| What good places are there to go to in Japan, around Osaka, Nara, Kyoto, Wakayam, Kobe etc. I'm looking for good Out of the way places, not the usual traps. My wife is Japanese and we go there every year or two, so I've seen pretty much everythin there is to see from a regular tourist perspective, and a lot that isn't tourist at all. So I'm looking for a heads up on where to go next time. Don't mind going up to Mie prefecture and around Biwa-ko, and even beyond, will go to Okayama if need be, got lots of time so don't mind travelling a bit, but I HAVE TO see stuff that's out of the ordinary and off th beaten track. Thanks |

Like to help you out, schwang, but I've only been to Ja*pan (hey!! you aren't even allowed to say Ja*pan here!! Aren't these Americans utterly bloody stupid) once, years ago, and I haven't even seen all the tourist traps yet.
But good luck. If you find something really nice, best keep it to yourself. Otherwise it's bound to be overflowing with transient riff-raff in no time. |

Aaah, too true, dissent.
I managed to type ja pan 2 days ago, but not anymore. I wonder if things get listed for ever or just until people stop abusing them. It could end up being the whole english language if they're not careful. Besides which, people still type f u ck, sh it, p iss, cu nt etc so I don't know why they bother |

| Sounds lovely, unfortunately I'm not coming up that far. I'm really into anything, love natural scenery, there's a big bushwalk somewhere around the back Nara that I want to do, someone said it takes three days. I love gardens, and have moved away from the popular ones and actually started going into people private gardens, takes a bit of talking but get's you there in the end, when they see you really are just interested in the garden, not in killing them. I came across a lovely little buddhist shrine, up in the hills at the back of Kyoto, when I took a wrong train and landed in the back end of nowhere, saw a little path and followed it. It went right up through the hills and came out at the top of this crevasse, and there's this tiny little shrine with just one monk, and the main room(what do they call that meditation room?) cantilevered out over the valley, with a spectacular view. I chatted with the monk for ages, and now go back there every time I'm in the country. etc etc etc |

| We have the shrines all over the mountain here,,and i know about the gardening side of things,,weve made a lovely garden and ive added many things to make it differant like using young pine trees they cut down in the forest and made them into giant pencils by sharpening them and painting the ends differant colours,,we have ducks chooks and peac, cks just walking around the place,,cattle out the back and a jersey house cow,,just hang around outside and waits for visitors,,we have afruit stall as we are farmers and many people comment as weve made it so nice,,lots of colour and some wierd things ive built,,huge outside pizza oven and large bbq area,,many differant seating areas etc,,many people just stop and have a coffee and take photos,,i would guess 2 car loads a day on average,,its holiday time here until wednsday so its more like 8 car loads a day now..scenery here is amazing snow capped peak and a beautiful lake,,when the cherry blossums are out i doubt you would find anywhere as beautiful..enjoy your holiday ...Mark |
