Heading overseas in September and have been checking out dentistry prices and the clinics in the city that we'll be spending most of our time in (Hanoi).
I've had a few mates get dentistry work done in Thailand and India, but not yet Vietnam.
I'm not overly keen on surgery, but will still require some anaesthetic for one of the procedures. Anyone had any experiences with that sort of thing overseas? |

| I have several friends who have had dental work done over that way, not sure exactly where, but they have the highest praise for the standard of work done. And the cost difference. |

Thanks for the reply.
I've checked out a few places and one in particular looks really good. We have Vietnamese friends in the city, so we'll probably ask them to check it out first as well.
The price difference is incredible! |

That's because we're all trying to keep it quiet!
I don't know if there's a big trade in Vietnam for it - I just go there quite a lot and thought I'd look into it whilst I am there.
I don't go to Thailand anymore, though I have friends who've had their teeth done there. |

| That would be brilliant, mrson, lucky indeed! The bastid across the road from us charged me $1300 for ONE molar to be removed. I had problems with it for weeks. |

| Monkey Pie, you can access good dentists and doktors in most Asian countries through either SOS or Marsh Medical. Insurance is very cheap and you get the best clinics to go to. |

| be VERY wary!!! Ask them about sterilisation proceedures-e.g ensure you see the sterile packet OPENED in front of you!! and be aware that MANY countries have a high incidence of Hepatitis B!!I would prefer to be safe then sorry-and is it really that much cheaper when you add on the price of airfare and accomodation?? |

I live in the Philippines and the quality of dental and medical is just fine.
I recently spent 3 weeks in hospital here and the level of care of the nurses and the quality of the doctors was just as good as in Australia in my opinion. The cost of a private room with ensuite, air con and cable TV was $44 Australian per night.
My wife had a tooth out at the dentist 6 months ago and it cost a little less that $16 Australian.
I also had a friend from Australia that had been quoted over $12,000 in Australia for some major dental work and he ended up getting it done here for less than $3,000. Him and his wife then came and stayed at a resort close to where I live for 2 weeks and including airfares they still came out a couple of thousand in front. |

The only thing that some foreigners might have a problem with is the local food that they serve for meals, there's nothing wrong with it as such but it is different to what Australians are used to eating but in saying that you can just bring in food from outside no problems.
The Philippines also train and export a lot of doctors and nurses and the nurses have the reputation of being the most caring in the world. |

So true tropicalformular! I have had several dental procedures carried out in the Philippines for one-tenth the cost of what I would have paid here in Australia. My dentist here noticed some of the work I had done in the P.I. & commented as to the high quality of same.
My wife (a Filipina) had a rhinoplasty operation (nose job) performed in Thailand - total cost for consultations, operation, medicines was just over $500 AU. Would have cost clost to $4,000 here. The hospital & facilities in which she had the operation were immaculate.
Of course the dental & medical associations here will always caution against travelling to Southeast Asian countries to have procedures carried out - they are protecting their own revenue base.
What they do not reveal is that many of the Asian dentist & doctors do their training overseas - USA, Australia, Germany, etc. |
