to live. |

Dear Ali, please help us. We were very impressed with your website and agreed that religion in general is no longer needed, we can all be humanistic and live in peace and harmony. We are in the process of making a website which will hopefully help to destroy the religious doctrines which divide humanity.
