Pateethai is nice, I used to eat at the original one years ago.
There used to be a little place in Smith St (collingwood) called LY LY Palace. They had THE BEST rice and egg noodle soup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can still taste it now. You ever go there? ( its changed hands now!) |

I keep hearing this from friends and colleagues. Think I might head out there with the missus on the weekend.
If you are in the city and like live jazz you should check out the restaurants and Cafes in Hardware Lane. "Vons" Mediterranean is OK but the real drawcard is the atmosphere.
I have also become a huge fan of the beer tasting nights at Transport in Fed Square on Tuesdays (just got back from one). They feature four boutique beers a week and it starts at 6:30. If its a local beer, they sometimes have the brewer in to talk about it. |

Recently ate at Balas in St Kilda.
It is a modern Asian resteraunt with stuff like Indian, Chinese, Thai etc.
The butter chicken there was fabulous.
It is off Acland Street, St Kilda close to Luna Park. |

The Shanghai Dumpling Restaurant in Tattersal's Lane, Little Bourke St. Gorgeous food and hell cheap - don't expect silver service! The best souvlaki place in town is Lambs, on the corner of Lygon and Queensbury? There are some brill little places on Smith St and Brunswick St, too.
Melbourne is sooooo good for food - missing it lots :( |

<< The Shanghai Dumpling Restaurant in Tattersal's Lane, >>
Yes Camy Shanghais steamed pork dumplings with their bucket of spicy sauce with chopped chilis in it. AAAARRRGGHHH....DROOL.
Whenever I go back to australia I always pay a visit for these extremely cheap succulent treats. I heard they were done by the health inspectors a while ago but I hope they are back in business.
I also ate one of the best meals ever at a chinese restaurant in Smith St Collingwood. I think its called the Middle kingdom. best peking duck ever. You have to book at least two days in advance so they can prepare your duck. Delicious.
i used to live 5 minutes walk from Brunswick St. This thread is bringing back some great memories.
great pub meals at The Napier, and another pub around the corner (cant remember the name) and the beer garden at ....aaagh my memory is failing. It's time I went back and refreshed it. |

| Yeah, the Rainbow used to go off, specially on Sundays, when Chick was running it. Did you ever go to "The Standard", just behind "Virgonas" on Brunswick St? Nice pub with a great atmosphere. "Virgonas", now theres a blast from the past, LOL |

Ever go to "The Nightcat"? I remember when Henry first opened it. Was a great little place.
"The Bullring" was good for a Sunday lunch, Tapas and lots of it. Apparently, the Chef used to cook for the Spanish Pm.
Gypsy Bar was also good for coffee and cake on Sunday arvos.
Lots would disagree, but I LOVED breakfast at Cafe Nova on Sat or Sun mornings. |
