Not a top story today but it has and will be.
Pitbull attacks on people is , to me, up there with interest rate rises..
both hidden till it effects you.
Now I'm more FOR interest rate rises than people allowed to own pitbulls. Make them illegal. or breed them out.
Please.
Watch one on the weekend . Yes the owners had him on a lead but he was in the playground barking madly whilst on it and little kids were scared. To scared to ride the swings. Worse part , the owners thought nothing of it and even laughed.
The question is, Do pitbull owners think they need the protection of these dogs because they have an inferior complex ?
other wise, why have 'em.... |

yes. they do.
Funny that supposed 'tough guys' have 'tough dogs'....pitbulls, rotties etc. The idea of having a dog, to me, is that YOU look after IT, not the other way around.
So...why do these 'tough guys' need protecting? |

pitbulls, one of the most stupid, ball headed, mongrel bred creatures ever called a dog
rotties are fat seals with health problems after couple years
give me dobermann any day or alsation although many alsation have been bred into bow legged cowards |

Good question, right up there with 'why are drunk out of their tiny mind thugs only brave when they have a dozen of their equally mindless cohorts in close proximity', or 'why are cops invariably ex-schoolyard bullies'. |

| Animal shelters in the United States euthanized approximately 1.7 million dogs in 2008; approximately 980,000, or 58 percent of these were pit bull-type dogs. |

I think you might be confused with the story about people choosing dogs that bear a striking facial resemblance to their owners |

Its definitely fair to ask why any sentient being would aspire to ownership of such a beast |

| Pit-bulls are lovely dogs, when trained properly, BUT some of their owners leave a LOT to be desired in the intelligence stakes. |

'fraid not, marmite exhibits unmistakable signs of sentience whereas pit-bulls have obviously evolved sans any discernable mental capacity whatever. |

I'll go as far as to state that pit-bull owners were out of town with their mindless beasts when the brains were handed out. |

I wasn't, neither was my dog. The dogs are NOT at fault here, NEITHER are RESPONSIBLE owners.
I'd happily own another (and to hell with any 'ban'). |

I seem to recall a number of instances where supposedly 'peaceful pleasant' pit-bulls have turned on their owners with decidedly un-pretty results. The desire to own one of these semi-dormant canine volcanoes must surely be questionable at best. Why indeed would anyone take the risk when there are countless alternative breeds without anything like the well deserved stigma these beasts enjoy ?? |

| I have had a few different dogs over the last 13 years longest was a red heeler, I now have a ridgeback x pitbull and she is the most placid sooky dog you could ever imagine but that doesnt mean that I would leave her alone with a child so as far as im concerned its the owners not the breed oh and on another note I am in noway of the belief that I am tough for having this kind of dog as you do not know the circumstances for me getting her. |

I disagree in principle with any unnecessary government or bureaucratic meddling in our lives, but unfortunately we as a race have demonstrated out inability to self-regulate our affairs. Animals with extremely chequered history (a la pit bulls) are certainly of concern. Sure they might 'appear' safe to well meaning owners but history tells a different story. Furthermore, even the most devoted owner would admit that the breed can be a fearsome beast in the wrong circumstances. |

Thats OK as far as it goes, however you can hardly fail to be aware how unbelievably obsessed society is with children. As we've seen in the recent past, there have been several instances where pit bulls have demonstrated just how dangerous they can be. What will be your response when your pet savages either your children / relatives, or worse still, some poor unfortunate yard ape ?? |
