Michael Jackson's father, who had an uneasy relationship with the superstar, has angered fans by making a commercial plug at his first appearance since his son's death.
Joe Jackson, the 79-year-old patriarch of the musical clan, made a surprise showing on the red carpet at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) awards, which had transformed into a remembrance for the pioneering King of Pop.
During a live interview on CNN television, Jackson introduced an unidentified man who appeared to be a business partner, saying he wanted to make "a real good statement".
"Marshall and I have - we own a record company. Talking about Blu-ray technology. That's the next step," Jackson said.
The blogosphere was instantly buzzing with outrage.
Warren Ballentine, an African-American motivational speaker and radio show host, said that he was flooded with angry messages over Jackson's comments.
"Joe Jackson and his lack of sensitivity and respect disgusts me," said one posting on Jezebel, a blog geared toward women.
Another person wrote on Jezebel that Joe Jackson's behaviour was "almost too ghastly to consider: a man seems pursued pretty much to the grave by the demons his father planted in him, and even in death the (expletive) ghoul is still hustling his son's corpse."
Jackson, a steelworker in the industrial city of Gary, Indiana, reared his nine children into musical sensations starting from the Jackson 5 to the phenomenal careers of Michael Jackson and his younger sister Janet Jackson.
Michael Jackson later said that his father would beat him when he missed a note and emotionally humiliate him, contributing to the future star's psychological fragility but also planting in him the will to succeed.
Joe Jackson has acknowledged he would whip his children but denied it was abuse. |

I think many people miss the relevance Michael's Neverland ranch and what his affinity with Peter Pan; had on his life.
I do not believe Michael was actually a sexual human being at all.
I think ;as he told an interviewer-he believed; he WAS Peter Pan.
He spent an aweful lot on cosmetic surgery to look like him and keep a boyish figure.
I dont believe he was hetero , pedo or gay-he was actually fey.
It was very obvious none of the children were gentically his but they fitted with his Peter Pan belief; if I remember the story .
I personally dont believe he had any sexual relatioship with anyone.Wives included.
Ever hear stories from ANY groupies?
In his three children-he had the ultimate expression of his life as Peter pan.
There was his 'Wendy and Michael' and than the smallest-'John'.
The ranch was his version of Neverland-which was a haven for 'the lost boys'.Michael used his ranch as a happy place for children who were disadvantaged.
All his personas on his albums were sheer theatre-where he could escape. They were play acting.
This was his refuge from a world he really never had a chance to be part of or understand; having been plucked from the reality of childhood,at about 8 years of age.
Much of his mentality was still fixed there ,trying to replace a lost childhood and give that dream to other children.He revelled in seeing the joy they got from the things he had provided for them and being a part of a childhood that he had missed out on .
He was a gentle soul; who found it difficult to grasp the deviousness of the thinking ,of those who lived beyond his walls and projected their own perverted thoughts onto him.Because they could not grasp his reality-it being different to thier own.
I would far prefer the innocence of Michael ;than that devious slime who interviewed and betrayed him and Princess Di-he made my skin crawl.
I am saddend by his death at this time-so undeserved.
I hope his children who he loved so-do not suffer. |

Peace .. i agree with much of what you're saying, especially regarding MJ's lack of sexual sophistication and 'desire' to remain childlike .... but ...
... he was NOT a child. He was a grown man.
While i have compassion for the abuse he reportedly suffered whilst still a child and am a fierce believer that children should be alllowed to be children for every single second they can manage it ... he wasn't a child for most of his life.
The fact that he USED children as a vehicle to live vicariously through in his adult years AND only found acceptance in doing so by virtue of his wealth appalls me.
He named all 3 of 'his' children after him. Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr; Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince Michael Jackson II (who he dangled off a balcony to satiate a hungry mob).
He named them after himself .. yet mutilated his own 'self' through countless surgeries .. to the point of being frightening to behold.
I cannot see for the life of me how this is an example of sound parenting. That is .. we as parents give birth to other human beings to give THEM life .. not to be extensions of our own.
Ordinarily, i'd make no comment about the 'procurement' of these poor kids .. adoption and surrogacy are just fine with me .. but in this case, i hold issue. These children were 'bought', named with his name and (seemingly) used as characters in a perpetual play, acted out to avoid reality at all costs.
This is their legacy.
I agree Peace .. i think (from all reports and observation) that MJ was asexual. I don't think he was a paedophile. I DO think he was inappropriate with children though.
The fact that he cited his 'child-like innocence' as a defense against any possible criticism regarding his association with children is in itself alarming .. considering his age. He had as much responsibility as the rest of us to be accountable.
Anyone with less money would have the CPS all over them for his behaviour. |

hi cyber- actually i can agree with most of what you are saying-and his reasoning for his actions; was probably wrogn in a lot of respects but unfortunately; as in all society-i find there are many people who seem to have children for their own reaons-not the childrens.
I have seen these children and so far; they do not look like they have suffered-maybe its because of the extended family around them-I guess only time will tell!
I dont beleive what Micheal has done with them ;was out of maliscousness tho ;-which seems to be part of his fathers charachter; as evidenced by him taking adavantage -before his own son is buried; to still use him for financial gain.
Wrong ;in many ways of society; as some of Michaels actions may be-I dont think any were malicious and as he said; he maybe should not have shown his baby to the fans but it was only seconds and he held him so tight-not throwing him in the air; as he ahd seen other parents do.
All a matter of degrees I guess-in the way we judge others;usually thru the prism of personal experience.
As to the platic surgery-I think that was part of his attempt to remain as Peter Pan-not really a 'white' fetish-and also a dissatisfaction with self and then it can become addictive and he also seems to have been OCD-which may have contributed to a lot of his personal makeup.
But also what gave him the drive to do so much of what he did to perfection in his creative side.
And he did say many times-he NEVER actually slept in the bed with the boys-he slept on the floor and they slept in the bed. |

Seems almost everyone is either dedicated to the cause of sanctifying him or ridiculing him.
Little in the way of actual translation into actuality either way.
Thing is .. he was a seminal musical artist. A huge inspiration to many .. an unquestionable talent.
Also, he was an utter wingnut.
It is possible to be BOTH. To polarise the argument is very, very silly.
I'm gonna take it one step further and say that MJ stood very firmly by his sincere love for children and the state of being a child.
Let us now take the example of his own tragic and troubled life as a lesson in how to be .. and how to NOT be.
Both are equally important. |
