Anyone can become a tourist from America, all it takes is to make a move, lift your game,go get a job,but being a tourist doesnt mean your rich. There are heaps of jobs in the States.
You can become a tourist in America the same way,its just that much cheaper to tour the States than Australia. |

" Have you had a really good look at your education system lately? Find the US on a map and you got a degree"
*saturday4th* ... Where are you from? LOL... I do not see anything wrong with our education system at all. Yes there are cities where teachers are laid off, or maybe even a few schools closing down due to economy, but the teaching still remains the same. Plenty of people here are well educated, and that includes myself. So again I do not know where you grew up, or what types of schools you went to, but if you didn't go to one here ... then what the heck do you know? Not a thing ! |

| You have to excuse Americans as they really have little consideration, respect or manners for those that are not Americans. Maybe even for other Americans as well, but other Americans would probably be used to that. |

Where did you get that idea? Tipping is not required. It is just a custom to tip a good waiter or waitress. Some do and some dont. Its entirely up to the individual. |

The custom of tipping in the US is a way to thank the hard working waiters and waitresses for a job well done...
It is quite relaxing to eat out in America. We rarely have to ask for napkins, salt and pepper, a glass of water, or what is on special.
In the high class restaurants customers are pampered and every need is seen to immediately...without having to ask or wait to catch a waiter's eye.
Here you rarely get napkins (serviettes)...you have to wait quite a while for a meal...sometimes you even have to go to the cash register to order your food.
What is wrong with thanking someone for extra special service? I usually tip the pizza delivery person, taxi drivers, hairdressers, or anyone who shows me a kindness...
Many of our waiters and waitresses are students, or single moms...these folks always need a little extra to tide them over...Americans are known for their generosity...
The waiters and waitresses are usually paid minimum wage...tips can add up, especially if the person is good at his job...it gives great incentive to treat the customers well and see to their every need...and with a smile as well. Maybe if you tried this system here the service in the restaurants would improve. |

Yeah. They always have to wear the uniform, don't they? |

Nothing at all. The problem comes in when people expect to be tipped for doing their job. Nothing more frustrating then when they automatically put a tip on the bill and expect you to pay whether the services has been good or bad. |

That's because they get paid krappe wages and pretty much live on tips. Food is cheaper (when you consider the exchange rate) than over here - so if you tip in America, you're no worse off than if the owner of the establishment paid his staff better wages and abolished tipping.
Any Aussie who is given a tip by an American over here should just count themselves as lucky. |

I think Americans expect good service in other countries because they provide good service in their own country. I like it that Americans tip. I wouldn't do it here at home unless somebody had provided a really good service, but I occasionally tip "stand out" service - or people I know that are making bugger all cash (but only if they do a good job). |

I always tip, but tip even better when the waitress/waiter does an exceptional job. Tipping just gives them that extra incentive to do a good job...Everyone is happy....:) |

American and Australian tourists: some good, some bad, just like the rest of the population
So true. Four years ago, two online Australian friends of mine came to visit me for 3 weeks. We went on a road trip into Chicago, over into Amish country, down through the Smokey Mts. in Tenn., the Cherokee Reservation in NC, Graceland in Memphis, and up through Arkansas. We had an absolute blast! So many funny things that came up just because of the culture differences, but that made the trip even better. When I visit them I am sure the tables will be turned and I will be just as in the dark. Point being, the ignorant, loud and obnoxious live in all countries. Unfortunately some of them travel....lol |

While sitting in the Old Town of Stockholm with my well dressed Swedish and Australian friends we noticed a family of Americans walk by.
The younger children, the teenage children and the parents were all wearing MATHICHNG TYEDYE T SHIRTS.
Just one week before I observed an other American couple wearing matching winter jackets.
There is a method to the madness. A lot of people do that here ( especially people with children), when they are in amusement parks,or any place where its easy to get separated. The bright colored shirts make them easier to pick out in a crowd. I have noticed Asians doing that here also when they are touring in a large group. I doubt they were trying to be impressive, or show offy....lol.as for the couple with the matching jackets, who knows? Some people are just weird that way...lol |
