concern.
In fact, I think that the characters in South Park so accurately reflect the apathy and stupidity of humanity that it is downright frightening to ponder on just how close to reality the show actually is.

This particular episode of South Park titled “Whale *** s” slams the Japanese culture, but it also takes shots at American culture. It smacks down vegans and meat eaters alike, it ridicules Larry King, myself and my crew, unleashes Godzilla on the cowardly whalers, s *** s at the Hiroshima bombing, massacres the Miami Dolphins, firebombs and sinks the Nisshin Maru, kamikazes the Steve Irwin, kills off my crew, wipes out the whalers, mocks television, *** slaps the crew of the Deadliest Catch, and does all this in a mere twenty minutes of way over the top violence, racism, sexism, and every kind of politically correct ism there is in an perverse orgy of slapstick humor supporting a ridiculously silly plotline that these pathetically successful evil geniuses manage to pull off in their particularly nasty minded manner.

In other words- it was frigging great!

And most importantly right there on the side of our ship in big bold cartoon characters was “www.Seashepherd.org” and they actually spelt it right. Now how in hell could I complain about that?

The audience receiving the message of the horrific and illegal slaughter of the whales and dolphins was boosted tremendously, and people who had never heard of Sea Shepherd or even Whale Wars, were introduced to us, and the issue, and that can all be summed up by saying it was one mother of a media success.

Someone told me that they thought it was overly negative that I was depicted and slandered as lying about the whales, about being shot blah, blah, blah… Of course the media culture is one big super lie so that does not bother me. The truth is the truth, but unfortunately the truth does not hold much currency these days. Lies sell and because of this,

sorting out lies from truth has become impossible. Ask any politician or corporation.

Did I lie about being shot by the Japanese? No, but I can’t prove it, and if I can’t prove it then people are free to speculate all they wish. It would have helped if the Australian Federal police had done a forensic analysis of the bullet but they refused to look at it, using the excuse that they did not have jurisdiction. The Dutch where our ship is flagged did not want to see it. The Americans and the Canadians (for which I hold passports) did not want to see it. In the end I dropped it into the hands of William Petersen who plays Gil Grissom on CSI Las Vegas. He looked at it and his “expert” opinion was “yep, it looks like a bullet.” So, that’s good enough for me. Besides I know the truth and that’s all that’s important to me. I could not give a flying fig what anyone else thinks.

So if Stan wishes to call me a liar, then Stan can take a number and join the line of the multitudes who have already done so. Besides in a world where millions of people still believe that global warming is a lie, that Barack Obama does not have a birth certificate, and world leaders swear they have personal conversations with God, being called a liar carries very little weight. When you think of it, we live in a culture of lies and one person’s truth is simply another person’s lie. Sarah Palin just wrote a book full of lies and it’s a national best seller.

Are we “vegan pussies” pretending to be pirates, as the show says? It was the Japanese and Norwegians who first called us pirates, not us, but I’d rather be depicted as a “vegan *** ” than a deranged killer. It’s easy for Captain Stan to kill off the whalers in fantasyland but for those of us caught up in reality, we have to have a different set of rules and our first concern is that no one gets hurt and the second is that we stay out of jail. Unlike Stan and the boys, we can’t write our way out of t ...

the hoosegow!
Our campaigns to the Southern Ocean have been and are being effective. We have managed to cut kill quotas nearly in half, and we have prevented the taking of 90% of the Fin whale quota. We have cost the Japanese whaling fleet loss profits for three years running and we have publicized the illegal slaughter of whales and dolphins by Japanese whalers globally and much to the embarrassment of the Japanese government. We know what we’ve achieved and with that knowledge we can sit back and laugh at ourselves and at the whalers and enjoy the parody.

Whale Wars has made us stronger, and as I predicted before the airing of South Park, Stan’s temporary fantasy takeover of my ship has brought us even more support.

