bountyhotel - I haven't been there since 1993, but I had a really good friend in Kuta that I've lost contact with. His name is I Wayan Suandi and he used to live in Kuta with his wife and 3 kids. Kids names are Wayan Agus, Made Ketut and Nyoman Emi.
I'm sure Suandi is still in Kuta. If you know of him, can you please let me know?

Bali is OK...Kuta and surrounds suck however.
As for the Bounty Hotel...much better places to stay than here. Bounty is great for teenagers and 20 somethings but be warned. This facility grossly over charges for alcohol...sml Bintang for R20000 when I can pay R9000 up the road at Bali Bagus pub??? What a crock... :(
Likewise you pay same price for spirit based drinks as you would in Oz. Service charges for simple things like ice, service charges if you don't want a minibar in the room...the list is endless.
OK hotel and facilities but they'll try to squeeze you for every last Rupiah they can.
Much better hotels are available should you wish to visit Bali. On the whole however, Kuta is an over-commercialised trap for unwary tourists...come in suckers!
If you must stay around Kuta...look to the outer areas like Sanur or Seminyak. At a pinch the old tourist "mecca" of Nusa Dua is probably worth a look although will be pricey.
Personally, I still have no qualms about visiting Bali and have been numerous times. It is no better or worse than many other places in SE Asia.
Watch out for the touts trying to flog timeshare apartments, don't be stupid and get caught up with anything to do with drugs or pornography, be savvy with your haggling over purchases from street vendors (1/3 of first asking price is about the norm), and don't eat from the street foodcarts unless you are used to the local food - the side effects are extraordinary!!!

| I have been to bali many times and i will definitely be going back its a beautiful part of the world, the people are very companionable, in reagards to the terror issue i believe when its your time to go you go simple as that. |

The first time i went to Bali i had no choice as it was for work purposes, after the first time i fell in love with the place. Ofcourse if i hear of terror attacks on the news i wont go but for the most part its not that dangerous.
I refuse to be scared and bullied by extremist, i will travel were i please. I have been to the middle east also and have seen some dangerous situations but my job requrires me to go there and for the most part l love my job so fear doesn't come into it. :-) |
