Am planning to get an English passport for when I go to Europe next year for work. Previously I've used my Australian passport but people at work believe a English PP is better when working/traveling in the EU.
Does anyone have a constructive opinion or experience with this ? Ta |

I would certainly go for an English Passport for ease of travel through the EU. Hubby has a kiwi one and I have a Brit passport and when were over there it was just so much less trouble.
Hope this helps. |

| There is no such thing as an English Passport. It is British or precisely it is a United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, European Union. Depart OZ and return to OZ on your Australian and travel in Europe on your UK passport. Aussies will need a visa in certain European countries including entry to the UK. |

Yes it did thanks. Never had any problems in the UAE or EU with my Aussie passport but might as well get an English one while I'm at it.
Thanks |

Ah poor Steve. Yet again you prove your total inability to enter an adult discussion. Doesn't surprise me really since you've spent the last 30 odd years bludging of the Aboriginals.
Time you developed a bit of self respect little man |

Unfortunately there is no such thing as a British passport anymore.
It's an EU passport. It is the passport of choice if you have the option, for travelling with ease in the EU
It's the passport of chocie for easier re-entry to OZ |

shir2lou appears to be betraying a right wing political view spreading the propoganda of the Conservatives.
There has been a standardisation of appearance in ECC passports however, they are very much still British passports with all of the requirements laid down by the British Government.
As for the benefit of having one, most people have got it right to say that it will make it easier for you to find work. |

Not worried about getting work as am actually going their for my company. Have been to Europe a few times with work but always on an Aussie passport. Someone mentioned getting a British PP but was just trying to work out of the cost was worth it. |

If you are not looking to work, I wouldn't bother with the second passport. As you say it's another expense and another hassle to go through for little gain.
I already have both, but only becasue the visa in my British paspport lapsed on receiving Australian citizenship. |

i recently enquired about the price of passports. aussie ones.. and was told it was 200 bucks...... hell thats a lot of money.
sure yeh i know it lasts for 10 yrs.....but hey i think thats dreadful i'll have to pay that and go overseas and after that it will not be used again... most likely. I think anybody over 50 should be given options...... 5 yrly or 10?
Or is it just the government just collecting moula??? |

Not sure about aussies needing a visa to enter the UK. I think they do ( I am saying 'they' as I have two passports. I use my British one to enter the UK and my aussie one to come back here)
I think they may well do, as Whitlam caused a stir about this yeras ago and that's how it came about. |

| To work in the UK for any length of time a UK passport is useful as you don't need a work permit or visa. On return to Australia when travelling on a UK passport it would be sensible to get a return entry visa for Australia to avoid complications, or at least have in your passport an indication that you have permanent residency status in Australia. Not an issue if you are returning on an Aussie passport but make sure it is current. |

| Some on these boards say you do need a visa, some say you do not. You really should ring the British Consulate in Canberra, or check with a reputable travel agency, they would know. |

I carry both. UK passport allows you to work anywhere in the EU no visa but must tell them you are there (if for more than a few months it varies). UK passport gets you in to more countries elsewhere without a visa too like Dubai.
Another advantage is you can disappear and the taxman (who will try to track you and force you to pay tax if working in tax free or low taxing nations or declare what you earned while away [none of his bl00dy business]), provided you do not use the Aussie passport, can't track you.
When you do your departure card, if you have to change flights at say Singapore then that is where you are leaving that flight not the final destination. Put the Aussie passport away and use the Pom one from there on. |