As we prepare to return to the Southern Ocean for the sixth campaign to oppose the Japanese whalers, we have made sure to pack a DVD of South Park for the amusement of the crew and I’m thinking we should catapult a few copies onto the deck of the Japanese whaling boats to lower their morale.

I can’t help thinking just how funny it is that Dutch board member Alex Cornelissen, who will be accompanying me on this next campaign, with a sailors toque on his head, looks a little like Captain Stan from South Park. Maybe things will get a little more lively, who knows, we’ll have to wait and see.

That bloody harpoon gave my big head a big headache, but like Kenny, I'm back and ready to rock and roll back on down to the Southern Ocean to toss butter bombs and more at those funny but deadly sushi-eating whale killers on the whaling ships.

So folks, stay tuned for Season Three of Whale Wars on Animal Planet and Discovery.

Love any reports ;if anyone visits the Steve Irwin.
I believe we have WA crew aboard.

like your deication leo.....I met with alex C,the capt of the steve irwin ,before they left here in vico,to go to freo...
looks like a really well organised campaign this year...and some nasty surprises for those illegal whalers.....
as for our current govt's position.....well garret the parrot is as hated as the whalers...the amount of red tape they have had to go thru is sooooo much more than the liberal govt made them....obviously garret is pro greenpeace...which seems to be anti-SS......
and as far as I am concerned....the japanese whalers are not doing scientific work....so therefore they are illegally whaling for comercial purposes...in a whale sanctuary,in australian territorial waters!
So andre....the real question about legality is..."are the japanese whaling for science or for money?

The International Maritime Bureau defines piracy as "the act of boarding any vessel with an intent to commit theft or any other crime, and with an intent or capacity to use force in furtherance of that act".

So, the mere act of boarding without permission is not piracy.

"So, the mere act of boarding without permission is not piracy."

Actually boarding a vessel that doesn't respond to radio communications is in fact required by maritime law....you have to assertain that the radio IS working and that there is no adverse conditions existing on the vessel...

thanks mcsurf for your up close and personal observation; as I am not in a position to get so close ;so is great to hear from someone who can.

I believe they have a lot of support in WA-especially Fremantle; who have just elected the first State Greens MP for the lower house.
Used to be a safe Labor seat!

Hope they get a lot of encouragement there; before they head off to the colder and more dangerous climes,
Wonderful,brave and dedicated souls ;all.

Garret makes me sick-and to think he was the only one of my elder sons 'hereos',who was still alive!
He would be so disappointed in him now-as are so many others.
Especially those, who feel they were conned into voting for him ,on the empty promises he made and the assurance Paul Watson gave ;that he would be a great support to stop whaling!
Paul feels he was betrayed by Garrett too!
As well, he should!

He could have been a legend-as it is; he is despised as a hypocrite and next election he will fade with a whimper and leave a bad smell behind.
Cant be gone soon enough for me!

Everytime I hear his plattitudes, I feel nauseous -he has not done one real thing for the environment since elected-and after hearing him condemn Paul Watson and state catagorically; 'that there was no proof , that even one whale had been saved;' I wondered if he was being paid by the Japanese-or was just bone ignorant!

Reminded me of what Joan Biaz said about Dylan-who wrote and sang so many protest songs, with such conviction.

"While Bob was singing about it-I was out there doing it.!"

And she still is; to this day-got arrested on a picket line last year. A brave, committed woman-like all those who serve on the Sea Shepherd.

Actually; I think Garrett is just -PRO Garrett!

Green Peace lost so many supporters last year ;after thier decision not to go to the Antarctic-thier website was full of comments from donors ,who felt cheated ;after already donating but said they would switch and support Sea Shepherd now!

Japan whaling fleet leaves for AntarcticBy Frank Zeller, AAP November 19, 2009, 3:05 pm

Japanese whaling ships left port on Thursday for Antarctic waters for their annual hunt of the ocean giants, Greenpeace said, setting the stage for high-seas confrontations with anti-whaling activists.

