A government, for protecting business only, is but a carcass, and soon falls by its own corruption and decay Amos Bronson Alcott

It is often said that men are ruled by their imaginations; but it would be truer to say they are governed by the weakness of their imaginations. - Walter Bagehot

I would put australia as more of an Elected dictatorship. Especially in the state political arena. Queensland is well known for this (thanks to not having an upper house)

Re:is Australia still a Democracy Y/N Reply to this message
Australia is just about as free as it is possible to get... I can't think of too many other countries on earth where you'll find more robust democracy.

Democracy is not about consulting the general population on every policy decision. Nothing would ever get decided, and nothing would ever get done.

You vote for the team you want to run the country and then you get to wear their decisions for the next 3-4 years. If you're lucky, they keep more promises than they break.

Of course, voting in 2 party politics is like deciding between a punch to the belly or the head. But that's politicians for you.

Our system of Government is thinly managed debauchery and a welfare state for latte` sipping 'breeds'.

That doesnt mean that we arent entitled to proper representation and performance from our employees.

This representation has almost disappeared completely.

Thats not really true. We are far from perfect thats true, but we are a lot further away from dictatorship. And we are probably close to the most stable democracy on the planet.

Who here can name a country that has a better democratic system than Australia? If so, what makes it better?
