| My opinion is that artists are catching on to what will gain them publicity the quickest. Too bad they need to use images of small children to do it, in today's climate, they are well aware it will cause controversy. Sickening really, like a good percentage of today's society's thinking. |

Hmmm, there could be a little truth there, I always hope not, though, I work with this age group, generally, their parents choose their clothes. Although I have heard an eight year old quite freely describing sexual activities and gender issues.
It really does depend upon their surroundings as to how they act, dress etc. |

If this kind of thinking did not exist, the picture would not have raised an eyebrow. We subscribe to Art Monthly at work, and nobody as much as mentioned this month's cover. It probably would have gone unnoticed pretty much if the press and the PM hadn't decided to make a new crusade out of it.
The visual and plastic arts aren't really my area of expertise, so I can't really comment on the painting with a great deal of authority, but, like Henson's photos, I don't see what all the fuss is about. Nudes in art, of any age, are nothing new.
I don't see how the picture can be seen as "sexual" by any stretch of the imagination. If you are the type that finds this kind of thing sexual, you would probably find K-Mart and Target catalogues more so. So the "paedophile-enabler" argument really doesn't hold a lot of water

What people fail to realise is this ... paedophiles will access ANYTHING titivating to their psychosis. You might not view this portrait as p0rn0graphic ... but how do you know that the Dennis Fergusons of this world are of your mindset?
The fact that they are paedophiles, and you aren't, should be a clear indication that their minds DON'T operate like most peoples'. Nor do they have a conscience, if they can willingly interfere with a child and think it's ok to do so.
My personal feelings about this piece of work aren't relevant to this ... but I do wish people would stop and think before publishing such things in such a widespread manner.

And, short of dressing children in sheets, there is no way possible to remove any possible titillation that paedophiles may derive.
Should we ban trips to the beach? School swimming carnivals?
Do people now have to stop and think; "Will this outfit/picture/commercial /artwork/catalogue be a turn-on for a paedophile", every time children are involved???
As you rightly said, they don't think like us, why should we be forced to think like them? |

If we DON'T learn to think like them, more and more of our children are going to end up victimised.
I'm not advocating extremism. What I am advocating is allowing our children to have the kind of childhood we enjoyed ... one where they are allowed to be innocent, to be the child they are supposed to be instead of being forced to grow up far too quickly by parents whose only motivation is monetary, rather than parental concern for the well-being of the child entrusted to their care.

I'm not sure what's best to be honest. I would like to know if pheadfiliar had existed in native countries and islands in the past where clothing wasn't worn at all and it was no big deal? I would also like to know if women were raped in these kinds of environments?
Or has clothing and all the do's and don't that go with it made what's underneath more desirable to know by people with this sort of addiction? Has the addiction come about or grown due to all the 'teasing' that goes on with clothing (such as showing off bits and peices like dangling carrotts in front of rabbits and making them hungrier. I don't know, but I have a gut feeling all thisd fuss and publicity is possibly stirring up minds in the worst possible ways. Minds that may not have had such thoughts otherwise.
Having said all that, I don't think it's right to use children this way commercially regardless. But when I was a kid lots of us kids ran around naked. It was no big deal to go to a swimming spot and find kids swimming around naked. I was never approached by peadafiles and I can't recall any of my friends having this sort of experience or fear. I think the modern world has gone nuts in this respect as it has in everything else. And that's sad for all of us.... |

| I am not sure what type of Mother would take these photos for a wide viewing audience. I believe that the sick people that pray on the inocense of young have always been around. It just wasn't publicised 50 plus years ago as it is now. And I do not beleive it matters what you are wearing, otherwise why do 85 year old Grandmothers get raped, and 6 year old children. I also do not understand how looking at naked children can be called art........ Cute maybe in your own family album when they are 12 months old running around without a nappy, but certainly not for the whole nation to see. How does that young girl feel, I sure know how my chldren would feel if it was a snap of them. I hope their funding is taken away, it would be better used elsewhere. |
