I currently live in Victoria, but am hoping to soon relocate to Tasmania. I'm looking for a country-type town, with plenty of nature surrounding.
Somewhere where there are many job prospects and cheapish housing. I'll be starting fresh, from scratch, and it will pretty much be me, the animals, and whatever I can afford to bring with me.
Look forward to hearing from you all. |

well i have been down here since feb 09 and we settled in sheffield, it is 25mins to devonport.
we left qld to start a new life down here and after a few shaky weeks we are happy to say we love it here and wouldn't go back to qld.
rent down here is very hard to get in country towns and places are the bigger towns we spent $5k just staying in a treat before we found "GOOD" accommodation to rent and motels were about $170 a night for a family but if you are on your own then i think it's about $130 a night.
saw a lot of places to rent on the net but after going to have a look in person we ran most were bloody dumps at $250 upwards.
we got a nice place after 1 month and we brought land at sheffield and now are building.
when we got here we went over to the east side it was tooooo dry for us ST helen was to much of a water front town for us we went to the middle and didn't like it hobart is tooo big and too many one way streets for me and then went to delairne it's way to cold in winter there for me it's down in a hollow came to sheffeild and loved it rolling hills good shops but it's a very touristy place so if you don't like tourist it's not for you.
we when we got here we were very surprise to see house prices were higher then in the town in qld where we came from we have seen prices down a little now but still very high.
work wise well a lot of tradesman that are doing my place are rushed off their feet they said "recession what recession" so i say you might get a job fast down here depends on what you do {trade wise}.
BUT the one thing is if the shops don't care what you want they have to order it in and this for me are the home building things. lol
well hope this has helped, but you really must do your homework first before coming here it will save you money.
we listen to a lot of people on the tassie site on yahoo

casino, my dtr relocated from NSW to Devonport in October last year...she had a job transfer with her company.
I went down there last month for a visit and to see the g/kids...it is a beautiful place and so is Sheffield...lurved all the murals on all the buildings. |

"Somewhere where there are many job prospects and cheapish housing."
If there is plenty of work then the cost of housing will be higher than areas with poor prospects for work.
What sort of work is required is the next question. The Central Coast has a lot of work prospects but then housing cost rises but it is definitely the boom area and time to get in is now. |

| To qualify the previous post, an area such as North Motton should be taken into consideration. |

yes i think sheffield is a good place every year they put on mural fest which painters from all around come in a paint down in a park each year they pant over last year murals.
they are friendly and most go out of their way to help, which i have found.
school is good my girls love the schools but it is hard to get into the medical center there we have found and were blown away when my wife rang another medical center 25 mins away and they told her sorry you are register at sheffield so you have to go there, lol said they just told her this was a Wednesday morning that they will not be seeing anybody else until next week!!!
we put it down to the panic of swine flu that pushed most centers to over flowing.
but so far we love the area around sheffield and we brought land at west kentish which is just rolling hills and green coming from a dry dry place in qld it is the bee's knees lol.
the animals have plenty to eat and no more water shortages because it rains a lot there which will keep water tanks full. |

Nope im not old at all and no not young at all. Just personal stuff i jhave within me. Aniways if only qantas could aloud me to take the walking stick on board but they told me i cant so a nice emplyee inside the plane will guide me to the seat. I just hope they dont waste my time because i head quite alot of dreadfull unhelpfull things about qantas specialy these on a wheely or these who are on a breath machine or even worse.
Tasmania will be the next destination will look into it more videos on youtube to see where il visit. And yes i will be going by myself. better then having everyone who wants to go left and the ather right. when i rather go alone anywhere. Its an educational to go by yourself better then non.
There was a programe reality show about dateingyourself and going to restaurants by yourself.. ever seen it? i almost wnent into that programe show the daily life of a solo soul person as they say. |

Down south is very nice Huon Valley all the towns down that way are great.
You can get properties with land & rainforest type of thing for a fair price.
Huonville, Cygnet, Nicholls Rivulet & surrounding places are very nice. You also might like New Norfolk & Lachlan.
I wouldnt really recomend the Midlands region to live in or some east coast towns.
South & North I recomend to look.
Sheffield area like casino has found is really nice country too.
Its all your personal choice but look first as they can look good on realestate.com but can be in a really isolated area. I see many properties get brought from mainlanders online like a tiny place near me went for a big price which was a rip off. Then the houses get left empty! |
