Yes,she is 11yrs old, under Australian law she is under the guardianship of her parents until the age of 16yr old.
Her parents have put her in a position they should not have .... Remember the pictures were taken when she was 6yrs old, if they were that artistic why weren't they brought out 5 yrs ago ?? her opinions are those of her parents, remember these photographs were brought out in protest for Mr Henson, not because they thought they were art as the mother has stated with her own mouth. |

Like me, I presume you've actually seen the picture. I think it is boring, unnecessarily controversial and unncessary. but it is neither erotic, pornographic or illegal. The girl didnt mind and still doesnt. The fuss is, as usual, a diversino from the real issues. |

Longweekend, Only what was in the papers & on the News they were brought out in protest for Mr Hensons nude pictures, as the mother stated, it's called milking the cash cow & I think we will see some new laws in the not to distant future. Personally would you let you child be seen like that, personally I wouldn't.
That Magazine will lose its goverment funding because of those pictures. |

There wont be any new laws because law is too blunt an instrument. The child was not exposed sexually. how can you ban nude child photos without banning or effectively banning parental photos as well? That's why there wont be any new laws. and just like henson, this will turn out to be nothing. |

Photo Exhibitions at the Art Gallery of NSW
February 14, 2008: Two free exhibitions of photography are on display at the Art Gallery of NSW this month.
Charles Bayliss: Landscape Photographer, which opened on 9 February, presents two substantial portfolios of pictures documenting aspects of pastoral life and landscape along the Darling River and Riverina districts in the late 1880s. Bayliss used a Mammoth plate camera, which recorded extra-large glass negatives (up to 30 x 40 inches in size). Photographers who used these cameras worked under difficult conditions, travelling with portable darkrooms, supplies of chemicals ill adapted to variable weather conditions and fragile glass plates. Despite these drawbacks, they produced many memorable images that preserve a valuable record of the past. This exhibition will be on display until 25 May.
Michael Riley: sights unseen opens on 22 February and presents one of the most significant exhibitions of Indigenous art. This major retrospective of one of the country's leading Indigenous contemporary artists was first shown at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra in late 2006. The exhibition chronicles a period of intense cultural development and achievement and presents many images previously unseen in the public domain. It will be on display until 27 April.

Revulsion is my initial reaction to this type of material but if we give this a bit more thought.
1. Will this sort of stuff create pedophiles? - Doubt it.
2. Will this sort of stuff ad to any significant degree the porn pedophiles go for - Don`t think so.
3. Could this sh1t endanger a child ? - Can`t see how.
Repulsive as this sort of material is, I think we have to be careful that we don`t react in a way that erodes more freedom from the lives of innocent people. |

I think that people have to be very careful about who views the so-called artwork. This debate really depends on each person's take/interpretation/use of the photos. I might see the photo as art, another person might see it as pornography.
The issue has to be defined. Does this girl truly believe that there is nothing wrong with the photo? Apparently yes. So, would she be comfortable with a paedophile viewing it??
Perhaps the issue is how old is old enough for nude photography..? Or how old is old enough for a child to understand what they are doing when they allow themselves to be photographed nude..?
Perhaps the issue is nothing to do with 'art' or 'pornography' but intention when creating art or taking photographs for art..? |

Aussie .... Why put it out there, as the parents stated it was done in protest for Bill Henson... Newcastle art gallery brought some of his works many years ago.... Do you know where they are being kept, in the back of the cupboard where they belong. watch the interview on yahoo main page, the girl herself could not answer the questions.
As a parent you are s'pose to look after your childs best interests....Have They, I don't think so.
And to your questions....Who Knows ???

Just caught the clip on yahoo 7 with this tool of a supposed free thinking dad and his precocious (now 11 year old) daughter who finds the Prime Ministers comments offensive.
So I guess we should all be guided by the thoughts of 11 year olds with their influenced opinions from parents that wish to push them quickly past childhood into smart a-r-s-e adults.
These photos that flashed up on 60 minutes last night may not be the leg spread gynaecological ones but are certainly done like the typical lead in adult poses depicted in publications such as Playboy or Penthouse. Not as a non influenced child of six would naturally do unless imitating an adult.
Those in favour of this so called art are the same that tout the spool that art should shock.
This father felt the human body and nature shouldnt be suppressed as it causes a lot of hang-ups so I guess hed go along with fornicating and pooing out in the open as well.
Which makes me remember a doco I saw on SBS or the ABC about two gay guys that had their own art exhibition in New York where their so called paintings where done in their own excrement.
They actually referred to it as s-h-i-t art and I would say they were absolutely correct.
I hope the government pulls any grants that support nonsense claiming art. |