The factory ship Nisshin Maru and the smaller Yushin Maru 2 and 3 set sail from western Innoshima port while the Shonan Maru left eastern Shiogama harbour for their planned five-month voyage, said the environmental activist group.

Japan kills hundreds of whales a year in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary by using a loophole in a 1986 international moratorium on commercial whaling that allows the sea mammals to be hunted for lethal "research".

Anti-whaling nations led by Australia and New Zealand and environmental groups including Greenpeace have long attacked Japan for its annual whaling expeditions, criticising them as cruel and unnecessary.

Japan, which says whaling is part of its culture, makes no secret of the fact that whale meat ends up on its dinner tables.

Japan's fisheries agency declined to confirm the ships' departure, citing security reasons, and urged anti-whaling activists to refrain from violence.

"We don't say you shouldn't campaign against whaling, but there is a strict line between peaceful campaigns and violence," said Shigeki Takaya, a fisheries agency official in charge of whaling.

Militant activist group the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society has harassed the whalers in recent years, moving their own ships and inflatable boats between the harpoon ships and the sea mammals.

Last year their ship the Steve Irwin collided with a whaling ship. Activists were also accused of hurling stink bombs and rancid butter at the whalers, who allegedly deployed ear-piercing sonic weapons against them.

During their five-month hunt last season, the six Japanese ships caught 679 minke whales and one fin whale - well below the fleet's planned haul of between 765 and 935 whales, Japan's fisheries agency said.

The captain of the Steve Irwin, Canadian Paul Watson, has vowed to "be their ongoing nightmare every year until they stop their horrific and unlawful slaughter of the great whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary".

This year the activists say they also plan to deploy a super-fast, space-age powerboat, the Ady Gil, formerly known as Earthrace, which jetted round the world in just under 61 days last year, a new record.

The tri-hulled, kevlar-and-carbon vessel, which can manage speeds up to 93km/h, will chase the harpoon boats during their annual hunt in the icy seas south of Australia.

"The Ady Gil will be our interceptor. It will be able to latch on to a harpoon boat and prevent it killing any whales," said Watson. "It should be able to run rings around them."

Watson said the boat, bankrolled to the tune of $US1 million ($A1.08 million) by Hollywood businessman Ady Gil, will accompany the Steve Irwin during its three-month campaign from early December.

Norway and Iceland are the only other nations that hunt whales in open defiance of a 1986 IWC moratorium on commercial whaling.

Japan agreed in 2007 to suspend plans to expand its hunt to include humpback whales, which are popular with Australian whale-watchers.

A new Japanese centre-left government which took power in mid-September has said it has no plans to change Japan's position on whaling.

Greenpeace has voiced hope that moves to cut government waste will slash the budget of Japan's Overseas Fisheries Cooperation Fund, which in turn finances the whaling body, the Institute for Cetacean Research.

The environmental group has lodged a submission recommending that the whaling program be cut, labelling it corruption-ridden and a waste of Y795 million ($A9.56 million)

in government subsidies this year.

"Japanese taxpayers' money is being squandered on life-support for a whaling program that produces virtually nothing of value," said Jun Hoshikawa, executive director of Greenpeace Japan.

"With well over 9,000 minke whales killed in 22 years and no useful data produced, Japan's so-called research' in the Antarctic is an international embarrassment."

'
a strict line between peaceful campaigns and violence??!!'

One would think firing exploding harpoons into defencelss animals; is somewhat violent!

Japan says whaling is part of its culture-a very minute part of tradition for a small coastal community; who went to sea in wooden boats.
It has only been a larger part of its culture since the Allies suggested it make up a post war shortfall of meat by whaling!

It has been more part of other nation's culture than the Japanese-but these cultures have now ceased to whale-apart from Norway and Iceland-to preserve dwindling and endangered numbers.

Go-the Andy Gil-run rings around them and thier false research.

Shame Garret Shame!Lying two faced hypocrite.
